Courtyard, I love you!
People vote for it because it’s fast and to see the reaction of people when it actually ends up getting picked ^^
At least that is what I gathered last night hanging out in the mists hearing other people talk about it.
Have to admit, some of the reactions people have when they end up in it are priceless, way more than with Skyhammer.

While a small part of your point might be right, I do not think ppl just pick a map to see reactions, though.. not in Ranked Arena that is..

no, not really, people pick them because they like it, mostly.
I like the map when I’m with a group of friends doing a custom match.
I like the map when I’m running a build that’s designed for a giant face mash deathmatch on a tiny map.
I don’t like the map when I’m trying to queue for a conquest game.
I don’t like the map when I’m running a build that’s suited for every other sPvP map in the game.
why this game have to be only a conquest game ? is it written in the Bible ?

SOME ppl are not the majority, making this arguement invalid to my original post, since my post was about MAJORITY of players. Not SOME
I definitely agree. I enjoy courtyard because it encourages people to try new things. When your no longer confined to a point your priority when you check your build changes. Since I was actually able to kite properly on my necro I swapped out some of my defensive traits that I normally HAD to have to avoid being a ping pong ball on a point and went for something that let me help the others on my team take less damage.

sure, one or two in 10 might be trolling, but the majority of the people in general vote because they like it.
tip of the day : there are less troll then you think, even in hotjoin 1v1 server. you find 1-2 troll out of 10+ people, most of the time.

It´s not the map or deathmatch-system…it´s the ridicoulus snowballing and spawn-camping/farm almost every time i get this map. I won Matches 500-0, and lost Matches like this. Never had a close one. Yeah i know regroup… blablabla. I will give it a try, maybe in a few weeks/months/years they will improve the hole thing.
But in the current state it´s no fun for me

I like the map and partly because it’s new. Hoping anet would’ve introduced new maps and a variety of them. I do think tho that we should have a solo 1/1 type que and some solo maps along these lines of courtyard.
People will select maps due to their easiness as well as to tick others off. Just like how players will que up and purposely not accept and continuously reque. Expected in the internet.
Two times I got courtyard today – once because we had the choice between Courtyard, Skyhammer and Spirit Watch, and apparently people hate the latter more than Courtyard, and the second time because 4 of the enemy team voted for the map…
It was on both occasions where my team (first four and a pug, second time a whole team) managed to overtake the enemy with pure coordination…
The first time was a complete stomp from our side – granted, we are not shy of doing small scaled WvWvW roaming, so even with a pug, just four people coordinating on a minor level helps a lot…
The second time was actually really close, as we were about to be shut down… Luckily,
some kiting and well coordinated skirmishes led to our victory at the end of an enjoyable experience
From what I can tell though, the rules can use a bit of a rework (respawn timers etc) and it needs to be bigger… There needs to be more room for the teams to leave their spawn, because it is really to be overtaken one by one…

Implying that there wouldn’t be meta stuff in TDM. And it’s not like you get to try out new stuff. Most of the builds which are rly strong there are pretty much slight variations of WvW/GvG meta builds that have been arround for months.
I kinda like courtyard as well but it should never be in one queue with conquest maps especially not if it’s not possible to switch classes/builds which they want to make a thing at some point.
well if my teammates would agree to a regroup or kiting/re-positioning it would be a blast but this might not hold for long because the map is still new and the adapting process takes a while

I love court yard too.
However, I think it’s better if we change it to annihilation, which means after the last team member is killed, it changes to next round and every body respawn. Each won round gives your team 200 point (essentially, it’s best of 5)

I only played it with full team so far and fun was ok, but if i imagine to be on those random groups we´ve fought(and i usually play solo a lot), i cant believe its any fun until poeple learn to regroup and zerk in there.
We won all matches like 500-0 just because they´ve been outnumbered in any situation. 1 or 2 first kills and you´ve won to those randoms. Everybody respawning seems to think like “Oh, im gonna run to help those 3 half deads left of us on the other side of the map”, but when they arrive 2 others already died. Instead of waiting for them to respawn.
Well, this will not happen in high ranked matches, but its what i´ve experienced there so far(team of us have been in mid class ranking): Completly one sided matches.
I know, people will learn and adept to this, but how does a match of better players will look like on courtyard? 1-2 quick kills for 1 team and the rest of the dieing team can only try to kite them till regroup. But at least 1 more will die while kiting, forcing the respawning ones to wait for respawns of the later died, so they need to stay in base. While the other team waits in front of their base for respawn or zerkhunts the left one or two…
I simply can´t imagine this to be any exciting at all, and in my opinion, there needs to be some tactical component like conquest in this game, to force teams to split.
One of the things i have an issue with is people not even realising They dont have to sit in the middle and let the murder ball roll over them. A balanced build can kite a ball just as well as a single person. In my last courtyard we had 3 rangers and two condi necros. You think we sat in the middle?
We had 2 condi rangers laying traps and pelting a given target. They adjusted there builds so they had piercing and just had constant condis on one person. Sure it got cleansed by the ball but it didnt really matter. The condi necros kept pelting and slowing down the entire ball did a good job of keeping poison up with the help of hte condi rangers. I was playing a cleric BM ranger so I just let my drake sit in the murderball and start tailswiping the entire grp for 7k bursts. Drakes are AWESOME for killing groups like these. It hink if the other two rangers had also been using htem it would be easy. WE just kited around the edge of hte map and forced htem to split there ball up. Then it became a series of 2v3 and 3v2s.
People only die to the murder ball because they arent bright enough to realize you dont have to sit there and slam into it over and over again. Spread out and cover eachothers backs and you force them to split up. Then its actually up to skill and not who can spam cool downs the hardest.
I don’t mind courtyard. what I mind is scrubs/trolls ragequitting when it pops, or when they die once or twice. this, like other maps, sucks when youre outnumbered

Kinda makes me wish theyd turned on dishonor from the beggining. I get why they waited but still >.<.
There is only one reason courtyard is currently creating so many tears
That one player we all know who they are
-Doesn’t speak in chat
-As soon as he respawns he runs out the base and gets farmed
All 5 players have to be on the same page for this type of deathmatch to work
Either way I like it when I play with competent players
Soloq addicts/non-premade teams will hate courtyard because they have no idea how to play it,they want quick jills while TDM encourages survival style just give them 2 years they will adapt if they don’t want to carry a bad reputation. A team prepared for it is fine got to remember soloquers it’s not 1v1 team play will always win vs duel lovers . I just feel like they implemented the team aspect the hard way.
Courtyard is fun as long your team knows what to do not just you(which most soloquers teams don’t know how) if the opposite team doesn’t you will win. Learn and adapt if you even think you’re decent and embrace the team balance.
Did I forgot to mention why premade doesn’t have those issues? Hint: they don’t try to dive blind in the traffic.

Alot of people are seeing one way to play TDM and they repeatedly try to emulate it to mixed results. The sooner they realise they dont have to mindlessly die over and over agian the sooner they try new things and find ways to break the current “strategy”. Its not even that complex. Just wish peoples inability to adjust wasnt giving the map a bad name.

I solo q’d into CY 4-5 time yesterday and lost none. Just depends what team you get and if someone explains them in teamchat they need to rgrp etc.
In a few months, this will just be casual and ppl will like this. It’s just ebcause most aren’t used for Small Scale teamfights and other ppl are (WvW roaming) as myself.
That alone gives a huge advantage when it comes to approaching an enemy team

They changed the call target now. If you are not in team prior to que then u cannot see call target sadly. This gives a huge advantage to pre made teams. Courtyard needs call target to work again the way it used to for solos not just teams
1. your data is pulled out of certain unreliable place, from all games i did so far majority do not pick courtyard: maybe 1-3 ppl but that is
2. death match idea may be not so bad map itself is pretty annoying tho, half of the time you can’t see crap due to bad camera + walls
3. like in wvw it comes down to which team has more guards and rezzers in generall zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
4. once again promotes massive aoe spam just like conquest (maybe issue is with the way aoe works in this guy tbh)

I cannot stand Courtyard…its like ONE giant ZERG…so unnecessary and soo NOT GUILD WARS. Make this stupid arena a 2v2 match …..then it will be saved…..I would rather play Raid on Carpricorn over and over than get into this stupid arena…..there is no point to it its a giant manslaughter all pint up in corners..its not big enough for a full team and its definitely NOT fun. please make our pvp more challenging and enjoyable like AB in GW1……people r angry….we want 2v2 or 3v3 1v1 arenas with real rewards.!!!!!!!
Nah, when you have a team comp for conquest and you get Cortyard, you feel a somehow cheated. Ten people in the middle of the map is just a mess. Also

Now that people have stopped throwing htemselves into the murder ball mindlessly its been pretty good. Ive actually got a few matches without either team even trying to MAKE a zerglike group in the center. There acting more like a roaming group. contracting and scattering as necessary.
The players that have actually adjusted all seem to enjoy the map.
I personally love courtyard, hope to see more maps like it in the future.
I woudn’t mind if it was 3v3 or even 2v2 but as a ranked map it has a lot of shortcomings.
In conquest, you can get around being completely outcomped in a team fight with a few sneaky decaps, this isn’t possible in CY where you’re always in a team fight.
Opponents have 1 AH guardian and 1 staff ele both with mercy runes, supporting 3 dps vs you’re pug? Out of luck, enjoy that 500 to 20 match lol.

I love TDM style matches, but not much of a fan of other players in courtyard so far. It feels just like it did in hot-joins, you tend to always get that one kitten that wants it over ASAP and just runs in to the other team to give them free kills. You can tell who that one is by checking scores, they tend to have between 0 and 15 points depending on if they hit anyone during the first team fight.
I don’t vote the map even though I like it because I don’t want to deal with getting the feeder while I am solo qing or duo qing. But say I was in a team I would push for this map since cordination is the biggest part of TDM game styles.
I must say i still hate Courtyard and i think the majority docent like it, based on all the people i play with and votes. Courtyard usually gets max 4 votes.
I must admit that the map has become better after they change to a shorter time and i like that its a different mode. I would hate for it to be in ranked rotations though, would rather that we get a couple more team deathmatch maps and put them in their own ranked rotations for those that wants to play those maps.

This map is a blast and can favor non cele teams. This allows for more variation and maybe even a gateway for wvwers. Yet after conversing with a dev on the subject of this map I found that it was originally meant for players to come up with new game types and special events in customs arenas. So with this in mind it probably shouldn’t be in map rotation since its true purpose is not focused oncompetitive PvP rather player design. Through it is in between seasons so it is a nice change of pace in my opinion.

courtyard isnt bad, but its not a good TDM style map.
i’d like to see TDM get its own queue and a few more maps (better designed ones) get put into it.
