Do you think the developers are funny?
Here’s my opinion: Who the hell cares.
so let’s talk about engis
LMAO ENGIS AAAAHHAHAHAH HEHEHEHhhohoho
grouch i think you should drop this one because it’s engis
HEHEHHEH engis HEHAHAHAHAHEHHEHEHEHEHOHOHO grouch, engis HAHEHHEHEHE
heheheh
In short, no not really. Helseth isn’t the paragon of humor all the time either though.
really bad engineer
No one is funny.
The devs are dorky, but they all seem like nice guys. So, who cares xd
I play this game to have fun. I think devs are having fun while making this game and interacting with each other. And all of that is perfectly fine with me since I prefer the healthy, laid back atmosphere to serious business meetings.
Also, did you look at the chat during the stream ? If you want them to behave like corporate bigwigs on a shareholder meeting you might want to “fix” the population so they don’t behave like a room full of feces slinging monkeys.
I’d just take the time to marvel at the artworks they put in the background because those are classy

The main reason I watch the streams and not just read compiled patch notes after the fact is because I find the developers hilarious. They’re just normal guys like us, and despite their shortcomings, they’re great to play with (when we can) and great to watch on stream.
That being said, I suppose they could take things just a little bit more seriously in order to get a PROPER amount of screen time for every class (Thief mentioned for exactly 3.2 seconds, seriously?) and not run out of time, but only if they don’t sacrifice their humanity to do so. I don’t want to watch a bunch of robots recite patch notes.
Also, Helseth is a boring twit with a few good ideas and mostly bad ones. Honestly, the only reason any one gives a kitten about his streams is because he’s so confrontational.
all is vain
stream was fun for me – sometimes too much laughing but the full picture was fun and showed us the developers have fun with what they do
the other end – who cares bout helseth? The most whiny streamer out there. Seriously can´t believe ppl still watch this.
What’s wrong with the devs having fun? It does not matter for me, if I as a viewer can also laugh about every joke, but who am I to complain about other people having fun?

Had fun watching the developer stream, and I’m also having fun watching helseth stream. He might not hit every peoples taste, but I think most of people are just offended from his jokes without realizing that he is just having a good time and is joking around.

I didnt mind it, I dont really watch the livestreams to get info anyway because they take sooo long to get to the point and they never really give us that much info, but I dont really care about the top level only care about details.
I don’t mind the devs having fun and its better for GW2 if they are enjoying themselves.
However, I know some are nervous, possibly a little embarrassed about being on camera but I would like them to speak more clearly, mumble less and try to avoid looking down all the time. Just because it enables the viewer to understand them better.
Jon Sharp is very, very clearly spoken and I can understand every word he says. Also, he is best at staying on topic and covering all the points. Looked really tired in yesterdays vid thou, go get some sleep!
Also, well doing the live broadcast they are reading the comments which is pretty distracting for them and you can imagine what some of the comments are saying…
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
Although its not their fault because the decision is coming from up top, I dont like their humor at all. I appreciate the attempt I guess, but when some aspects of the game are getting nerfed, I dont want the mofos who are telling me this to be laughing.
They definitely made me laugh a couple of times. I think it was fine. Just wait for the patch notes if you don’t like it.
I think their concept of ‘balance’ is funny. Probably not in a good way though.

Agree entirely with this.
On another note, I don’t really get the idolizing of that guy (Helseth). While he occasionally makes some valid and obvious points, surely there has to be others out there for you lot to worship, instead of a egocentric jerk like him.

I saw people having fun, it was great and undoubtedly it’ll get more streamlined as they get more used to it.
Looking forward to seeing more of them, I for one wouldn’t have them change a thing!

Are you serious? Why is this thread in the structured PvP forum? Next time on, don’t watch the show. Read the summarized notes.
It’s a video game, who cares if the devs have some fun while still giving you the info. This isn’t some business meeting. Let them and the audience have some fun.
Heavens Rage
I only saw all the video because they were in a good mod. If they were there just to make anouncements, i would just read the notes after.
Jesus, so everything helseth says ends up on the forums these days? Fanboyism much?
Anyway, it was entertaining, not hilarious but I chuckled a bit.
It was a little bit over the top for my taste.
I dont mind if they try to make the stream more fun, or if they have fun, but the main purpose of the stream should be the information.
For example they almost got the Mesmer forum lightet on fire, as they didnt make clear, how they nerf Deceptive Evasion. A lot of ppl thought, they would make it only work if you dont have clones up.
What I’m also asking myself is, why we always have to watch the devs. Cant they give us ingame footage or sth like this?
e.g. I’d prefer to see the new Pin Down Animation, instead of John Sharp staring right into the camera like a psycho going to murder you ( ).
what does humor have to do with balance… i couldn’t care less how they look, what they joke about and not, as long as they balance classes properly
want good jokes, go watch a comedian
want good looking ppl, go watch model show
i am actually more surprised that mods didn’t delete this thread yet considering how fast they are on it usually

+1
I love the light mood, and how laid back devs are in the Ready Up streams. That, and them using the chat room or commenting some of the posts in real time.
It creates a sense of familiarity between Anet and the community, which I think is pretty healthy.
BTW, what were they staring at through the streaming: simply the camera, or some kind of giant screen showing the stream’s chat?
[DEvs]
So warrior … healing Signet its realy realy strong in a bunch of ways …. so we double the passive!
Skilled Thiefs are dangerous
Yeah, I thought their joke about the 8% nerf to HealSig was absolutely hilarious. Made my day.
Now though I want to hear how much they’re actually going to nerf HealSig, since they only seemed to joke about the matter yesterday.
HAHAHA! We all play warriors!
Not funny joke or fact?
Personally, I think the joking is okay. People need to not take it so seriously like its a breaking news cast. Even though it did break my heart that they nerfed my MM. I’m sure I’ll survive. :P

they’re as funny as anybody would be talking shop to a bunch of strangers they can’t see…
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
They’re staining the very foundation of this e-sport with their childish behavior. The sanctity of the dev talk has been tainted. For shame.
I think they give 0 kittens. They’re just having a good time.
as angry nerd tears rolled down his fat young cheeks.
maybe we should talk about the community’s lack of a sense of humor?

This. It was a really informative stream that gave us a lot of information. These guys are humans that work together, of course they are gonna banter.
If you don’t like the banter, wait for the mechanical patch notes.
Not my type if humor the jokes and Lulz weren’t particularly funny… But it didn’t bother me.
The first ready up was kinda cute with the silly phone call bit, that was as least entertaining even if it didn’t make me roll on the floor.
My question is… We’re they hamming it up to put on a show? Or is them being normal?
If it’s them being normal I’d say more work less play. The game is in a serious situation if your in any level at least moderately above casual. (and I mean that for every aspect of the game not just PvP) and if the devs aren’t taking it seriously well… Then a lot of us are going to continue our breaks.
Humor wise tho I’d say just tolerate it, it’s not that big a deal really. It’s kind of silly tho when they are on a tight schedule and they extend certain parts for repeated jokes.

I take it you never worked in a software development office? Not being serious != not taking it seriously.
How long did the stream take?
If I take a look at the highlights on reddit, I dont think it took more than 30 minutes, huh.
Arenanet could more often get straight to the facts. But instead so much unnecessary smalltalk. Thats why I cant stand these streams. Less info, more blah blah.

Not that funny.. the word that comes to mind is “unprofessional”
Technical Strength – Engineer
Dungeon Master – FotM 46
no not funny, to much time waste and to less informations about professions…
Spirit Ranger Yilvina Darnus
Bunker Guardian Morwenna Darnus
I think it’s funny that they’re all Seahawks fans. (Go niners! >.>)
Not that funny.. the word that comes to mind is “unprofessional”
Ugh… Really? How professional do you want someone to be who’s making your kitten videogame? >_>: F’F’S.

They weren’t being THAT bad as it were. Maybe drawing out a little much, but oh well. It’s easier than you think to lose track of time when you’re trying to balance time between talking and goofing with other real people around you, and spending enough “serious time” talking into a camera. Its a difficult concept to visualize, but it makes sense. Also, I’m glad the devs aren’t hard-kitten. Its easier to work with.
I don’t always agree with their decisions, but that has nothing to do with how they present the information. Secondly, they don’t always have enough info to give out. All the “too much time wasted, not enough info”. Don’t watch it and wait for a written preview by someone who did, which is inevitable. A lot of things they can’t say, they even said directly “we can’t talk about this yet”, that generally means they have no idea if its even going to happen, or it’s in development and talking about it too soon could either get hopes up or give a bad impression of whatever it is. So they fill the time with some being silly and having fun at work. I praise that. >_>:
I can assure you, however that the write-up someone does for it will be nice, neat, professional and entirely not funny for those of you who need it fed to you that way.

I saw Helseth complain on his stream that all the random banter during Ready Up is unfunny and cringe-worthy. What do you guys think? Should the developers focus on the announcements instead of attempts at humor?
Do I think they were funny? No. Do I think they were fun? Yes. And I think that was the goal. They weren’t auditioning for an HBO special. They were just trying to keep a potentially dull discussion lively.
Also, who is Helseth and why should I care about this person’s opinion? There are two threads on this forum mentioning this person. I had never heard of Helseth before today.

I like them, there shouldnt be a “top buisness level of seriousness in balancing” a game.
What I dont like, and what is probably causing all the humorbashing, is using jokes to conceal mistakes.
“Petting zoo” is a 6month old joke , and it will get a shawe only now (actualy 1-2months from now).
“Exotics were a mistake, far to easy, thats why Ascended. But were stopping here.” by Colling Johanson at pax interview with MattVisual.
At the end of the day, were watching balance previews – to solve balance problems. So statements like the 2nd example, will please, restore faith and make the community happier than the best joke without a solution.
I loved one of them (carl?) going superman on elementalist, heck, I even like helseth , just because theyre backed up with facts and a proposed step forward.
I like it, they seem to love what they are doing and so it seems to me it`s just normal to do jokes lol
I didn’t find them funny at all and didn’t appreciate the tone taken. When they’re addressing such serious issues I would prefer a more professional and mature approach.
I’m not saying don’t let your personality show but let each other speak clearly without interruptions. The way they acted makes me question their level of work experience and actual qualifications to balance this game.
If you’re broadcasting to a mixed target audience spanning a large spectrum of ages, presenting to the lowest common denominator is a mistake. If I was a shareholder in the company you can be sure I’d be complaining.

That pretty much says it all. I didn’t laugh or chuckle like I do when I watch a comedy movie, but I was entertained all throughout the stream nonetheless.
Honestly after watching all wildstar streams and really laughing out loud with the Devs humor, i dont think ANet devs have humor. but really thats not something that has to do with the game at all.
