HoT join not encouraging new sPvP players
it is a good filtering process.
survival of the fittest.
if they can’t get past the hotjoin phase they probably are not fit to survive in solo arena or team arena as well.
I’ve been playing lots of HoT join this weekend and think it’s in a terrible state.
Where as it was always a zergy chaotic experience it’s now often a gank fest.
The experienced players quickly see who the other experienced players are and team up. We’re also getting guild teams and maybe by circumstance certain OP class teams.
It’s not an experience that is going to encourage new players to participate in sPvP.
Just a tip – find that guy who is constantly killing you…then next match wait for him to choose a side and then join it. Pretty dang simple, huh? If that doesn’t work you could always, oh I dunno, join a different match maybe?

Actually, it feels better than in the previous months. Points are being capped and ninja’d at twice the rate, splitting up zerging. Also I’ve been noticing much more bunkering and tanky builds, also countering zergy behaviour.
However you are quite right- it does little to cater to very new players.

Just came from a couple matches of that. Very unenjoyable.

they probably are not fit to survive
You mean there’s something worse than experienced players ganging up on inexperienced players?
I don’t want hazing to prepare me for a greater challenge, I want to be able to log in to competitive matches for an hour or so.
I don’t need a gauntlet of terror, I’m not training for the horrors ahead. I just want to have fun and have a chance to get a little better.

My main problem with hot join is that I like to use it to try out builds before taking them into the queues, but so many matches end up with annoying zerg teams not even trying to hold points which makes it impossible to tell how a build will play in a real match.
SoloQ is for new players.
Hotjoins are for good times.
TeamQ is for third party voip.

It doesn’t filter. Nothing makes sense in hotjoin. I use it to warm up if I didn’t play for some time, just to retake control of my character.
Leave it as it is, but don’t give it too much weight.
because he doesn’t know it himself

They wanna play 8 vs 8 so why would they play 5 vs 5? Zerg and chaos is fun. You get more kills.

Games have actually been improving quite a bit for me. Much less stacked teams and always ending with a decent fight, like 300-500 and up. With people actually ditching nodes to leave just 1 guy there and playing for caps, calling out zergs, bunkering, etc.
When it does get stacked, just go to another game, switch teams, or just spectate and join again after the match. I find spectating to be a bit hilarious sometimes.

Actually,
SoloQ = where lost new players are at or lonely souls
Hotjoin = frustrated ExSoloQ players
TeamQ = people with friends

My last two team queue matches in the winter map, I was the only person (out of 10) to even try to get Tranquility at 8:30. That tells you a fair bit about the state of the average player these days.
Both times I got it, and we lost because nobody could hold the points.
Last update pretty much destroyed Hotjoin. Most of the matches are one-sided. Avoid it like a plague.
