That makes too much sense, can’t possibly be valid.

I agree with you and question why people even hold points in soloq. Go fight people.
If the game mode didnt require you to stand on a point you’d have to deal with Prismatic Understanding mesmers and permastealth/disengage thieves like you see in wvw. The only reason these things are worthless in pvp is the cap point – without it you’d face a bucket load of kitten the likes of which you just aren’t prepared for.
Remove useless statistics and add “damage done” “healing done” “killing blows” “stomps” that’d keep me going! Show all player’s statistics so we can compare. Its a competitive game, these things help drive people to be better. :P

Im not saying remove the points, just give them less importance and more importance on fighting players on and especially off points.

I agree! I also agree with the OP. Sad that the ppl responding to the post are saying TDM KILL KILL KILL or 15V15 WVWVWVW

Those are not the statistics that matter in this game, and that’s the problem. It’s team-based game, not Call of Duty.
I know but its fun to watch. :P

No, not really.

That’s an opinion… You can’t say that… That’s the sole purpose I kept interest in PvP in WoW for 8 years straight because I had solid numbers to relate and it helped stroke my ego. Bad or good, doesn’t matter, it kept me paying and kept me happy.

neither do the current statistics. damage done wouldnt be that good either, because it would drive people away from bunker specs and stuff and healing done would lead new players to believe you can play healing role in this game.
Best would be a Stomps/Kills credited/Deaths chart. And then we could say stuff like, “Man my S/K/D ratio is really good” ala league of legends’ kda and we would be one step closer to esports.

People who get off on game-chart numbers also typically like to play dps, so the problem tends to work itself out.
People played tanks in like every MMOs even though they had the kitteniest numbers.
A dmg done/taken/healing chart is like a necessity in MMOs.
Running a solo queue game today and we lose 500-40. The mesmer on my team shouts out, “I got number 1”.
This is a guy who spent the entire match playing off point and trying to kill players where it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.
Please devs, get rid of these scoreboards. They are sending these players the wrong message. They think solo performance in a match somehow matters.
And please put something in the game to teach players about how to play this game properly, i.e. fight on point, dont be a solo hero, rez your teammates instead of running off.
Either that or just give players the ability to /kick people who aren’t playing correctly.
Sounds like stuff that was taught in hotjoin

People like you two are what ruin solo queue. Why try to hold points? Because whether you like it or not that is how you win. Seriously you two have just encapsulated why solo q is such horrid experience even outside of the bad matchmaking we have people like you two that apparently would go out of there way to cause loses by just pew pewing all over the map regardless of whether it helps you win or not. GO AWAY. Hotjoins and WvWvW are that way —-————————>

it appears that Spvp is not the location to showcase our pvp skills. for this I am sorry if it has rustled your Jimmies. I will no longer try to fight other players but instead try and decap an empty point for the entire match so we can “win” the pvp match.

Youre rude, you’ve eccapsulated the player that rages on anything. I bet you afk if you don’t win. The tone of your post is that of a frustrated player. Don’t violate my game mode.

If you had to channel to cap points this wouldn’t be a problem, just sayin.
Problem is point fighting doesn’t let you use terrain all that effectively. Even if you can out play a hard counter you end up losing points because of a tactical retreat that your team mates yell at you for. (Even if you win them the game /sigh)

Whilst reading this thread, i thought of an alternative that makes player actions directly contribute to score and thus victory:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/What-if-scoring-was-like-soccer/3175323
Rather than the very undefinable metric of “what did this player do to stop enemies from capping points, and capping points himself?” Instead the scoring is very direct and personal, just like scoring a goal in a sports match. (you can also have a stat for assists)
“This is a guy who spent the entire match playing off point and trying to kill players where it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.”

this is why we need real PVP, for some strange reason, people in this game get yelled at for killing other players.
Everything we know about PVP is a dream.

This idea might be helpful to incentivize fighting on points: offer personal glory ticks for every few seconds you stay on a point regardless of who owns it. Make the points count towards the scoreboard but not actually on the score. The people who want to stroke their egos with scoreboard will fight on point, and those who want to farm glory will plop themselves down and defend points. Bam, those who want to play 1vs1 will now help take or keep points while being much more helpful than fighting in a random nook on the map.
—-A very simple solution to a very simple problem. It doesn’t change scoring directly leading to win or losses, but it will cause more participation in those who would “ruin the game by playing ‘solo’”
(edited by Tom.8571)
Maybe instead they should incentivize skirmishing. Make it an actual worth while thing to do like 25-50 points/game score for killing someone off point. 10-20 skirmish kills to win the game is enough to scare people away from fighting off points cuz they might feed, and make those risky people who can fight go all out.
But I’m still more of the mindset that the way someone caps should be an active thing that can be interrupted.

Who said 1v1 any place in this thread. To assume is foolish just like playing the same game mode since launch.
Holding cap points is so 2003

This is a team-based game. It is beyond me as to why you are playing a team-based game when you clearly want to just run out and play a 1v1 game. It sounds to me that this is not the game for you. I’d suggest you try something else, like Halo or the like.

My suggestion would be to give more importance to the Player Vs Player/s aspect instead of the Player Vs circle on the ground.
There’s no such a thing like “player vs circle on the ground”. It can happen, but if it happens too often, then there’s at least a team whose players don’t have a clue about map control.
My suggestion would be to give more importance to the Player Vs Player/s aspect instead of the Player Vs circle on the ground.
The circles are there to force conflict, allow for build/role variety, and promote large-scale strategy. Chess is player vs. player even though the object is only to checkmate the opposing king. It would be silly to say that chess is player vs. 64 squares.
Even WvWvW is player vs circle.XD

I get the 3 points are to Force some sort of a fight there but the actual fight (on and off points) should be more rewarding than taking the point.

That might be true if the game mode weren’t called “Conquest” where map control is the objective, and killing opponents is only a means to that end.
So no, it shouldn’t be more rewarding in Conquest to kill a player than to capture a point.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
I don’t get it. The actual fight is as important as getting the point because the winning team is going to be the one controlling it.
If bases weren’t granting points at all and everything will be about killing and not being killed, teams would be filled, as someone stated before, with PU mesmers, stealthy sustained condi thieves and other out of balance kitten.
I get the 3 points are to Force some sort of a fight there but the actual fight (on and off points) should be more rewarding than taking the point.
Oh it is. In midfights, the point will remain neutral until one side wins the fight. Same goes for sidepoint fights, although that’s a bit different because if a low-mobility build wins the fight he’ll get the node even if he can’t catch up to his opponent to finish him off. Again, it’s a way of making the fight more important, not “oh no you outplayed me but I’ll just reset the fight real quick…”
The fight off points is just as important as the fight on points. For example, if my team has two points, I want to get the other team stuck just trying to push through my map control to reach the points. Killing someone off-point makes it 5v4 on the rest of the map, and usually gives the team that won the fight the advantage and map control.
The only time that off-point fights are bad is when someone is not paying attention to the match and is just zerging/chasing people for no strategic reason, especially Xv1. It would be like a military commander sending a huge force to chase down some strategically worthless enemy while his own country’s capital was being sacked. That’s not “winning a fight” that’s just being dumb.
My suggestion would be to give more importance to the Player Vs Player/s aspect instead of the Player Vs circle on the ground.

This whole thing can be solved by introducing TDM and then revamping the scoring system of Conquest to better reward for controlling points and less so for killing off point. Then everybody wins. The two modes simply have to have different scoring priorities.
They just need to bring a version of Huttball to SPVP

It’s not that easy.
Classes are balanced around Conquest mode; you can’t just throw TDM in and expect things to work properly.

like i thought fighting creeps for gold and lvl’ing up is about pve, but looking at other games it obviously is not
no gutz no glory
“Tranquility has a beard.”
I had moments in games where i was defending a point solo vs 2-3 ppl. Ended up getting trashtalk from a guy that was just zerging and randomly capping/leaving points and killing people. How i had only 150 points while he had 200. And how i was the reason for that loss.
People who think the points equals the contribution to a win are just clueless. Those are the same guys who sit on closepoint with 4 untill it caps, at the start of a match.

Billy Idol gets it. Pretty much any kind of game mode that is not based upon regional occupation would require a lot of rework of the professions and mechanics.

Contribution to a win/loss is not that clear… sometimes no one did stupid things, but no one actually helped the other.
And you can’t tell that by the points…
Only thing you can say is: if you are a roamer and are first/second on your team, probably you didn’t your job. Or at least you didn’t fail miserably at it.
