I love Tournaments.
I specifically play the free ones at the time.

but I have this thing where every 3 out of 5 matches my team will be down a player—maybe two!—on the first round and sometimes two or more players will not show up for round 2.

ArenaNet, you should really consider using the Dishonorable Hex like you did in Guild Wars 1 to people who decide to not show up for their tournament matches. I can deal with it in the hot-joinable matches as players are constantly coming in and out, but this absolutely demoralizes me to search for another match.

Other players tell me I should join a PvP Guild, though I prefer my small guild (20+ members) that I’m currently in and lead. I don’t mind PUGs, but I mind it when they don’t show up for something they signed up for that I am, unfortunately, apart of.

Luckily you can be a member of more than one guild, you can just only represent one at a time.

I agree with shaolin and sometimes leave the tournament personally when I see there is no point in wasting my valuable time being killed over and over by an organised team!
It’s not fun.

I agree with OP. Leavers waste my time and need to pay for their slackness.

In my experience, there’s a lot of no-shows who simply don’t ever join the match. In those cases you’re not dealing with people who saw a premade and just left, they just never took their queue.

Which causes greater player loss, people who quit playing because they abandoned too many games or people who quit because their teammates kept abandoning them? I’d be more inclined to believe that one of the 4 people who get screwed over by a leaver are more likely to quit playing than the leaver.

That’s ok.

If there is no reason to play because the matchmaking system sucks and you don’t want to waste your valuable time on no-chance matches, then there is no reason to queue for them in the first place, then turn around and waste other peoples valuable time either.

If the entire system collapses because of this, it either gets abandoned, fixed, or rebuilt from scratch. Everybody that matters wins when quitters get punished.
