Its called there decay system is trash or bug ridden as well as there base rating system. Don’t worry though they’ll iron it out at some point! < total sarcasm.
This is the problem with hidden ratings and this has been relayed many times to the developers.
GW2 is too lenient and doesn’t want to punish ratings of good players even if they haven’t played in 4 months.
All this leads too is people ranking down faster than they rank up due to people with higher rating not playing so your consistently playing against people your rating or worse.

Which is totally kitten backwards they should be rewarding doing well currently more and reward the people actually playing the game by giving them a better chance at making the top 1000.
I know it is, you don’t need to convince me its bad, you gotta convince the GW2 developers.
The current decay system works where if you don’t play in a month you drop like 25 spots and I’m not sure how it works after that, I think its every month you drop 25 spots, which isn’t much if you ask me. So you have a lot of players playing 1 game a month just to stay at a good spot on leaderboard while you have massive amounts of players in the % trying to get to a good spot but since you rank down faster than you rank up its very hard to do without a decent team. To some people being rank 500 and under is very nice and good spot to just chill at. There is a post someplace of someone being rank 350 or so and he hasn’t played in like 2 months or so.
This game is very lenient towards knocking people off leaderboards. I know starcraft ladder hardly moved as well, but because this game gives you rank points by playing a non competitive game like hotjoin, its very abusive, in GW1 the only way to get rank was by playing tpvp. I don’t think that should be the case in GW2 but GW2 should seriously relook the amount of rank points you can get in hotjoins. Theres no incentive to continue tpvp after you become top 25 on leaderboards when theres a huge incentive to play hotjoin and rank up super fast without any risks whatsoever.
Just look at these images:

Img2, leaderboard decay knocked Dreamer off top 25 (July 7th)
Img3, Dreamer plays 1 game and becomes #2. (July 31st)
All he has to do is play 1 game a month and he’ll stay top 5.

Getting to the top 500 or even 350 is easy, its breaking beyond that which seems to be difficult. You can’t go 50% win at 80%+ an expect to get into the top 1000 because people will be jumping over you and you will either fall or sustain depending on how others are doing. Once your in the top 1000 playing with other top 1000 players going 50% will sustain you for the most part, going 55% will slowly let you creep up and going 60% will allow you to move quickly.

It took me 23 straight wins to gain 3 ranks. ;-;

Easier to gain ranks if you are beating the people above you.

By premading vs solos aswell.
Regarding decay – it’s working. I was at r300 when i stopped playing 1.5 months ago and now i am r600, so there’s that.

I think whats in question is if 100 ranks per ~20 days is good enough.

Not to be rude but i don’t think you should be ranked at all. Im not saying you should be dropped under 10000 people or something but thwat should happen is you fall off and then if you come back you can get right back on with a fairly modest streak of success maybe not quite as high as you were. This has nothing to do with myself personaly I solo queue way too much to worry about being in the top 1000 I just think it is not the right way to do it. The people that are playing actively deserve the best chance to be in the top 1000. A month and a half of not even playing is one match is a long time.

I wasn’t trying to be rude to you or anything just venting my frustrations. You produced good evidence yesterday about how bad the decay is in a thread that the devs posted in and they just totally ignored it. Unfortunately we seem to be fighting a losing battle here they put in some kind of rating decay and I guess they feel they have more pressing things to work on before they would do another pass through on the rating decay system.
Hi,
I have around 100 played tourneys. I did not play any since March and never played any before March.
Now I am placed Rank 386.
How is this even possible if I dont really play this modus?
You are not showing up on the leaderboards at all, good trolling though.

They’re showing up on the EU boards if that’s what you couldn’t be bothered to check.
Anyways it’s a pretty funny system, still in the top 100 with just 22 games played since the leaderboard came out and not too long ago I’d been in the top 50 with the same amount.
Not sure why people even bother putting “top #” in their signatures as it doesn’t really mean anything at this point.

Well, i think so few people play tournaments nowadays that anyone who starts playing can get to the top 1k.
Yesterday I had a dps guard in my team (#yoloque) who was r13 and asking how to change traits. Actually, he is rank 500 on the leaderboards.
Not a smurf account, I’m sure. He just either got carried or ladder decay threw everything out of his way.
Hopefully this soloque split will bring back players. But some gamemodes would be better.. i was fine with conquest, but still very disappointed after GW1. Can you tell me just one MMo with only one Pvp mode? Devs tend to forget that this is an MMO..

I must admit, that I just bunkered Middle in Khylo, Ninfhiel and Spiritwatch as a CC/Shout 0/0/30/30/10 Guardian on Cleric trinket and a very good team carried me against pretty good high ranked opposed teams.
As they also soloqueued and I did not, I lost less matches and was the only one in the team on the leaderboards, even though they had 10x more matches back then.

Ok, I moved 3 ranks to 383 without playing any tournaments. This is madness and someone needs to adress this issue. It feels unfair for dedicated tPvPers.
