Please, lower the rank requirements.
They don’t really need to lower the ranks. What they need to do, if there’s any truth in their “cosmetic only” business, is simply add more cosmetics.
You’ll see that some in-game skins are missing in the mist. For instance, we can’t have the foefire’s / elementalist conjured weapons / mesmer phantasm weapons / lengendaries (come on Anet!) / etc series. And that’s talking about weapons only, maybe there’s even armor sets in PVE that we can’t have in PVP.
On top of that, they can add exclusive finishers, boosters and especially different animations (everyone but asuras have the same animation for every weapon), in their gem store.
They are already looking at ways to let you obtain higher rank gear, presumably with excess glory. This is good cause people are starting to push millions of excess.
I also agree, however, that there could always be more stuff to get.

I currently have around 50k.
Why do I have only 50k? Because I have every rank set already, and I have all 8 proffessions geared to my liking. I got all the tourny sets, and every rank set

:/ I mean what else am I gonna do for another 2 months till I rank up? Which will then be another 4-8 months, another 2-3 years.
Its getting to the point where if I look at pvp from any standard point, ranking up will take 3+ years to make it even to 60-70 for me considering I don’t spend 4+ hours a day.
i think it’s funny this game (pvp) is the grindiest i’ve ever played and it was advertised as 0 grind. Then again it’s just cosmetic? I think that matters :S
rank need to be hard and long learned.

There is a difference between a long rank-up and just making it ludicrous.
Guild Wars 2 is just insane. Its just absolutely insane. No one has this amount of time.
——————————————————-
Listen, it wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t playing the same gametype over and over on the same maps, but cmon. I’m pretty sure even the most dedicated players will either just use an exploit or hack it to get to 80. I mean realistically, I could learn to code, hack this game, and be rank 80 in a shorter time than it would take me to complete this.(not that I would ever.).
If you aren’t going to make spvp a highlight of gw2 AT LEAST MAKE IT FUN
-It takes 4000+ hours of hitting 2k an hour to reach 80. 4 THOUSAND hours. Probably more hours spent on this pvp.

PLEASE arenanet, realize that you made a mistake for once and change it!

It’s not the amount, it’s the way you can farm it that is ridicoulous.
As in this game rank is pretty much meaningless, who the hell cares about having an emote to show how long you farmed hotjoin?

Bring daily-/monthly tournaments with qp-reward and then let us get gear over qps. qps only for rank 1-8 in daily and 1-24 in monthly. So not every1 can get the gear but good players dont need to farm/grind. For pvpers who dont play tournies = gem store (but not the same gear so you can see the difference). more incentive for anet to bring pvp up (gem store = money) and more incentive for players to actually play. problem solved. AND BRING BACK GEMS TO PVP OR GIVE US GOLD FOR GLORY. thanks

Seriously, there is so much to be made in the gem store how is this overlooked.
I mean sure, you have the fused weapons now, but imagine if you had rank tokens boxes, or gem/glory conversion, or idk ANYTHING
I mean spvp in general gets cosmetics as a reward, it wouldn’t be that hard to incorporate that into the gem store!(Seriously, pvper’s would gobble that up)

So why complain about the amount to rank up then?
That’s no problem at all.

So….. whats the harm in lowering the rank requirements or providing gem-store pvp options?

Or are you suggesting that rank should mean something other than cosmetics?
The amount of Points you need to rank up is fine (evekitten0k from 70 to 80).
The problem is you have not any option of progressive ranking. Compare it to GW1, it’s not about cosmetics at all.

Uh……the ranking is progressive(?) Sorry I don’t catch the meaning.

As you can see it goes from 500 to 4k to 7.5k 15k to 45k to 75k to 150k to 450k to750k
That is progression right? It goes up every rank tier.

The problem with the ranking imo is that it should remain flat at a point. Its not giving anything but cosmetics, so the point to raise it is just silly imo.
I have to ask: Who is this high-rank requirement even made for? I mean is this really made for that one guy who just has absolute dedication to gw2 pvp and plays hotjoins only for 4+ hours a day? Spvp is already dead in comparison to PVE, why not just give it something for the casuals?
I understand setting the bar a little high, but this? Its like making an achievement “kill 5 trillion rabits” or something. Pointless.

NOBODY CARES GUYSD why do you need to be high rank anyway?:DDDD

D why do you need to be high rank anyway?:DDDD
Its not the high rank, its keeping people interested in spvp.
Every game has this whether you realize it not. CoD has prestige and unlocks while Counterstrike has customization and creativity for different servers/game types.
-Thats just fps as an example, you can use pretty much everything.
————————————————
I’m not making this thread saying “I WANT TO BE LVL80”, I’m pointing out that the minute someone looks up spvp rank requirements, they’ll just drop it at a certain point because there isn’t enough incentive to continue playing.
-Note: This HELPS with that incentive, it doesn’t cover ALL OF IT.
Note #2: This also would make arenanet a lot of cash if they could just make this in the gem store.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear. What I meant is progressive ranking in terms of consecutive wins for example. This would be for tournaments: 2 wins in a row = 100 rank-point bonus, 3 wins in a row = 200 rank-point bonus, 3 wins = 300 rank-points etc. etc.).
The state now is about 300+ points every match. So yu earn every match about the same rank-points.
The rank-system at the moment is a complete failure. You can farm all day hotjoin and have a higher rank than a top tournaments player. Means you don’t need skill or anything to have a higher rank. It’s just about how much time you spend. So ye, rank in this game is meaningless due to hotjoin.

ye and starcraft has none of that kitten. LoL not much either after lvl 30. why? coz those games’ pvp is fun, unlike gw2 where you CAPTURE NODES LOL and there isn’t even a friggin ladder………
They should double the frequency of receiving titles (at 45, 55 etc). Everyone likes titles.
The system in development for glory vendors that sell hard to get gear is a better idea than rank rewards IMO.
I’m all for it requiring crazy amounts of glory though, or possibly a minimum rating.
Maybe the rating could contain a rank multiplier per match?
Also, if winning key tournaments had a guild wide reward scheme outside the mists, teams could be supported by a WvW guild say. If all of icoa were supporting a team over twitch it would be fairly cool.

I don’t think so. I think it’s pretty ridiculous. I mean, it took me 1038 games (mostly sPvP, some tournament) just to hit rank 30, playing on and off since release. If each game took 10 minutes that equals 173 hours or 7.2 days played time to hit a very low rank. I could level 2 characters to 80 in far less played time. Let’s not forget that the amount of points you need gets harsher the higher you go. Is it going to take another 5 days played just to go from 30 to 40? Anyone who thinks the current ranking is fine, probably plays 40 hours a week or is the carrot on a stick gamer type who wants a constant unattainable goal.

That’s why you need progressive ranking. I talk about win-strikes. In GW1 R15 was 100.000 fame. (you can compare it to rank 80 in GW2). For 1 win you get 1 fame.
But the point was and now read carefully: With every other win you rowed, you got added fame.
2 wins= 2 fame
3 wins = 3 fame
4 wins = 4 fame
5 wins = 6 fame
6 wins = 8 fame
7 wins = 12 fame
etc.
That’s what I mean with progressive ranking. God help me!
Or…they could offer the cosmetic armors in the cash shop, have them available through a long arduous grind or through gems. I am positive plenty of players would spend their money this way.
This way you ccan actually you know…monetize pvp without doing more harm by restricting the core game. Let players pay for fluff and keep the actual game available to all, it’s not rocket science.

To be honest this is a good idea. You can pay to win to an extent in pve where gear actually has an impact, why not use it to monetize spvp?
If it means they can afford a larger team to work on stuff that matters I’m all for it.

I don’t see why the Glory Booster couldn’t give you 50% more points too. It wouldn’t show on the scoreboard ofc.

Exactly, you monetize spvp, more people join. Its a win-win all around.
