One more time, the upcoming update includes a ton of content for PvE players and none for the those of us that enjoy the competitive aspect of the game even though we paid the same amount for the game.

That made me think:

so far, how many updates were for pvp players and how many for the pve crowd?

PVE: October 2012, November 2012, December 2012, January 2013, February 2013, March 2013

PVP: October 2012, November 2012, February 2013, March 2013

It wasn’t so bad, but after march Anet clearly changed their mind about pvp development:

PVE: 1st april, 30 april, 14th may, 28th may, 11th june, 25th june, 9th july2, 23th july, 6th august, 20th august, 3rd september, 17th september, 1st october, 15th october, 29th october, 12th november

PVP: 30 april, 11th june, 9th june, 6th august,

Also “custom arenas” were announced in 3 different patches I ommited the repetitions

All in all:

PVE only patches: December 2012, January 2013, 1st april, 14th may, 28th may, 25th june, 23th july, 20th august, 3rd september, 17th september, 1st october, 15th october, 29th october, 12th november

PVP only patches: none

The unfortunate reality is this… PvP in its current format is a fail. It is just notpopular enough to justify a huge amount of development effort with the current conquest model. I think that is why ANET has now reversed decision and are looking at other game modes. Once they pick the right one, if PvP becomes more popular, you will see more development around PvP.

Hey, at least now we know that being a general kitten, whining, spamming twitch streams, behaving like a spoiled kid, insulting devs and coming up with conspiracy theories about how devs want to destroy a game mode that isn’t even a game mode is the fastest way to get the stuff we want in game! And saying you have multiple teams working on things without numbers sounds a lot like a political response. I mean, you can have 5 teams consisting of 1-2 people per team.

Am I seriously the only one who sees the obvious flaw with GW2 pvp?

An rpg game mode…. with no usable rewards…

You want to make money off pvp? Sell the skins, and offer earn-able tiered gear. Not necessarily a gear treadmill like wow, I’m ok with there being a best in slot… But give us something to work towards. Just like your pve model… ….. ….

I know you want to fix all the issues that wow has to offer ANet, but right now hordes of players are going back to wow for their Battlegrounds. Don’t let them win for such a simple and obvious reason.

NO, just no. You are completely wrong. You think tiered gear is the problem? You think arena in wow is doing fine? They have just as much problems as we do, they just have a larger player base built over 10 years that won’t give up on their characters easily. Wow’s pvp is absolute no example to gw2. Tiered gear would be the last straw in gw2 attempt at an healthy pvp. Most people came to play gw2 just because of no tiered gear. You think wow’s best pvp players like tiered gear? Reckful has said that if he was in charge, everyone would have the same stats in pvp.

Take that conversation elsewhere, wvw, pve, whatever. Tiered gear is awful.

I think you, Josh, John etc. try to do the best you can for this game but it’s clear that this is a pve game with some pvp aspects because your teams are totally unbalanced

Love you Anet but here is the thing. Fact: way way way more pve content in this game than pvp. I would love more gametypes. The different map types are nice but there is so much more potential. Just seems odd that when I got this game it said GW2 is an mmo game with two ways to play. pve and pvp. It just seems like you could say this game has these parts. A huge fantastic world for pve that will entertain you for thousands of hours….and territories. Its just odd. This is by far my favorite game I have played this decade. It has held my attention for much longer than previously thought. I would and I think many others would just love a little variation and It would go a very long way. Hope everyone has a great day <3

PvP doesn’t require tons of fresh content every month. It follows other rules than PvE.

People who PvP want achievements, titles and ranks to brag about, a few skins would be nice too. However, the rank system we have now is not really good; not only because it can be easly exploited with Skyhammer, but because it has no real rewards, and gaps between ranks at higher levels are one big unpleasant grind rather than an achievement.

It would be so kitten awesome to have an achievement like Battlemaster in WoW, where it took me like a year to complete hunting all of these hard achievements (and that was before nerf to the hardest ones). But when I did it, I still remember that last match on Strand of the Ancients, I felt like boss of universe with this single new word above my head.

That aside, the two teams working on PvP have slowly become a bit more open lately. They’re actually trying now to be more active on the forums. 10th of December is 3 weeks away. Think its best if people just treat PVP in this game like its a ‘mini-game’, a side-show or a casual break from PVE – whatever really, just its beyond the point where you can see PVP standing along side his much cooler, much richer and much more popular PVE brother (and WVW cousin) as he parties day and night doing cool activities every month.

Do people honestly expect there to be huge changes that even if they are great will bring a massive population back to PVP? If anything positive changes – even if they are great – will just bring about a moderate population boost. Noone has an obligation to be loyal to any online game unless this is the only game you plan on playing for whatever reason.

The PVP population and hype train has departed quite a long time ago. I still get mildly upset over the potential this game could have been but in reality I got so much time out of this game that it may be the best value game I have ever bought. I think right now its only worth complaining if you blindly bought this game for PVP within the last few months and had an utterly disappointing experience because of that.

If anet had more synergy with all three forms (PVP,PVE and WVW) then I’m sure PVP would have been more advanced then currently. Even something cosmetic like being able to wear PVP armor in WVW would be better then nothing. Oh well I still enjoy sPVP casually because investing any more then that is not worth it imo.

My question is: What would need to have in order to make you guys be able to fix/change balance on the fly (as in once per week or 2 weeks). For example: If a sigil is bugged or to strong, how could you fix/change that in a decent time-frame?

I know there is communication with alot of other department and teams but for example: If you were to change warrior’s Healing Signet to cut half of its healing (like before), if you had more people would that make it happen faster? Do you require a gazillion other teams/devs to look at it and just to after months of imbalance say, “yeah we can maybe do that” ? Because if that’s the case then its stupid…

Guys chill. Its understandable if certain things frustrate you. But try to keep it a bit civil and constructive. We are talking with a single human being here. Someone who is part of a much bigger process.

Unless you want a situation like on the wow forums. Where devs simply stopped communicating at all via the forums. The answers you do get from Bliz are copy pasted automatic answers from customer service employees who arent even located in the same country as the devs.

Where all important questions get ignored by the devs while balance is in a stalemate where 70% of all 3v3 teams at decent ratings contain 1 class.

http://www.worldofwargraphs.com/stats-classesrepartition-0-0-0-0-0-3-2-0.html

Where one after the other top tier player stops due to an obvious powercreep. With no patch incoming for 8-9 months at least.

We’re not comparing the output of one team against all other teams, we’re comparing the number of teams assigned to pve content compared to competitive content. Or at least, by their output.

For example, if pvp was a priority, you’d have an entire team dedicated to each class, with a lead designer and a testing team + public test server for inter-class balance.

You’d have seperate technology teams for observer mode, leaderboards, replay recording, net code, UI, etc.

You’d have content teams for maps / game modes, and costumes/rewards.

Etc.

Of course, you’d probably have to let go of a whole bunch of designers, writers and artists (and not hiring voice actors anymore) to afford all of this (and whether you can generate enough revenue from competitive players is doubtful).

One of my theories on why pve gets so much content is that anet had to hire a large number of pve designers, artists and writers to get the huge open world built and filled with content. Now that the game is released, the natural thing for all of these staff to work on is more pve stuff.

They care about money which comes from PvE because people buy gems for clothes, minies, costumes, finishers … PvP does not care about that much and they do not care about pvp.

When you run a business, ofcourse you care about money. They aren’t free to run.

That being said, PvP is rather disappointing in Gw2, it feels like they started it and just gave up and released what they had. For me, there’s very little incentive to continually PvP on a dailly basis (although I have recently). Team makeup is horrible, half the items in the bank aren’t obtainable or broken, and the rewards from tournaments are less than appealing.

If they were to add tokens to buy skins from a vendor (such as consumable PvE skins, but for use in PvP (Rose backpiece, ghastly shield etc)) or random dyes it would be a step in the right direction in my opinion.
