But I agree that it needs some tweaks, mainly reducing the amount of HP you have in downed state. In CoD you get downed but after a couple shots to you your dead. Can happen in a second after downed.
If your downed state HP was reduced, it would allow players to continue attacking rather than stomp. Also it would make reviving a greater challenge and it would require some decent level of teamwork to pull off. The only stomps that you would see would be the safe ones (ie Ele Mist form stomp) because it would be faster to dps the player dead than to stomp.
Remove down-state, and you remove a skill-layer from the game. The last thing GW2 needs is less layers. It’s already dumbed down a lot.

honestly, I would just like to see the removal of stomping and the #2 and #3 downed abilities.
let people bleed out, get healed, and throw rocks while laying there. reduce hp pool so bleed out happens faster and makes healing/ressing a meaningful choice. allow downed players to benefit from aoe regen. allow downed players to move their camera (even from the reduced pov) such that they can reposition their avatar. allow downed players to move by inches, dragging along the ground.
make being downed a meaningful experience and not lottery for who gets to stomp you first.

It definitely adds a layer of complexity to the game. Should you try to rez your teammate and make yourself a sitting duck to get bursted? Or should you just just try to stomp an enemy so your teammate will rally? But if youre too late the enemy will rally. These are quick decisions you have to make in the middle of combat and they can make or break the fight.
Also, if there was no downed state, everyone would just play burst builds and try to spike enemies down as fast as possible.

It was the reason I didn’t like wvw. Big zergs already had a huge advantage then to top it off if you pick some off from the huge zerg they get ressed 5 seconds later. They should have had it only in pve. They won’t remove it probably because strategy revolves around it and some skills/traits would have to be reworked

It may be sad, but here is a tip I learned the hard way:
if the enemy sticks into zergs in a tourney, you have already won. You just have to be sure to avoid the zerg capping the points they leave. But sometimes you need some coordination to do that.
In all other fights, reviving is an excellent mechanic.

A big problem i have with it, if you are able to 1 v 2 or 3. its mute, because you will most likely die to them “throwing rocks”, or just get back up because the finishing moves take so long to cast, not to mention the amount of hp is ridiculous, so just burning them down is a terrible option.
Yesssssssss remove the stupid downed mechanic it is annoying. I want a battle to be over when its over! Lol
Downed state is fine IMO, as it adds quite a bit of fun. Have you ever gone into down state as the same time as a thief, and then the two of you are just throwing things at each other until one dies? It’s pretty fun because you don’t know who will win there.
Also, Downed state adds some actual flavor that makes this different from every other MMO. If you don’t want it, go play a different MMO.

Reality Check: in GW2 just because you bursted someone into downed state does not mean you’ve won.
Maxing out your burst damage and unloading your CDs on an opponent doesn’t require much skill. That’s just appropriating stats and hitting the buttons in the right order. Knowing when, where, and who to stomp/revive is crucial to winning every fight larger than 1v1 in this game.

You need to think beyond the amount of time it would take to type code and test it. He is referring to all the time that has gone into the balancing of the game. If downed state was removed they would have to take a look at and re-balance all sorts of things: self healing, amount of toughness/vitality characters have, and max damage output. There are probably plenty of other things I am overlooking.
Arenanet recently reduced burst damage for the thief because they wanted longer fights. The downed state is currently included in those fights. If you remove downed state then fights will be quicker. Which in turn means Arenanet would want to do another balance pass to have fights last a little longer.

I do not think Ostricheggs is talking about the mechanical implementation of taking out a feature such as the downed state. In any ways, this is not how I read him. He seems to be talking about the fact that the downed state is integrated into the game and its other features in an interdependent web of balanced design and game play. Taking the downed state out of the game would then need a huge game design overhaul that would take considerable time and make GW2 into another game.
I personally like the downed state, and I integrate it into both my PvP as well as my PvE play and tactics.
i personally like the downed state and it will never be removed… so these posts do nothing. You should just change the post to “Fix the Downed State” as in make it better then it is. Right now one persons death can rally a whole team. I do not agree with this. i believe if one person dies then one person rallies.
i think downed state is too predictable and more annoying than fun, especially when im specced offensively. something id like to see is
-skill x has 10-25% chance to kill (bypass downed) if its the skill that took the last of their HP
-option to disable downed state in custom arenas
-maybe something a little less brutal. the whole idea of hovering over a helpless body and smashing his head in with a glowing fist with the optional wolves howling over his dead body is a bit dramatic dont you think?
Just treat the downed state HP as an extension of the player’s normal HP pool. Tada. No more “downed state”. In fact, from this perspective, you will be glad that there’s a downed state, as the stomp is a shortcut to killing players.

Like the other guy said, the basic idea would be to add a fixed % of DS HP to basic HP when removing DS.

Exactly. There is no doubt DS has contributed to sPVP’s spectacular failure, the only question is what %. It would certainly be worth exposing a no-DS option in custom arenas to let the players decide.

I like downed but I don’t like the “unlimited rallying”. They could as well remove rally completely making it necessary to bandage yourself(and others helping to rez).
Probably not nearly as bad in SPvP as it is in World vs World….

Removing possibility of 2v1 againt anyone with a working brain, instant rallies, inherent balance issues, playing a paraplegic for extended periods of time, and long channels that immobilize you are just what an rpg that tries to be an action game needs.
Can engineers make wheelchairs for downed state please, my arms always seem to work at full capacity anyway. I take explosions to the face all day and end up with just broken legs everytime cool story anet

Obviously removal of downed state would result in some portion of the lost hp to go to boosting hp pools. Having a downed state just makes people have these stupidly low hp bars, its why you only see bunker eles for instance. And its a very good deal for thiefs currently as you can stealth stomp anyway, with downed state acting as a failed anti burst mechanic.
