Solo queue on the way... Unranked queue next?
There’s an important middle ground between “complete solo” and “five-man highly competitive premade”, which is for those who enjoy playing with friends without requiring a 5-man team. For this reason, both an uncompetitive queue, like you suggested, and a competitive DuoQ, could be interesting solutions to fill in that middle ground.

Private servers are great and fun to mess around in, but it takes time to organize a game with 10 people especially if you are only a group of 3 or 4 friends. An Unranked queue is so much easier and faster.
Tournaments are scaled with a hidden rating that is visible on the leaderboards. If you were the worst players in the game, you would face someone with the same skill level s yourself.
Why are people so worked up on losing ranking? It’s not like you win anything for being a high rank on the leaderboards. The only people who recognize you is other top 1000 players

It seems to make a difference in other games even if it is almost all subconscious just because the queue is named “Unranked” or “Ranked”.
The problem atm is population. New gametypes and features need to wait a bit until the game grows more. Solo q is an important step in pulling more people in. Step by step. But unranked is certainly a good feature.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!

Anet can always remove hotjoin completely. This way, half of the userbase won’t be split due to a mindless glory farming zerg system disguised as pvp.

I’m talking about unranked matches substituting hotjoin. Not removing hotjoin completely without a substitute.
Id love to see this.
I question how much use something like this would get. Solo queue if you feel like its just so bad to lose a game occassionaly as part of a team. That or smurf account or hotjoin.
I would not want hotjoin-lovers infiltrating my soloQ.

having custom arenas fund hotjoin servers was a great business move, why would they give it up?
1- GW2 Does not have the player base for this. Team Queue will have 30-60 mins queues for sure, unless it’s prime time.
2- There is already Custom arenas for this kind of thing, if you want to scrim just use custom arena…
3- Positive thing is that some players will actually start playing on their main all the time and stop hiding behind second account for months " Symbolic". Which means less people will buy second accounts= less money for anet. so I doubt that will ever happen.

1. Fair point, but I think it will increase the population of spvp immediately.
2. Friends usually don’t care for scrimming, we just wanna hop into a game and start having fun.
3. I don’t advocate anyone doing this, even my teammate symbolic, but I wouldn’t be naming other players when you are guilty of the same thing. Will definitely help keep people on there main account which is a positive all around though good point.
All good points. Maybe Unranked isn’t as wanted by the community as I initially thought, at least for now due to population, but I still think it would be great and could be pretty high on a theoretical priority list.

I rly don’t think they playerbase is big enough for that. And I dont think it’s getting bigger, if Anet doesnt bring some core features and make some advertisement.
Isn’t a core feature just like Phantaram said? Having more variety in the tournament-eqsue environment might actually enlarge the playerbase.
Apart from ranked que and unranked que for people interested in that, I’d add the same things GW1 had – Automated Tournaments, Daily and Monthly – to actually give the premade teams a reason to fight for something else than ladder position or simply the sake of winning (as in, being the winner of a monthly tournament).
tl;dr agreed on op, this game needs more variety in tournament department.

Im one of those players that plays tournaments solo. My rating is jumping up and down between 600. place and 90%, all depending how lucky I am with the team I get. Im sure 75% of the games I lose are due to people making some basic tactical errors, leavers, afks and so on. I have played around 1000 tournament games.
I hope solo que will make the experiance better for people like me that dont have a team and want to play solo in a competitive way (as much as it can be done).
However I can see this also splitting the community even more if they dont remove hot join and competitive teamplay will suffer becouse of this (longer que time).
I must addmit I have given up on GW2 PvP and realised it will never reach the popularity GW1 PvP had. Its sad, but you focus on what makes money, right?
If u truly want some unranked version , u can propose again an older idea that u have told : <<to switch off the leaderboard with a button and play without consequences with ur team8s>>
In this case , on the tPvP Ncp there should be :
a) Solo Arena command
b) Team Arena
c) Unranked Arena
All linked together
But with a twist :
They should pogram the system , so u have to do 10 matches per month , before the <<decay system>> kick off , and if u pushed that button even once, u have to do 30 games before the <<decay>> activates (and all ur team8s that agreed to participate in that match)
U get no rank + no rewards + the enemy get pitiful rating if they win /no loss rating
Edit: Better force to to do 5 matches per week for the decay and 10 if u pushed the button once

The argument of population is too low has been the same argument since beta (I would like to think that). That argument is just plainly stupid.
You won’t increase population by;
a.Doing nothing.
b.Changing nothing.
c.Waiting for years of nothingness to make it happen.
People come back to a game because there is INCENTIVE. People won’t wait for a small cliche of esporting to happen and then decide lets go back. The casual gamer (either being competitive by playing a few hours per day/week or generally being non-competitive) wants to play a game where he has the freedom to play the game at whatever point without thinking he is completely left behind (Gear-based mmorpgs where gear is achieved from grinding for months)
Anyway, I do not want to side track further. The best group experience (different modes; 2v2, unraked games, ect, solo progression, solo with a friend, you name it) is currently still being done by League of Legends to my knowledge.
MMO games and not just mmorpgs need to understand that they got to take care of a wide range of players’ spectrum when it comes to solo or group experience. Gamers these days can, will and do punish games and companies for catering to a very niche type of solo/group experience.
I would be more than happy to have ALL the things that LoL offers adjusted to an mmorpg.

imo its not the hotjoin itself, its how hotjoin teaches players to play what crashes pvp.
they need to remove the 8v8 format from the free servers.
and as far as it is ok to get glory points as far it is not okay to get the same amount of rank points in hotjoin – no matter if loosing or winning (probably the biggest flaw).
running hotjoin-zerg gives about 200-400+ points vs a ranked match – e.g. close bunkering without real issues – gives about 50-100 + additional 200 only if you win.
thats just ridiculous. even making good points in a ranked match + winning will give you about the same amount as you would get in hotjoin.
a reporting system / dishonor points would help to handle people leave/afk.
and there definitely is a need for an unranked queue – hotjoin will never be a replacement for that, no matter how it will be changed.

I like the idea. Sometimes I want to test some builds or tactics with some friends and hot joins are not usefull for this
If unranked isn’t hotjoin, then what is hotjoin suppose to be? Those 100 5v5 servers just a waste of space then?
