Spirit Cooldowns
1.5 second cast time with an obvious animation. Once the spirits go down, if you can drop some solid CC chains on the ranger they won’t be able to do anything.
Am I good?… I’m good.
Actually, you have a lot of reason to kill them. They only have no cooldown if they die by timer. If they die by the blade that cooldown restarts…

Also, in a 1 v 1 the only one you NEED to kill is the sun spirit.

I’m almost positive that the cool down continues based off of when you summoned them, so if you summoned the spirit 30 seconds ago and someone kills it the cool down will be 30 seconds.
Nope. The coodown is 60 seconds, they last 60 seconds. If they die by time out, that initial CD stays, but if you do kill them the Cooldown resets to a full 60 seconds.

Even with spirit builds, rangers aren’t exactly amazing at this game (especially outside of sPvP where they’re borderline worthless and have no class identity to speak of). It’s a tough pill to swallow to usher in nerfs for a class that already isn’t performing.
I would hope that if they nerf spirits that they try to buff the class in other areas so the class still has some purpose even being in the game.
I’m still holding out hope they remove all spirit skills, give rangers staff, and come up with some quazi-mark/well approach to them similar to necromancer marks.
Aren’t many skills in this game that are so awful unless you first invest traits to prop them up.

I literally just tested in the Heart of the Mists on the NPCs, unless it’s different in sPvP (Because HoTM is considered a PvE zone for some reason) I’m going to say you’re wrong. And I haven’t noticed any difference in PvP from what I’m saying when I play tPvP.

So I’ve been playing spirit Ranger recently to see how good they are, and it is actually a lot of fun. One thing that bothers me however is that the spirits start their cool down once you summon them, meaning enemies have very little incentive to kill spirits as they will likely be ready to summon again anyway, also with the trait Nature’s Revenge they will even be punished for doing so. The only spirit worth killing is the Elite one, for obvious reasons. Having nearly 100% up time on my utility spirits just feels unfair honestly, and that’s probably why the build is so strong right now. I suggest the cool down should be lowered to about 45 seconds, but only starts after the spirits die.
While aoe and cleave are a frequent complaint. The purpose of skills that hit multiple targets…is to kill multiple targets. Unlike Phantasms or hell the Rangers pet. Blowing up spirits can be considerably worth your while given that they cling to the Ranger and don’t dodge…
I suggest for all the aoe that is complained about, players utilize it.
The main issue I see with spirits and also why they can be countered without problem (in all cases I’ve seen at least, may be some really good spirit rangers that are harder to counter) is that they follow the ranger closely when you trait for them. The limited control over their movements makes them very vulnerable to AoE, and if you kill the spirits, the ranger is left with no utilities at all.
Particularly around team fights I’d expect the spirits to drop within seconds. The elite spirit while a bit tougher than the others has a 4m cd, so once killed you could actually time with your team when it would be around again. Also you can interrupt its revive ability (see an opponent going down, you should know the ranger may use spirit to try to revive so have 1 player target it and interrupt)
That said, never actually played spirit ranger (in pvp), only tried playing against a few.
I just want to clarify something: Some of you are saying that the spirits follow the ranger closely, and this makes them easier to aoe.
What if the ranger moves out of your aoe? Do the spirits follow him closely? If they follow the ranger, doesn’t this make them harder to kill since no player (not even PVE players) will stand inside the big red aoe circles, causing the spirits to move out of the aoe as well?
What about the aoe cap of 5 targets (3 targets for melee)? Doesn’t this mean that there’s a good chance some of the spirits (or other players in the attack area) won’t be hit by aoes in group fights, since the number of targets is greater than 5? In WvW, people stack on each other to dissipate the aoe damage since it hits a random target per tick if the number of targets is greater than 5.
Let’s keep in mind that ranger + pet + 4 spirits = 6 targets, so either some of the spirits won’t get hit in group fights, or they’ll tank the aoe damage and teammates won’t get hit. Both of these are highly desired outcomes.
I’m not convinced that aoe is the counter.

Spirits react to the ranger if he’s moving out they’ll drag behind and still take ticks. However if you’re using a single hit aoe then it doesn’t matter since he can dodge it, but he can’t move out of something that hits once and spirits don’t dodge.
Anything you hit that isn’t the pet is pretty much productive.
Also, in a 1 v 1 the only one you NEED to kill is the sun spirit.
The secrets out now…
sry, but please finaly accept rangers in tournys…
spirit ranger is the first well balanced build with strengh and weak points
there are ways to win him if u do right and ways to lose him if u do wrong…
its same maybe like vs shatter mes, you have to dodge the shatter combo or
at ele you have to dodge the dmg combos when hes in some elements…
or at bomb engi you have to look on which kit/weapon he is and dont stay in fire combofields… each class have his speacial way to play against and thats good
at spirit ranger, most easy way first look for kill sun spirit, much professions can kill all 3 spirits fast with aoe, then
look maybe a bit on spirits when they die, because the active skills.
when ranger summon new spirits you can hit him easy rly hard, its such a long cast time
for me its rly nice and balanced build, nn to nerf around there…
more interesting would be finaly give ranger better dps builds with longsword or longbow

Strange how Guardian spirit weapons begin their cooldown after they vanish.

BM been killed, trapper much weaker since quickness on demand was moved and pet swap F2 not refreshing. If they do anything to spirits what exactly am i supposed to run in pvp, a freaking LB? no thanks. The only thing they should do about spirits is make em so they don’t die when you enter/exit water cuz that’s annoying and we have full CD to wait. Spirits are extremely easy to kill and without them the ranger doesn’t have any kind of damage worth mentioning.
While I don’t mind playing my spirit ranger, we are far too dependent on other things other then ourselves. Trait wise we are handicapped into bypassing several good traits because spirits are pretty useless without 3 traits buffing them. All for something that 1 second can be killed by some classes.

It seems like a bug that they recharge when you summon them. This isnt how minions work. So yeh, fix this bug please.

Okay I have to take back my words, it currently doesn’t reset the recharge when they die, but I’m almost 200% sure that they USED to because I remember having a lengthy discussion about them with Deku God, and that’s how he had explained it to me, of course this comversation was 2 patches ago.

Yeh. Spirit ranger is the most op thing in the game by far. It is also completely lame. You just put the things up. Dont even need to use utilities and yet have the best build in game? Seems legit.

I really really hope this is a joke (please put smileys and the like, so hard to tell what’s real and what’s joking when it’s written).
If someone is actually having trouble with a spirit ranger, find a non-spirit ranger and put him/her on the spirit ranger. And where are all the spirit rangers anyway? Seen only very few of them around.
If you understand how spirit ranger works, the only way you’ll ever lose against the ranger is if he/she is simply a better player.
I’m willing to say that if a spirit ranger beats me, it’s because he/she outplayed me, not because of the build.

Nope. It’s pretty much the build. Yes someone can play it awfully, but played optimally that build is too broken. Passive buffs with barely any cd and good active skills? Mix that in with a pet + dodging + condition damage and teammates who get passive buffs and c’mon that’s pretty ridic. Where are my guardian spirit weapon love at? The problem is the spirit ranger dominates team fights more than any other class. But it is also a beast in 1v1. You dont have to worry about much because its all passive. You dont have to worry about condi removal because you have emphatic bond and the healing spring.
It really is insanely op. The elite espicially. I thought they want to nerf resses (signet of undeath and illusion) and make the game less lame. I also thought they wanted to nerf things like timewarp which just used to win team fights by themselves. Elite spirit wins team fights by itself.

Spirit rangers aren’t OP because they are easy to counter at high level play.
In fact, I’d say they are actually losing popularity as teams have started bringing a lot of hard counters to stop them.
