Why has matchmaking gotten so much worse?
More new people playing, more people who need to be placed in the correct place for his level. It takes some time.
ANET has told us that PvP is more popular than ever. If so, why is there a decline in matchmaking quality?
There’s your answer right there. You’re getting match ups with less skilled/practiced players because there are far more of them.
The rank system is flawed, you get new people who get a lucky streak and win a couple games in a row which artificially boost their rank so then they end up being match with way more experienced teams where they fail.
I get that they want to place people of the same level, but can’t they make it so you don’t get 4 or5 of the same profession on a team? 2 days ago I got matched with 4 rangers and tonight I got 4 thieves. I saw a team of 5 warriors and a team with 4 mesmers. Meanwhile the opposite team had a variety of classes. Couldn’t the system take all players of both teams and divide all classes evenly between both?

With the new reward tracks there is allot of ppl going into arenas since the reward track progression is limited in hot-joins forcing them into solo q.
Problem is they go into solo queue playing like they do in hot-joins and even though experienced players tell them what to do they ignore or simply don’t even read the chat…
Wile were at it, please improve the match making system, let it also take in consideration the professions and specs being pared, I have had games were one side was 5 bunkers (2 warriors 2 guardians and 1 engy) facing teams of squishes (2 thieves 2 eles 1 mesmer)

I am rank 322 at the moment and I played yesterday (I was around rank 400) 3 games at EU prime time (9 p.m.). In 2 of this games the matchmaking system gave me the possibility to play with or against Sizer. Sizer is rank 2.
Maybe the player pool is very small. Maybe the system has a problem.

one match i even had Collero and Forsaker in Enemy team and noone in my team was ranked and one guy was even 40%
this matchmaking is not fun it even is ANTIfun and make me hating this game more and more

It is really annoying if you see you play against very good people and you have to play with obvious bad people. Same days ago we had a match against Terron and in our team a mesmer joined with standard gear and he asked us if someone knows a good build for a mesmer. Then he told us this is his 3rd pvp match ever. He died 3 times in a row and left the match.
Terron is top 10 in EU and we had someone like this. That’s no fun. Before the feature patch I had a lot of very good games. But after this patch many games are like 500 : 2xx

2 days agoI was at 725 and was matched against Collero and Forsaker multuple times, as a result I’m now at 97% and did not play yesterday…
tbh this MM system is pushing me away from sPvP instead of pulling me into it, if you know what i mean…

Matchmaking isn’t perfect, but 320 ranks should be about .3% of the EU solo queue player pool. I’m not sure we can expect the matchmaker to be more precise than that. Are we saying that each match should contain ranks no further than .2% apart? I think that’s a little bit too much to expect.

He is making a bad case using bad examples but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem with matchmaking becuase there is and we all know what they are which is that new players are given too generous of a MMR to start and can rocket up the rankings with a few lucky wins wich means for a fairly long period time complete noobs can be consistently ranked with at worst average players with hundreds of hours of experience. Secondly, there is no cap on who you can be matched with the game will eventually infinitely expand the pool of players to create a match. Both of those things are 100% undisputable facts and are problems. I am not saying I know the exact answer either but then I’m not paid too.
You can limit the pool of players you can be matched with by canceling your Q after 1 minute of it not popping and rejoining the queue.
It might take forever to get a match that way.

SoloQ is extremely terrible at the moment. It makes me feel stupid for complaining about it before patch. Decent players that never use to flame can’t even hold it back anymore because it frustrates them so much.
TWO THINGS
- Remove Hotjoin Cap (Reward Tracks)
- Remove Skyhammer
You will make SoloQ a much better place for everyone if you do this. After 5000 SoloQ games, I think I probably know more about it than you all at ArenaNet. I have experienced everything in SoloQ.
PvE players who don’t even want to be there themselves are destroying SoloQ.
hotjoin cap isn’t a problem, pushing more players into soloq is a good idea.
Adjusting how matchmaking handles new players by default would be a good thing. I think it should take longer to raise your glicko rating off the bat, and that you would need twice as many wins (or more) to get into the top 100 if its a fresh account. That should limit those who get up there by luck.
Also kitten skyhammer. You pretty much have to dedicate one of your characters to a ‘special’ build for that map.

Not enough players play tpvp now.
They need to improve pvp rewards (with unique reward tracks for tpvp) and they need to add video tutorial/guide IN GAME to teach people how to play conquest correctly (basic/advanded and master guide with videos/situations/why use this build and why not, how to manage movements in different maps, how to handle a 1vs1, 2vs2 situations etc.).
There are 3 issues:
- New players are matched with or against top 50 players after 10-30 games played total. Its even possible for them to win eventho they arent up to par….. since the other team might have their share of “9-4 ppl” aswell.
- Not enough players available.
- System makes matches even when matches are uneven. I had instant pops versus percentage players…..MMR systems are there to prefent uneven matchups, not create them.
Look at the game on the screenshot for example.
- In our team we had a guard that sat on the capture point in mid and never left it all game…even when Ethernelya was forced to 1v2 a few meters from the point he stuck to it and never assisted him lol (thats what the rage in chat was about).
- The warrior in our team just pushed far and later close all game and died instantly vs everyone 1v1.
Despite that they both played horribly, they got the win vs a team that had tournament level and former top 3 player Blue Berry in it.

yes – but they should start to bring the FUN
spvp atm is annoying and frustrating. Arenanet guyz are very creative and good programmers but they dont know/care about fun in this game when design something
something cool like this new map 3v3 with gold would be a start
just 3 buttons “Join for 1g” “Join for 2g” “Join for 3g” and jump in everone pays same at start and winner team gets all
done – dont need ladder or mmr or whatever – just fun^^
