An example of why the 25 sword cap works
The only bad part in my opinion is that you can stealth golem rush… Aside that, everything seen’s ok.
On side note: Call Ehmry Bay Ebay… Everytime you say EB i auto think about Eternal Battleground and then comes the “wtf is he saying” moment…

say those winning by ~50k points by Tuesday.
if it was an organised guild group of EBay, than they could do that before to be honest.
I don’t see the real benefit of the change if we’re talking organised guild attacks.
They tried not to make swords anyhow, and could be at the inner unseen before this patch too.
And that too forced the defenders to split up forces, so that’s not new either.
The real change is for those attacks where you can’t avoid attacking, not for the organised guild runs against doors…

You could stealth golem rush before as long as the pugs wouldn’t attack the door.
I enjoy the Sword cap being removed, it means a 20 man squad is much harder to detect.

in the tier below you orange swords never happen

head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
It’s bad. This morning my server had about 20 people on the map, trying to retake garrison from maybe 15 defending. No commander on the map. For 30 minutes every person that came into WvW had no idea where the fight was and asked the same darn question about where to go, what is going on (probably more didn’t bother to ask and just left because it looked dead, no markers on the map). Got really old after about the 10th time in 10 minutes to repeat to each new person where to go.
In the old system, they’d simply have seen the orange swords denoting the back and forth skirmish that was going on in the field north of the garrison, and naturally gravitated over there.
It was a major hassle and hindrance and detracted from the gamemode and from getting players engaged and fighting each other.

You need more commanders then…
Get your guild to start a collection to buy you one!
Swords are a good idea in general but they’re implemented poorly. Orange swords should be dps/damage based, not based on the number of players in the area. If a wall or gate is taking damage above a certain dps threshold (i.e. lots of siege equipment/golems) the orange swords should go up no matter how many players are delivering the damage. If the wall or gate hits 50% orange swords should go up regardless.

White swords are usually a sign of enemy activity (even the darn thief hitting the door). If you look at the map a see a lot of white swords and assume there is no activity, well my friend, i think you’re ninja’ed a lot…

It requires people to do things that have 0 rewards and are intrinsically boring. Sentrying is only fun if your objective actually gets attacked. Sit in a keep for 2 hours while no one attacks it and see how much you like the change. All the people saying how white swords serve the same function have no idea what they’re talking about. It takes 3 thieves to contest every objective on the map. Good luck making heads or tails of that.

Think the swords had actually dropped for a while, but even if they were there, they were on garrison, and a player just coming in spawning at the citadel has to make a choice. If he choose the wrong direction he just wasted several minutes to port back and go the right way. Thus every single player having to ask when they entered the map.
The majority of the tiers simply cannot support the 25 man limit except for a few hours in primetime.
I offered another solution if they think the orange swords are too easy, make it part of the upgrade system, to have to pay for better alerts. The NPCs need to serve a purpose, it certainly isn’t fighting or defending. If everything should be up to the players, then there should not even be silver swords.

Tell me how fun and rewarding is escorting dolyaks…

There are already things that are in this game that have no rewards.
Repairing walls,
Building defensive siege,
Escorting dolyaks
Even the things that do provide rewards, those rewards are often rather lackluster and shouldn’t be why you’re in wvw.
It doesn’t mean they are not required things.
And if you’re sitting inside the keep staring at the horizon instead of going out and roaming the terrain, that is your choice. The maps are small, an entire zerg is not just going to slip by you if you try to watch a keep and an adjacent tower/camp. ((Well, a zerg could slip past you, but I’d hope if you’re scouting you’re paying more attention than that)).

It isn’t. We shouldn’t be changing things to require more of it. That’s the point. The argument “there are already boring but necessary things in the game, so it’s okay to make more boring things necessary” is inherently flawed. How many of you arguing that this is okay actually will be the ones sentrying a keep? Not too many I imagine.
If it were fun then we’d have way too many people afking on keep walls.

That’s a pretty neat idea. Just like the NPC’s run up to you in PvE flailing there arms around that Jack So-and-So just got eaten by a Drake and he needs help saving him from the beasts belly RIGHT NOW. Maybe also allow the NPC some sort of quickness skill that they can use to try and get away from the zerg. A chase ensues. Can the attackers catch the sentry in time?

I escort yaks a lot.
like a lot a lot.
While escorting, I also act as a sentry for the keep or tower that’s being upgraded.
I see a LOT of action. Some days literally every yak is being attacked by 5+ people from SoR. Heck one day there was a literal Choo zerg dedicated to flipping camps and ganking our yaks.
People who think escorting yaks is boring have never faced a server that knows to gank them.
