For me the WvWvW has been a bit a of a flop I got an 80 engineer with exotic gear and I’m in a small be very competitive guild but there are some glaring things I really dislike about WvWvW in GW2

- Everyone looks the same the teams are mirrored and people regardless of their class pretty much look the same apart from the weapon, which for me makes it painful working out wtf your actually fighting sometimes..

- 5 man group limit with 100g cost for larger groups to me seems like a money sink to encourage people to send $$ on the game, why can’t we have 10 or 15 man groups? It’s an absolute pain staying with your group if you want to run with more then 5 people.

- When you die it is sometimes near impossible to regroup with your party sometimes you have to walk for 10minutes just to regroup if you manage to live.

- The maps are already getting stale since there is only really 2 maps.

- The whole executing thing I understand why its needed since the game doesn’t really have healers but its very annoying when you win a fight only to end up not getting the kill because someone else comes along and interrupts the finisher..

- The bag drops is just plain stupid having to run around spamming f to pick up bags, why can’t we get auto-loot in WvWvW? The game goes out of its way to make many boring logistical tasks easy but they put this mechanic in? Also the loot drops are pathetic.

- The WvWvW end game to me seems very week and not very epic this whole getting points for holding things and ending up the top of the ladder is all very academic to me, I’d rather see end game with real in game consequence.

- Keep fights are very linear and boring zerg fests this is something that could have been really interesting but they really didn’t do anything original with it..

- The best WvWvW gear is acquired via PVE mechanics which is a real pita if you don’t really enjoy PVE and purchased the game mainly for its WvWvW content this is a real pain..

- And lastly the server queue business annoys me to the limit seems to low and in prime time the queues can be very long..

- Edit Oh and one last thing… PVE MOBS HAVE NO PLACE in WvWvW

Anyway that is my list of grievances….

Finishers: It doesn’t matter if you get the “killing blow”. That’s meaningless in GW2. If you did damage you get credit and a chance at loot. Also, don’t finish if there’s more than a handful of people attacking, just auto attacking them down is faster.

WvW does have in-game consequences. Hover over the WvW button at the top left. See all those bonuses? They really start to become substantial at higher scores.

The simple answer to running with more than 5 people (which I assume is a guild rather than a zerg?) is voice comms.

Server queues are of course highly dependent on your server, time of day, and even how well your side is doing. Generally foreign border maps have the shortest queues, hit those first and then queue for your preferred map from inside.

My biggest problem with WvWvW at the moment is that my guardian is my favorite character, and highest level and best geared, but to try to play a melee class in a ranged AOE spam fest is extremely frustrating and pretty much useless. =/ Idk if i’m just a bad guardian and i’m doing something wrong, but i have to get on my low level elementalist just to try to get anything done.

I think you just have to rely on not only having but too many people just all together.

It was bad to rely on having 8 people before but now you have to rely on having 100?

I wonder how wvw would be with a 50 person cap (More strategic possibly, outmanned would be a lot less of amounts of people outmanning you, and a lot less of the invisible people should be going on, due to que times this should also start to even out the servers more).

I also do not like the way we can join multiple guilds, no loyalty to a guild at all you just join all of them or whatever, then when it comes down to it you really aren’t in one at all, I heard yesterday someone saying hes in like four guilds but all guild chats get not many responses due to this.

The loot was really terrible unless you are attacking some of the pve in there which even then its not that great like all drops.

The commander needs to be done better and use an autogrouping system.

WvW is a very casual format to begin with by it’s design and should not be taken as serious as some players are trying to take it. It’s like trying to take your weekly swim in the pond seriously.

I must’ve missed the sign that said it was a fire sale.

Yeah I understand this but think of this scenario for a moment your roaming around solo and you run into an enemy player you fight them and down them with say 20% health left to go.. No you go and try to finish them which can be a pain whilst your doing this someone else comes along and kills you both.. I guess what I am getting at is there are to many steps to actually kill someone and well the killing part is the gratifying part for me but the finisher move is one to many barriers for me.. This also makes it impossible to get kills from keep walls when your defending..

Yes of course vent helps but we need more tools for example in Warhammer there was some mods where you could put icons on top of your group members name tags to keep track of people.. With this 5 group limit if your running with say 10-15 guildies I also loose track of my guild mates since the gold colour blends into the red name tags in large fights, at the very least couldn’t they make your guild members dots on the mini map a different colour. Also whilst I’m on this point why don’t they tell you which battle ground they are in when you look in the guild roster.

WvW is a right mess atm. A lot of ppl are seeing this as the end game, get to level 80 get your items then just WvW but since level 1 players can go in there this is where it’s sort of all gone wrong. Many WvW guilds ( playing the game just for WvW ) are trying to get into the maps to help their server so they have geared up and ready to rock n roll but are being stopped by the lowbies, there isn’t nothing wrong in this but it is keeping those who will help out a lot more to those who basically go around hanging in the zerg and not really doing anything and still gaining xp and karma for it. Not so long ago i saw 5 players just hanging around the portal killing those mobs that spawn close there while real WvW players were stuck in the queue, in beta loads of the testers were telling Anet to get rid of most of the mobs to stop this but they never listened.
Lag is a massive problem, your running around then suddenly your in the middle of a sodden zerg, players with all kinds of specs of computer are having these problems, enemies and mobs just appear in front of you even putting the game on low settings and with high char distance it still does it. This happened in beta also and was not corrected.
Anet tells us to transfer to bottom ranked servers….well i can tell you this it does not help one tiny bit, queues are everywhere.

What we do know is that somewhere someone from Anet placed a comment saying they are working on “a fix” but can’t say what atm nor when it will be ready by, i really hope they add a Daoc style frontier where unlimited number of players can enter and the zones were massive ( probably 3x the size of the 4 maps put together for 1 zone and there were 3 of them). I’d keep the ones we have atm also just that would be better for small time action maybe used for more guilds v guilds stuff. I don’t think that will happen but lets hope the fix is a good fix and it comes soon.

So:
-“walking is a pain”: well, thats the point, there has to be some difference between those that spend tones on upgrading keeps than those that dont spend a penny, if you want to move faster, build waypoints. that will pay off in the future cuz you can move large groups of ppl faster.
-“finish em off”: maybe is not that much of a needed mechanic but man, it is satisfying to cruely stomp ppl after a 10 min fight with that mesmer…well you get the picture.
-“squads”: yes i think parties should allow more members, because even if you have voice comm, is much easier to see ppl in the map.
-“mobs have no place in wvwvw”: agreed, but jumping puzle doesnt either, wvwvw is pvp, so let the blood run!!
-queues are too long on the server, i started playing off in desolation,and you would have 4 or more hours queus, so bcuz of that i moved to ruins of surmia, in which up to the date i havent queued not even once yet.(bcuz is an underpopulated server that too)

well thats my opinion. also a quick offtopic thing, i think servers should be matched not only for score but population as well, i mean, we fight a german server that has a ton more ppl than we do. yesterday we managed to get a 70 ppl mass zerg, and we thought, we rock, but then..kitten 120ppl german zerg wiped us all. i mean, i get wvw is unbalanced pvp, but really, we should at least get a chance.

My major concern is that server population is the most important factor in winning the match. This week my server (Dragonbrand) is matching against Jade Quarry and Crystal Desert. We have absolutely no chance of winning JQ because they simply outnumber us by a great number. It is disheartening when you see your zerg have 20s while they have upwards of 50s.

Instead of using the current matching system, they should have paird servers with similar population. Only through that can you rank the servers by better skill and strategy, not by whichever having the most numbers.

Just to comment on Guardian gameplay -

I don’t play a guardian, but our main Guardian in our guild wrecks things. I think it comes down more to organization like all things in WvW. He, and other melee players, line up ready to run in, and at the same time we hit from a different direction confusing the enemy. I think he actually is leading the guild for kills atm, something like 7 or 8k in wvw.

Overall I understand some of the gripes people have about it, but theres not really much ANet can do aside from stop free server transfers. Problem is, people are dumb and lazy and would rather say their on the top server rather than play. We were on DB but moved to EB because we got tired of ques. I think my guild in general would rather have hair raising fights and win small battles but lose the war due to lower population then brag about being on whatever server is #1 when we don’t get to play, let alone all play together. Unfortunately theres just not really anything ANet can do for that mentality. Well, there is, that’s why there is also SPvP.

All in all I’m extremely impressed with WvW. It’s everything I hoped it would be, and the only real grip I have about it is large groups of people not showing up until your in the middle of them. yea theres lag, but when you have 100+ vs 100+ your just not gonna avoid lag entirely with current technology.

Well the way it stands now the servers who can put the most people on the field for the largest amount of time will win eventually they should get paired together to even it al out…

Use Scepter/Focus I think, be more support oriented, slap down Line of Warding (think that’s the one that reflects projectiles, great way to get credit for kills) to keep the enemy at bay or keep them from fleeing. Guardians are great in organised groups.

What?? Are you insane, we already have huge problems with populations on servers that are getting stomped in wvwvw and you want people to be losing cities? You wouldn’t even get to see it happen, you would just know they’re having a miserable time and the servers that have small populations/bad wvwvw teams would dwindle even more.
