Best roaming duo, WvW
Warrior isn’t a great option for this. They aren’t as mobile as other professions. Personally, I would go with tank ele/glass thief. Tank ele apply tons of CC and keeps the main focus, thief hides in stealth and bursts down players, and also finishes them. In the event that they run into a zerg, both have enough mobility to escape.
I may be a bit bias but D/D x2 ? ;D
I’d suggest mesmer, but they don’t have great escape ability.

I use a GS +S/Sh warrior and that really is quite manoeuvrable . You can disengage from large groups after unloading your burst. With the leg specialist trait is is very good for chasing and focusing down a single player. Conditions do cause trouble, but with your ele friend it really is less of a hassle. You can still use a warhorn when not in combat for running around the map.

Mesmer and Thief. The combined stealth options, teleportation/shadowstepping, and DPS are hard to defeat. Not to mention, Thieves’ Guild/Daggerstorm + Time Warp.

I agree with this. They have good synergy too.
With the Thief popping in and out of Stealth all the time, it leaves the Elementalist as the only permanent target to focus on. And as we know Eles can take quite a beating and kite around very well.
Do that while the Thief picks off the train 1 by 1 and you have a winning duo.

Thief and Mesmer
The Mesmer has illusions that makes it much easier for a due to fight against players, as they provide a lot of distraction. And with a staff, the Mesmer can give out more defense to the Thief. The Thief can provide stealth to make you sneak past areas, or to escape if everything goes bad, and can also add to the Mesmers illusions with thief NPCs. Thanks to all the distraction from the Mesmer, the Thief also has plenty of room to take players out without being spotted.
You can also solo camps quite easily with this due. The Mesmer can “tank” NPCs with illusions, while the Thief provides a higher dps with burst skills and thief NPCs.

You can think up many counters to that group but nothing else provides as much burst/bunker, healing, and mobility. Its an all around wonder duo.

your right warriors arent as mobile as other classes they are a lot more mobile…
D/D bunker ele + thief is great, but why sacrifice dps on one person for being tanky? Might as well just go two thieves because you will kill faster and have just as much/more survival in all situations, and you wont be stuck with someone that can’t stealth on their own.

Invis, multi-targets, porting, healing, burst, cc, underwater approved.
The good thing about Thief + Thief is even if one dies, you can pretty much guarantee they will be stealth rezzed.
Thieves dont match up well against some classes, especially d/d. The ele fills a lot of holes and acts as constant pressure and a distraction that allows the thief to set up burst better.
Weve wrecked some high end thief duos as thief/ele. The class combo is just better.

The weren’t good if they let you wreck them. I agree that dd/ele is a more overall effective combo though, but not if your purpose is strictly ganking people.
Shatter mesmer + stealth thief
Shatter mesmer provides huge dmg with good survivalibity, what is more clones distract enemies making picking up targets easier for thief. When mesmer dies thief can resurect fallen comrade and continue trolling without running from waypoint. Its funny sometimes when you die as a mesmer in a keep/tower etc. and thief resurect you;)

I couldn’t imagine running around without our shatter mesmer and his 10k aoe shatters, built in stealths + distortion + blurred frenzy + moa/timewarp/mass stealth
Often we can hear him call out 3 incoming players and start running over to him only to see 2 of them downed and the 3rd at 10% hp while he’s comfortably sitting at 90% hp and evading everything between dodges/distortion/stealth/blurred frenzy/interrupts. It’s insane how amazing the class is at small scale combat.

lol, you’re kidding right? If not then please come solo roam or small group roam on your warrior here so we can introduce you to chill/cripple. Warriors are free kills in anything but a large zergball where they can killshot. RG likes them for the hammer train and that’s cool, but quite frankly warriors are pretty bad and we constantly try to get warriors here to level a class that’s actually good and useful and gear them out to make the reroll easier. Warrior burst is the most predictable in the game, they have terrible design, no synergy and other than clunky lolregen banners and terribly scaling healing shouts (which are bad except for fear me and it’s 20 year cooldown)…
They’re just bad, if every warrior would just reroll to a guardian then the group would benefit so much more. Until then it’s fun to roll over them and take their badges.

all i said was they have more mobility the a lot of other classes…not if they were good or bad….i havent played my warrior in a while but when i did i ran GS and S/B which gives u 3 movement skills and 4 when i ran bullrush…
There are two Warrior main hand builds that absolutely destroy people, Warrior’s CC is also one of the best counters to a D/D Elementalist.
Are they great for solo/duo roaming? Not at all.
Are they often the class that most easily can break the lines of your opponent? Absolutely.
Edit: I’ll also add that if you pick a fight as a Thief or Elementalist and run away, you may not have died but you did lose.

Thief and Ele are the best two obviously. If its organized group with voice I think Thief/Ele has best potential.
That said, from my experience where I have randomly teamed up with a ele haven’t been impressed with the ele. The best experience I have had is with thief/warrior. Could come down to skill or gear though.

Zergs are mindless. Just have the Ele dance around for a bit and keep the Zerg running in circles. When the thief sees an opportunity, the Ele needs to dive head first into the zerg, maximum distraction, while the thief goes for the target, burst it down, and spike it. Rinse and Repeat.
I’ve done the above before, and as long as both players can do their part, it works nearly without exception. I was the D/D Ele, and toying with 10-20 people isn’t a problem. When you dive into them, they all go kitten mode thinking they are about to +1 their kill count.
Thief/Thief works well too, but if you run into the wrong player, then you could both get dropped pretty quick.

must be fighting really bad ppl…everytime im on my ele im constantly getting immobilized…even running cleansing fire and ether renewal doesnt seem to be enough sometimes
^ a leg specialist GS +S/Sh warrior makes eles so much less manoeuvrable. Keep them immob/snared and they can be focused really quickly in a group situation.

*It’s actually only partially a joke though, there’s so many thieves roaming around permastealthing off of doors/supply stacks, etc that just about any time you THINK you’re fighting a duo BAM 13k+ steal>cnd>backstab>HS combo. Sometimes if you’re lucky the thief will actually be visible for a split second above your corpse before restealthing thanks to culling.

Cleansing Fire, Lightning Flash, and Mist Form.
If you get caught four times within the cooldown of these skills, then you’re not doing it right. If no cooldowns are used, a decent D/D Ele “should” be able to escape from any situation regardless.
And of course, there are some players that will catch you with your pants down. But if this is happening everytime…

Just to add something different it feels like the game at the 1v1, 2v2 level is really rock/paper/scissorsy. Its hard to notice unless you run into the same people with a different setup.

Well, just look at the Thief / Mesmer / Ele bragging videos that are about slaughtering Engineers/Rangers/Warriors/Necros in an outnumbered fashion by stacks of hundreds and find out what could possibly be the best duos.
I roam with an Engineer, a class that I’ll love forever, we are well prepared for duels but don’t have the mobility to catch the most popular roaming classes. I felt epic the few times I handled 1 vs Many situations just to find out that Thief / Mesmer / Ele can pretty much do that blindfolded with both hands in the back.
check out the videos on the thief forum. there are a few showing one thief successfully fighting 2-5 others. pretty clear which class excels as a soloer in wvw.
