We just had a keep ninja’ed by 12 siege golems using mesmer portals. I know this has been happening a lot. I have heard from chat that this is an exploit, because golems were not supposed to be able to use mesmer portals.

Can a dev please clarify whether or not portaling golems is an exploit?
Is this a bannable offense?
Should we be reporting players who do this?

Curious, myself. It was like the scene from Monty Python’s Holy Grail where the Frenchman looks away and does a double-take of the trojan rabbit, except with 12 siege golems and reinforced gates falling in 20 seconds.

The HoD/SBI/ET match has been so messed up.

I hate to break the news, but Golems using portals is working as intended…

Mesmer portal is currently the most important and powerful ability in WvW without a doubt.

Those poor HoD got screwed out of 12 gold… all that work and the keep lord was bugged. It was kinda funny, but I did feel bad for um.

Why on earth would anyone think this is an exploit?

What’s next, are people going to cry about teamspeak being an exploit?

I’m not whining about anything, Scribbles. I’m asking for information. If this is how it should work, that’s fine by me. I just want to know based on more than hearsay.

Defend your kitten properly and you can get rid of any amount of golems no problem.

Don’t cry “exploit” everytime you get outsmarted or outplayed. Your defense obviously was bad, and you should feel bad.

To clear up my point of view: Why the HELL would that be an exploit. Makes no sense whatsoever.

@OmegaAngel: you can’t compare the two situations. that exploit gave SOME people a personal gain, and it was obvious it was a bug. they abused it and got banned. simple as that. anyone can use mesmer portals with golems. so you can maybe say its imbalanced and needs change, but its definitely not an exploit. (i’m obviously not an ANet employee, but this is the way I see it and it seems to be pretty crystal clear to me…)

the whole portal is an exploit, doesnt matter if the golem joins it too…

I don’t really have an opinion on whether golem porting is an exploit or not, but my initial comment was towards the one above me. Just cuz it’s not forbidden doesn’t mean it’s allowed. whether it’s a clear exploit or not don’t think that since you haven’t been told not to do something in this game that you won’t be held accountable for it. besides not everyone abused it and they still got a temp ban.

David, if you read my post, you will see I was asking a question, not making a statement. I just want to know whether the game’s programming should allow an Alpha Siege Golem to activate the Use Portal command on a Mesmer portal. The answer to that is either true or false. Please keep this thread informative and productive.

OmegaAngel, that is my concern. I would like to see this issue clarified so everyone can be on the same page. From the chatter I’ve heard, the devs said they were going to fix it somewhere. If they say something is broken and that it will be changed, that makes it a bug. Taking advantage of a bug is exploiting.

If this is intended, then having that stated from an ArenaNet source would let teams devise Golem / Portal tactics without worrying about bans. There are some real questions about balance here, which is why I think the question is warranted.

If it is allowed, I would like to try it myself. If it is a bug, I don’t want to give our team an unfair advantage by exploiting an error. Stormbluff has a code of honor to uphold.

Use your heads people. The game has been in internal testing for years. THREE beta weekend events, and months since launch. Portals have been utilized to ferry golems since the first one was built and people saw how slow it is, and that it cannot be hasted.

It is working as it was intended. Should they revisit that at a later date they will.

Should let engineer tool kits fix siege equipment.
