Finally someone find a counter to alt-f4
Um… This is basically the complete opposite of how to succeed in a free market capitalist system. The manners part is fairly true, but the other two only hold you back from achieving your full potential in the financial world. One of the biggest disservice to our youth is that people still fill their head at a young age with the nonsense you’re spouting instead of preparing them from the onset to the reality of the world.
Financial World =/= Competitive Life
Has no one mentioned the culling/lag issue? He was probably owned by 5 people and never even saw it coming until it was over.
Also, the Alt+F4 issue seems to be getting worse. I’m finding it done more and more. And, I’m not even maxed out or a glass cannon build. If I’m planting a stake in you, I earned it!
exactly. one good cheat deserves another. if a thief is cheating with perma stealth he deserves to get alt-f4’d every time.

One time I alt f4’ed someone before I stomped them , reloaded my client waited in queue went back to the person still downed and then stomped him before they could alt f4 leaving them confused crying wtf I was suppose to alt f4 True story
I’m going to keep logging out until Anet says we can’t. If 10 people chase me around for five minutes just to get a kill, I have no problem denying them that kill.
Btw, you don’t actually alt f4; I don’t know why people keep saying that. All you have to do is hit escape and go to char select. Couple loading screens and you’re back in wvw good to go. Doesn’t take long at all.

It sounds like the player who stomped the OP was either using haste, or more likely since the patch, it was lag.
Either way, Alt-f4 bad = form.
perma stealth is bad form too.
Logging out in order to deny an enemy loot, badges and possibility of rallying nearby downed enemies is not trolling or rage quitting. It is a valid tactic, in fact any side that doesn’t have a queue should consider this a benefit for being outnumbered, one they should use as often as possible. Those of you crying about it and moaning how this is an exploit are missing the point. What have people been told when they complained about opposing servers having players from different time zones take over the entire map while everyone else slept? “Suck it up, this is war.” What about when people complained about a blatant misuse of AOE limitation to five targets by zergs turtling across the map? Or using mesmer portals to take advantage of the culling issue to attack the enemy? Or when entire teams from opposing servers camp jumping puzzles just so they can gank everyone else in it? Thats right, this is pvp and destroying the enemy by any means is all fair game, as well as denying the opposing side the badges and siege equipment. After all, “this is war.”
So how is logging out is any different? It is not an exploit, it is coded into the game on purpose. Because it is unsporting? As if rolling over your enemy with a zerg several times their size is very sporting. If I drop and there is no queue and there is only a slim chance of me being rezzed and if there is no tactical advantage for me to remain where I am, such when defending a keep. Then I will log off, relog and be back in the game in 5-10 seconds. Same results as if I was staked, but sans repair cost to me and any reward for my enemies.

Skye also supports orb hacking, wall jumping, flying, and mesmer clipping. “This is war!!!!!”
No, I don’t. Don’t put words into my mouth. There is a very clear difference between intended functionality and hacking. I am merely pointing out the fallacy of these “hard-core” pvpers crying about being denied kills when they are perfectly fine with every other instance of unfair play, misuse of game mechanics and general poor sportsmanship because you know “this is war.” But deny them some loot and cue the whining.

For me ur just a coward, i would say learn to play if u think that all that is meant to be like that, and yeah it is war and for me u do me a favour cause anyone like u that loggs out to not pay repair are mostly noobs cant afford some silver for repairs? or better yet, u think ur bag of loot will matter anything to me? do u imagine how many bags of loot any real wvwer loses cause they die in a zerg and theres lots of loot to pick up? Pls quit WvW ur a shame and anyone else that think they are so pros by doing that.
Worse than doing it is saying were good by doing it… only reason i post here.

See Exhibit A for the idiocy I am talking about. Please sir, put your kitten back in your pants. Us cowards are just terrified of it.
Idiocy? i have more important things than worrying about some idiot that loggs off, but when i read forum and see that some even think they are awsome by doing so… yeah ur a coward and glad u admit it. At least that.

Are you advocating then that fair play, sportsmanship and manners have no place in a successful long-term personal relationship?

So logging out is cowardly, but zerging someone(s) down with a massive numerical advantage is brave and honorable.
I’ll make you a deal, if we ever meet up and I’m running around solo and you’re in a zerg (which, from the sound of it, is always), make sure only one person fights me at a time. Tell everyone else to keep going or wait their turn. If you do that and I die 1v1, I promise I won’t log out.
You may say this is wvw, it isn’t a 1v1 setting. Getting zerged down is part of the game. Well guess what, at least for now, logging out is part of the game, too.

I’m thinking of a real life comparison:
The solo soldier is a scout, and an enemy force comes across him by surprise. The scout stomps his foot and demands to fight his way, 1v1, through the entire army before either side is allowed to go on his way. It’s only fair right?
Reality: Enemy zerg will want to deny his enemy any progress the scout/soloist might make. Firing off one hundred rounds from one hundred guns to ensure the scout doesn’t escape is a legitimate use of resources, and should be a good cost/benefit scenario to not allow an entire force (needing to be somewhere else) to be slowed at all by one enemy soldier.
Fanciful dream of dreztina’s: In reality, the scout could just throw his arms up in the air and shout “Ok! You’ve got me. I give up. I’ve quit the army. I’m going home. There’s not even a need to use those one hundred bullets.”
Fortunately for you this game isn’t hard reality. Fortunately for everyone else, the devs see right through you and will eventually alter the code to put an end to the nonsense.
That was fun.
The more you people moan on forums the more I logout, your tears sustain altf4. I made up a fun game where Id logout anytime Im down each day I see a person moaning about it on forums. Logging out daily for past 3 months now, keep it coming guys.
making someone alt+F4 make me more happy then get the loot from it ! its just soo…. soo… kids mentality..
keep it up guys.. and hope you enjoy loading screens

It’s absurd to say that alt-f4 is part of the game, it isn’t. There’s a reason why when you die and have to do repairs and drop loot bags. That’s the game mechanic. It isn’t a contest to see who can hit alt-f4 the fastest. You want to grief others because A-net hasn’t plugged the hole? Fine. But don’t pretend it’s a valid tactic, it’s just poor sportsmanship and you’re reflecting poorly on your server, and if you sport a guild tag, your guild.
It doesn’t matter if you get zerged down, or if you’re fighting 1v1 or 1v2 or 2v2, you are abusing an issue in the game that needs to be fixed. If you got or chased down by 10 players, that’s because you were running around solo like an idiot in an environment full of enemies. If you got zerged down while with others, the fact is that you could have been in the opposite situation with larger numbers on your side.
Don’t pretend for a minute that Alt-F4 is a permanent game feature acting as welfare for your repair bill for you because you don’t understand how to play the game. The same logic could be used to justify orb-hacking or glitching through walls before those were explicitly stated as being exploits, but that doesn’t mean that any of those abuses were valid.
Sounds to me like you’re just another player with an inflated ego who thinks they can walk into WvW and start 1v1ing people. Well, that isn’t what this game is. Nor is it hitting Alt-F4 because your game plan didn’t work out. If you want to keep up what you’re doing, whatever. Just don’t act like you’re not totally out of your element.

Skye, you really believe logging off is coded into the game so that you can save yourself the repair bill? I cry foul. This isn’t a gray area like any of the issues you named, this is explicit repurposing one game function (logging out) for another purpose (avoiding death in combat). As for zergs, this is a team sport. You ever played one, or did you rage quit when someone passed the ball to his friend because that was unsporting? Only difference is that it’s not supposed to be balanced teams 100% of the time, but that’s very clearly supposed to be part of the game.
But in case you really don’t understand, I’ll explain it to you. Let me know if there’s anything you don’t get, I know this might be really challenging to comprehend so I’ll try to put it in simple terms! The reason why logging out exists in this game is so that we don’t have to leave Guild Wars 2 running on our computers 24/7. I know this is extremely difficult to grasp, but bear with me. Running Guild Wars 2 places a load both on the client and the server, so it’s useful often to turn it off. As well, if you’re in WvW, that means you’re taking up someone’s slot while you’re AFK! Additionally, there’s a character select feature, so that you can play alt characters if you want to try different classes and races. Neither of these features were put in place as substitutes to you paying your repair bill. Any questions?

sounds like lag to me, there is a kind of lag when the game tries to catch up you see everything in fast forward
It seems like all the people who are fine with players alt-f4ing use the argument that the other player will be out of WvW for 5-10 mins while they wait through starting their client up, loading screens, and queues. Seriously, what kind of kitten computers do you guys have? My client starts up instantly, loading screens are about 3-5 seconds long, and tier 3 currently has no queues in any map meaning that over half the servers have no queues. If someone alt-f4s before you kill them I would guess they could be back at your location in under a minute depending on how far of a walk it is.

im pretty sure they will lose at least 30+ second just for clicking icon, going true login window then character select, loading PVE – porting to battleground. And after that they need to go on their place where they want to be.
So.. ye, of course it is fast.. but still i will be fine wiht that.
To me, only kids are ragequiting and as i said before, making anyone to alt+F4 make me more happy then only stomp him. I dont care, if this is how they want to play.. then be it..
today ive seen people log off even before going down. I know they didnt stealth or anything because when I crippled them they stopped running(esc and looking for logout button) and stood there for couple seconds and disappeared.
This is getting funnier everyday. Seriously people want to log out requeue for a border just to avoid death?
ahaha
I don’t need badges or loot – and I have plenty enough for repair costs because I’m not a total scrub who gets downed 200 times a day
Watching noobs alt-f4 is hilarious.
I do feel bad for how terribad the alt-F4ers are sometimes, but really it’s too funny to watch them reach for that button in rage and fear.
I imagine it being some overzealous 12-year old kid, moist snot dripping from his red nose, whimpering to himself and hastily spamming alt-F4 when big baddie opponent downs him for the n-th time that day xD
We’ve all seen the angry german kid video, that’s the alt-F4 guy in action
(edited by xiv.7136)
I think this is really unimportant. I die all the time in WvW (because I am terrible), and I never use alt-F4. On the rare occasions when I am going to kill someone, I don’t care if they close their game. I don’t think anet should try to control when/how people shut down the game. At the most, just give credit to any attackers if a player alt-f4s and let the poor guy avoid repair costs.
If there were forums during the Revolutionary War, this is what the British would have sounded like when raging about Americans using guerrilla tactics and not facing them the ‘honorable’ way on an open field. War is dirty, and until this is fixed, expect it. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Keep feeding the trolls by justifying it with your “rage-quitting” and “coward” posts, though. If anything, I have satisfied smug smile on my face when I do it. Every single time.
It’s extremely satisfying when you’ve made a gang of people chase you across a map and know that you’ve denied them anything to show for their troubles. Even tastier when it helps your teammates flip a supply camp that otherwise would have been defended.
It’s extremely satisfying if you’ve run back over and over and over and over from spawn to whittle away at all their shiny siege without giving them any badges to buy more or having to pay a dime on repairs.
But keep telling yourself it’s rage and fear.
8/10 great work
Pretty sure this will be addressed soon do enjoy it while u can baddies.
