Gentlemanly agreement?
problem is for the T3 servers if they DONT crush the T7 server they will lose rating.

That would be nice . . .

The old rating system is irrelevant now though, right?
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
While theoretically that is a great idea. Practically it will hurt more than it will help, as the hypothetical t7 server will have a better score than it should, which will result in more mismatched fights int he coming weeks (due to the system and not randomness).

It is the exact same system with a bit more randomness in it.
its still relevant because it determines what set of servers you can be matched against.

So crush the T7 server and send them to T8 so they can have a lopsided win the next week?
I’m not saying hands-off, but traditionally when you have this situation, it turns into a land-grab by the other two servers on who can faceplant the third the most. Usually you end up with manned ballistas at the exit doors of their citadel.
I’m just saying leave the odd man out’s BL to PuGs or small groups. Don’t send your mega-zergs.

BIT? A BIT? It’s T O T A L L Y random. Insane!

Lets face it, the t7 server is going to get crushed in score no matter what.
But it doesn’t have to be a morale killing crushing. There can still be good fights doing what the op said. I support it 100%. If this situation occurs in my NA tier, I will do everything I can to make it happen.

How is 2 T3’s vs a T7 a BIT random? It makes no kitten sense.

Unfortunately, no.
Rating is used to determine matchups like before just with a randomized factor within certain bounds.
Should a higher rated server not perform against a much lower rated one, it is certain that server would lose rating, likely alot of it.
While not really a problem per se, but it will likely contribute to further volatility down the line as the underperforming (possibly deliberately tanking) server is matched against even weaker opposition in the future – will a roflstomp as the result.
For the health of global wvw scene, it is probably best not to have such skewed matchups as it likely demoralizes large portions of the casual playerbase.
And ultimately, the casuals are what keep GW2 running and free.

the first week will have a lot of randomness due to them having to effectively fill in parameters that their system did not have to deal with before. Sure it will appear totally random, but that should go away with time. I know famous last words
I still think it’s best to NOT display cumulative totals for scores, just the current ppt.
Helps with morale and allows players to play for the NOW, increasing engagement.
NOTHING kills morale and participation like feeling your efforts are futile.

That I can agree with completely.
Thanks for the explanation guys, didn’t realize they were still using the old rating system on top of making it more random.

I thought servers were kinda locked I within three tiers t1-t3, t4-t6, etc…. So that things wouldn’t be too lopsided?

But it is easy to see the culmunative scores in game. Are you suggesting a change in the interface or the web page displaying the scores.

I know in the Glicko Samurai culture that these words are heresy, but I’d rather go down in rating from doing the honorable thing, than maintaining our rating by kicking the dog.
Yes, that could end up exacerbating the situation the following week (facing two underpowered servers); but I honestly don’t think the casual population will ignore the lower pop server and will sort that out on their own.

Yes, remove the cumulative total ppt display both ingame and on mos.millenium.
There may be an issue with regards to some players needing to know who “won” the matchup, especially in the previously static tier system.
However, with the new random factor in matchup pairings “winning” or for that matter “losing” a matchup is even less of a issue than it currently is.
