As I see it one of the things that starts to happen is that as one server starts to win the others start feeling like they shouldn’t bother with the whole thing. The problem then starts to be that once a server starts to win it’s very hard to turn around. I feel that if we gave greater incentives for people to join in while their sever was loosing we could make much more interesting battles.

Why not simply buff rewards for loosing servers? Not stat increase but just more karma and exp.

This way when I’m in PvE and I look at the battleground and my server is doing horrible my response wont be “Why should I even-” but rather “Cha ching!”

Ok, I’m older and when we were growing up there were winners and there were losers. You didn’t get an award for being there, or just showing up, or just being in the area with a pulse.

You won or you lost. You learned from your mistakes and improved. You worked harder. You tried harder. You organized better.

You win or you lose. That was the American philosophy. Now everyone wants something, even when they lose.

What?

Yea you know what sucks about America (And I live there) The more money you have the easier it is to make more. It’s a game where when you win it makes it much easier to win again and when you loose it becomes a downward spiral. Not fun.

Who really just wants to stomp the opposition without resistance? Why should a game get easier as you play?

Maguuma had the problem for awhile and yes you’ll always lose those pve players when you’re losing but we showed that sometimes it’s better to persevere which we showed last week against Darkhaven where we were 40k points behind and challenged them all week and were able at one point to get within 1k points of overtaking there lead. Find a way to show your server that even when you’re down you shouldn’t be out.

It’s not that the game is easier to play, it’s your team is not doing their job. Your teams population, lack of willpower, skill and organization is making the game harder to play.

And about your statement. I was poor in my early 20’s. I worked very hard to get where I am today. Apply yourself to the fullest and work hard to achieve your goals.

Ok dude, you wanna talk RL socioeconimic philosophies, I am more than willing to do that elsewhere. I think we were talking about a video game.

This, I feel, is a valid concern. Because our server (as I’m certain with every server) has many very dedicated guilds with many dedicated players who don’t give up just because you’re not winning by sunday night. Unfortunately, all but the biggest guilds just can’t win a war on their own. The most effective guilds are not just the ones that organize internally, but the ones who work with the pugs and randoms as well. Even if the entirety of the most dedicated 25 man guild played 12 hours a day 7 days a week, they still wouldn’t be able to make up the point difference alone. Every server lives and dies by its pugs just as much as by its organized guilds.

The pugs are who need incentivised. WvW has always been touted a being casual friendly, and the fact is, that most casuals won’t fight a hopeless looking uphill battle for its own sake. Do I need motivated to keep fighting on wednesday night when we’re going to clearly lose? No, but lots do. I would love to see some sort of mechanic that made even a hopeless match up more inviting for casuals. While I can’t think of any sort of spectacular way to do this, it’s not a bad idea. I don’t think the OP is worried about catering to “losers”. I would say he’s worried about catering to those who only hop on for an hour here and there, and who could swing a battle if only they felt that their in game time was best spent in WvW.

And for the record, the USA is one of the least economically mobile of industrialized nations, but you keep clinging to that exceptionalist raft.

The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real.

In real life you can’t transfer to a bandwagon server and become an instant winner by riding on the coat-tails of better or more dedicated players. WvW is screwed precisely because everyone wants free-wins. Then amusingly the same bandwagon server that did its best to get loads of new recruits starts whining about queues.

God, I love these forums.
You can always come on here to read someone’s ridiculous opinion and have a chuckle.

Edit: Point is, there is no improving. People just move server for easymode.

If having a bigger blob means victory then you will blob.

Sure you can, they’re called Miami Heat fans.

The tired old argument of working harder and improving does not imply here, it’s a straw man argument. This is not the real world, this is the escape from the real world.
People play video games for instant gratification, if I wanted to work hard at something to see long term results I’d go to the gym.

Either give incentives for losing/defending or people will not do it. It’s as simple as that.

Not an American philosophy at all. Pretty common actually across the UK and many other places.

Although I do agree, win or lose. It’d be nice if there was a small reward for winning (a few blueprints or something).
