Is this just an acceptable metagame tactic now, like culling? It seems pretty weak but I see more and more people using it. Is this what we do now when things don’t go our way?

At the end of the day, the person logs back in in LA, and either has to jump into a queue, or start back where they normally would. It spares a few silver, and people lose a few badges.

It should be fixed, but it’s honestly dumb.

F12 → change character should be more efficient than alt-f4…., but both are completely dumb. But I don’t think there’s anything Anet can do about it, whoever is willing to go through something so tedious to avoid a kill could also just exit through the task manager.

Also I think Alt-F4 is a Windows command so the game might not be able to bypass it.

Sure they could do something… Have characters persist for a minute or two after logoff/disconnect while in combat. Like every other pvp mmo I’ve played… :-\

Just do what other games do. When a player exits a game, don’t drop them right away. Let them sit there server-side for 15-30 seconds doing nothing while they relaunch the game.

This way, people can no longer alt-f4 out (as they’ll be mauled/defenseless). The down side is a handful of people will get murdered after disconnecting, on a consistent basis, and we’ll have complaints about that instead.

If someone alt f4’s I am happy because it way beats them respawning or getting ressed!

Is there really any reason to complain about it? You only miss out on a chance for loot, which should be considered as a secondary priority in WvW. Look at it as there are now less enemies in WvW to stop you capturing everything, if even for a short-while.

Fast game exit (in this case alt-f4) is an age old implementation in many past games. There is a term for it. Its called ‘Boss mode’. You know, while playing the game, your boss happen to enter the office. That is when you activate the ‘Boss mode’ and exit the game in split of a second. It has saved many careers and livelihood whose survivors have paid back by supporting the game industry years on years.

Pulling out the ‘Boss mode’ such as implementing a delay timer is going to kill many souls out there. Getting a job is hard these days. Players are going to spend less time on game without ‘Boss mode’. I ventured that games without ‘Boss mode’ has uneven play time distribution with huge peak off-office hour but minimal or virtually no player during office hours.

I am speaking in the interest of the game, and not in the interest of the bosses out there. So don’t start a discussion on whether it is right to play game on office time.
