Loot Bags to Chests
Is this not the place to complain about this? How can 60 people viewing the WvW thread not despise this atrocious loot bag system?
You are totally right. It is atrocious indeed. Has been told plenty of times too..
We would all wish for loot to go into inventory directly or another solution like you present. The way it currently works is a pain.
You lose your loot when you die.. you need to pick it up during fights in case you lose.. you cant ever jump down a ridge in case of lootbags dropping… you get loot bags every 3 seconds in a big battle and cant even carry on fighting .. you dont rez because you have to pick up the loots bags first.. could go on and on.
“Has been told plenty of times too..”
I searched the forum for “loot bag” and I couldn’t find a single post of people complaining about it :s
Maybe I just missed it, but all the talk about them I saw were things like:
“Glad that you had fun! I envy the amount of loot bags you have gotten. I’m sure I was one of those, hahaha!”
" my loot bag rate is terrible or I would have had screens haha 25+ kills 0 bags = proest thing ever hee hee"
probably got moved to suggestion section then :P i saw dozens of posts about this.
I’d like straight to inventory, but I definitely prefer the current model over the PvE one – just think what it’d be like to have to check every body’s death location to get your rewards.

It has been mentioned quite a few times before, at least you don’t have to run to an enemy’s corpse anymore to loot them like it used to be
Anet has basically stated that it’s not easy to implement a ‘loot goes to inventory’ type method in the current system so that’s not going to happen. People have suggested ‘workarounds’ but they have not responded positively to those as of yet, so I wouldn’t keep your hopes up about them changing it any time soon.
I personally love running around grabbing my loot bags after a successful battle, but on the other hand absolutely hate dying and seeing a ton of loot bags spawning right next to my corpse I’ve trained myself to quickly press F whenever I see the message pop up, but this does result in a fair amount of accidental banner pickups or ram usages.
I have a tip for players that have troubles with their lootbags because of death and so on:
Play Ele, get downed -> mistform -> run arround spam F -> A.) hope for rally to keep fighting / B.) die after collecting all lootbags
T.O.A.S.T. The Organsiation Against Server Transfers
Yeah, it’s a terrible system.
But, it’s better than it used to be, you used to have the bag drop at the body not at your location.
I can’t even imagine why this hasn’t been fixed/changed yet.

My girlfriend does play an Ele, however her mist form is specifically used to drive straight to my character screaming SAVEEEE MEEEE in my ear. At which point we often both end up dead without loot bags
Sad times, I really wish this could be a better system.
Yeah, it’s a terrible system.

I can’t help but think of the quote, “The technology isn’t there yet”.
But the software engineer in me can’t help but think that if they can read my players location to spawn it at my feet (Player object access?), why don’t they have access to my players’ inventory to place items there.. it’s quite frustrating indeed.
I honestly would prefer if it was like every other reward system in the game, so when I left WvW for the night I got a nice big glorious chest of loot to deal with and vendor the junk.
I think it’s been mentioned before: To the victor’s go the spoils.
Clearly we’re all playing a fantasy game here so some suspension of disbelief is required. With that being said, actually picking up your loot does provide a bit of “realism” to the game. As with any battle, you’ve got to remember to loot the bodies.
Yeah, it’s a terrible system.

I TOTALLY agree, I also have a programming degree…
The routines are ALREADY MADE to loot. It seems to me that all they have to code is On kill-run loot (f) routine: If bags full – run drop bag at feet routine.
I really laughed when I read that quote as well. I mean I’m not omnipotent and I don’t actually know for a fact how the system works internally. But the logical part of my brain says, “this is an easy fix they don’t wanna do for some reason.”

Auto looting badges is feasible IMO due to the nature of the item and it’s stacking size. Everything else is just laziness / garbage drops anyways.
(edited by Apok.1623)
I for one don’t want my bags auto filling up every 10 minutes with WvW craptastic items. Maybe it’s just me, but if not a selectable option, I/we would pretty much be forced to run to a merch/TP every 10-15 mins to clear the 95% junk that is dropped here.
Auto looting badges however is feasible IMO due to the nature of the item and it’s stacking size.
So what do you do now? Just leave the bags on the ground?

Agreed. It’s a complicated problem to solve as it touches a lot of broad systems, so I can’t guarantee it will happen soon, but I would very much like for us to alleviate this some way or another.

Snipe the badges, leave the garbage.
We wouldnt mind if our inventory is full.. if THEN loot bags just dropped to the ground.. would we guys? :P
So what do you do now? Just leave the bags on the ground?
Snipe the badges, leave the garbage.
So, you loot everything.
And instead of porting and selling, you manually go through your bags and drop the loot all the time?
Doesn’t sound like much of a difference to me. /shrug
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
There is an option in this game to manually select your loot, so when a bag is opened you select what you want :P then again I have enough gold to not have to care about selling blue loot for repairs, so maybe I am biased.
Auto-loot would last about maybe 2 zerg rushes (for those who don’t roam solo), depending on your tier, and would be about 15 minutes before you were full.
It’s not enough to have the carrot, now the carrot has to be automatically digested for ya’ll too.
Is it really that hard to not die when running with 50 other players and grab your bags on the return rush? J/W

Loot bags and chests gained from kills could be alleviated by placing a large chest that is spawned at your servers spawn on the map that you can collect your loot from whenever you please. The chest can open up like a bank-esque system where you can withdraw what you want a discard the rest. The chest does not disappear at log off, but rather is saved in case you need to quickly bail out of WvW. Badges would be treated as currency and instead of taking up a slot in the loot chest, they instead are represented just as gold is in a players personal bank.

I’ve seen loot bags barely sticking up out of the ground, sometimes I only see the sparkle. Very easy to miss. Had a few stuck so i couldn’t loot them.
Would very much like to have my loot direct to my inventory or if not possible to do that, have it appear in a chest at spawn.
You could even sell this as a option in the gem store and offer to increase the size through gem purchase like we do with bank and bag spaces.

This is a very cool idea. So long as it didn’t auto-discard my loot for me and just built up until I did something with it (and was withdraw only, no depositing), this would be amazing and would keep me from worrying about my loot bags after fights I am winning and during fights I’m losing.

Boasting about how much loot he gets and how soft we are to not want to press F all the time. Three thumbs up at least.
The bigger problem isn’t ‘spamming F to loot’ or remembering to do it, the bigger problem is playing miles from your spawn, fighting a long, hard fight, seeing loot bags all around you, chests in the distance and then… wiping. Never having the chance to loot is somehow worse than forgetting.
At the very least let us loot when dead. If in a defeated state remove the range limitation on looting and let players grab their rewards using a right-click. That would go some way to easing the ‘spam F or you might not get loot!’ issue.

Haven’t boasted about all the loot I get because I am selective of what I pickup, quite the difference and a novel concept. If you can’t be bothered to press F to get loot, you don’t deserve the loot in the first place.

Guis guis, we got a big man over ‘ere. He’s so pro he sees through the bag at the shinies. If it’s not shiny enough, no shiny is looted.
Selective you see.
He never wipes either. <insert skid marks joke here>

If it all goes to a quest chest; than you have that thing cluttering up you screen all the time…
I’m mostly ok with the bags, but a way to just summon all bags to me (maybe an npc at each waypoint?) would be wonderfull for missed bags/bags I stare at while dead.
Also if they lasted longer…

Would be better to simply get rid of loot other than badges which are automatically added to your inventory. I could care less about all the trash that people drop when I stab them. Almost none of it has any use.
I know it scks if u die when you see a lot of bags, but hey that’s the game..
If someone drops stuff it drops on the ground, not in your inventory.. you have to pick stuff up to get it.
I don’t know if its possible? But can you assign 1 key to multiple letters? like when u press 1 you also press F so you can swing your weapon and pick up possible bags.
I hate having to pick up loot bags during a fight. If you are looting then you are not fighting is the way I see it. As well there have been countless times when I have recalled from a massive battle only to have loot bags dropping at my feet while running back to the fight forcing me to stop, turn around and backtrack to grab it and continue running only to have another drop.
On the topic of loot does anyone else still have an issue when they click on chests to have nothing show up as being in that chest? I was under the impression that they had fixed that problem.

It was just one suggestion, I also said it would only appear after you left WvWvW, much like a daily being complete.
Thanks for participating in WvWvW! Here’s your reward!
Personally, I do not mind the current system. If you enjoy WvW, the badges add up fast anyway. I think I am sitting at 4000 badges with nothing to spend them on. Also, the current drops add a bit more strategy. Sometimes, I will see a bag that I left behind but would need to jump into an enemy zerg to get it. Is it worth it or move on? Those are fun decisions to make.
My issue is that other than badges, the rest of the drops are very poor. I have over 11,000 kills and I can’t remember getting anything good as a drop.

I don’t have quite THAT many kills, but I do believe I’ve gotten 1-2 rares from player kills. Unfortunately, I just grab bags and sell when I feel like my inventory is full, so it may have just been from a Lord or something.

i have 0 badges despite having some 18k kills… i use it all on siege. ive got several exotics from playerkills too, some sold at 7-8g (all that gold goes into siege too). experience varies :P i need every grey spike i can get to finance dropping 50 rams on one evening :P
I agree 100% that this is annoying. I’ve probably missed at least 1000 badges through the loot system. The pace of WvW really doesn’t let you pick up the bags that you miss as it is a constant combat. Going back to pick up bags often means that you won’t be able to participate in the next assault or that you’d run into 20 enemies who were running to the battle and arrived late.
Also as an occasional pug commander it also really annoys me to win a battle then see everyone going around picking up loot bags when I am trying to rush the tower in front of us before defenders get back. It takes a good minute to rally everyone back up after a major battle where by that time they are able to get their defenders to the tower that I wanted to take. It would be good if there was a loot all nearby key (maybe that can only be used out of combat if ANET thinks that we shouldn’t get the bags if we wipe) that would be really good. This also would let you pick up those loot bags that randomly drop while you are moving without falling behind.

Hello developer, is this a possible solution:
“Filter” items in inventory, when you have salvage kits in it. This option would enable following feature: every item of “x” rarity will get automatically salvaged as long as you have salvaging kits. I don’t know if it’s possible, but it’s an idea.
I don’t like picking up that flag when I’m hitting f for the loot during a fight.
actually picking up your loot does provide a bit of “realism” to the game. As with any battle, you’ve got to remember to loot the bodies.
Because it’s totally realistic for it to drop in front of me when somebody I hit before dies 1500 units away…
I don’t understand how somebody can actually argue against such a change. It’s not a critical one, it has nothing to do with combat balance or any other important game mechanic, it’s purely a quality of life thing. Looks like the people stating that others have to “l2p” think that the tedious annoyance of picking up loot bags is a sign of advanced player skills. Yeah. Right.

Also a good point. Among other things that you can accidentially use. It just distracts from actual gameplay.
There was a post a while back saying that the problem wasn’t about getting the items directly into your inventory, but that they didn’t have a way to solve the issue of when your inventory was full. In order to prevent you from becoming encumbered, there would have to be destruction of items, and you NEVER want the computer to auto-destruct your inventory. One bug and you might accidentally lose your most valuable items… can you imagine the tantrum people would throw if the somehow lost precursors or legendaries to a bug like this?
I find the currently looting method a tad annoying as well, but it could be a hell of a lot worse.

Thanks for the response. it does seem pretty simple though… If a loot bag is going to drop, just make the loot automatically go into my inventory. Problem solved.

Maybe they could just have the loot bag appear like they normally do after inventory is full. Give you an indication that you need to vendor. Then the bags can act as normal.

Well in that case, you’re right. The bags shouldn’t drop at your feet either. I’m not saying it’s a l2p thing. I’m saying, if that bag is important to you (or worth dying for), then go get it. If it’s not, don’t.
If grabbing loot bags are such an annoyance to everyone, then simply stop grabbing them. For the record, I too have lamented those sparklies lying on the ground around my body…
…for about 2 seconds before I respawn and move on.

You’re missing the point. The loot isn’t the annoyance. Making it a real pain to actually get what you legitimately deserve IS.
In WvW only, make bags only drop once you are out of combat and alive. That way, if you are too busy, once the actions cools off, the bags drop fr you. Or once you die, they drop when you waypoint to spawn. I notice this happens if I waypoint quickly after death.
Not perfect but is can be done. Or just hold them at the spawn with a 15 minute timer (or however long bags hang around these days).
JQQ
You’re missing the point. The loot isn’t the annoyance. Making it a real pain to actually get what you legitimately deserve IS.
So even though loot now magically floats to your character position after a tag/kill, hitting the f key is now stopping people from getting what they legitimately deserve? interesting, if you could kindly elaborate.
If you die, I really don’t believe you should be entitled to said loot anyways. Not because I am an “elitist” or “pro”, but because it forces you to make that critical decision;
If you want to risk running away from your loot bags, with the thought of getting to them after a “tactic” is completed, you should be aware that you might die and lose your “rewards”
If you want to run around collecting loot while your team is engaged, that’s your prerogative and decision to take yourself out of the battle to collect your rewards.
Ever play Dark Souls? :P
Endless dying, no looting, just rewarding to come out with what you have learned. Same applies for the most part in WvW, the loot isn’t anything to brag about, its all just repair money for the dedicated non-PVE WvW’r.
