Make dead players automatically respawn at their base.
This is not a zerg issue. It’s a participation issue.
Well it is a zerg issue. What is the point of building any siege defense what so ever, if a large mob (lets say 2 times more people on their server then yours) could just run all around and cap all your objectives without spending a penny.
What is the point of setting up cannons, arrow carts, balistas ets, if they will give your fort like 1 min more survival time while costing 2+ gold, and what will win is not the skill of the defenders and their dedication in building up their tower, but a simple question of numbers. they dont even need SUPPLY.
Sorry, but no. They just played smart.
What you should have done was have someone make runs to the nearest supply camp and run back to the base, repairing the gate. If they weren’t using rams like you said and were frequently interrupting their DPS to ress dead players then two (or possibly even one) person repairing the gate could have kept them at bay indefinitely.
Everytime they try and zerg res people if we have even 3 people defending at least 2 of those ressing him will die because we aoe the corpses. Eventually if they keep doing it they won’t have anybody left to res with.

1) You can not frequently interrupt their dps. Arrow carts die in seconds due to retaliation. Cannons last a bit longer but that it. Balistas and catapult last longer but not indefinetly. The more your defensive tools die, the easier it is for the attackers to res their teammates and the least your defense is effective.
2) There is no way you will run through a 30+ man zerg to your supply camp to get supplies. Sorry they will just kill you.
I agree that it was smart play … Your way you would be able to hold on to your conquest almost indefinitely with a small force of ppl. Maybe instead of trying to use just 10 ppl hold up inside the base to hold off an attacking force you use those 10 and 10 more to go out and actually take the fight to them and chase the zerg away while being backed up by your seige weapons etc. Just a thought. Maybe?

The reason I mentioned that strategy is because I have personally performed it and it works well. If you know how to play your class, set up your traits, and use your utilities, getting past a 30+ zerg is easily achieved.
Unfortunately, in my scenario, we lost our (not upgraded) tower because we only had three defenders against a huge zerg AND they were using three rams (which I destroyed with wall-targetted AoE). But we were able to delay them for a LONG time before they broke down our (not reinforced) gate.
Had I been in the situation that you were in (upgraded tower, ten defenders, siege setup) then I can pretty much guarantee that I could have done a supply run (probably just myself) repeatedly to repair the gate indefinitely. Don’t know if I can say that every class can do it. I’m a Norn Elementalist so I have walking invulnerability, stealth, and stun breakers. But I would be willing to bet that someone out of that ten was sufficiently skilled to have easily done it.

This is a good idea, but 1) You dont have 20 people in a tower defending it at all times. Usually there is 3-5 (and lots of time less). 2) 10 People will not pass through a blockade of 40. 3) Siege equipement like arrow carts and cannons will die in the first 1-2 mins with a 40 people group WITHOUT siege equipement. After that it people in the defending keep can just come out and fight.
My whole point is not about 40 people NOT capping 10 people defended tower. It is 40 people with NO SIEGE equipement are able to take down the vast majority of the tower defenses in several minutes, simply because there is no real way 10 people can reduce their number with siege equipement to survive long egnough for a small back up.
Here is the situation now:
Beginning (10 defenders + siege, 40 attackers)
severals minutes later (10 defenders, 40 attackers)
what you want is something like :
Beginning (10 defenders + siege, 40 attackagers)
several minutes later (10 defenders, 30 attackers).

I think the general frustration and point the OP was getting at, is that it is nearly impossible to get players back into a tower when it is under siege by a large force of 40+ invaders. While many of us know sound strategy, some servers may not have the numbers needed to counter such an offensive zerg.
The core issue I believe is how sieges work, how AOE abilities from players can bypass gates and enroach far back on any tower’s walls, thus negating siege defenses. I have seen countless sieges in which a guild or group of players have spent 2+ gold building defenses, only to have all their cannons, ballista, and arrow carts destroyed very quickly by simply AOE abilities from players. This does not make sense, siege equipment should be more resilient and make a difference in maintaining a tower / keep.
Lots of topics on this and I am sure Anet is aware of and seen all the current strategies being used which some players call exploiting, however it is not the player’s fault that some game mechanics make it an acceptable means to attack or defend.
This is something I do believe we will see addressed in time once Anet has their other priorities taken care of in terms of game stability, hacked accounts, etc, which is prob taking up the majority of their time right now.
