I’m currently on Maguuma and while I love people here, I’m simply not having much fun now that we’re in tier 3 and subject to Dragonbrand’s nightly “raids.” My friend and I mostly play a roaming style, and we like smaller scale fights. I am aware that all servers have zerging, but is there a tier that is most friendly to this sort of style? Do higher level players play in lower tier servers because of a lower emphasis on zerging? Any suggestions?

To be honest I think even in the higher tiers you can find roaming if you look hard enough. There are a few roaming guilds on gandara… five to ten members all running together, getting in to fights they have no business winning but with smarts it happens time and again. With wipes, victories and fun!

You just gotta find those guilds on your server There have to be some… right?

Of course there are times when even roaming guilds feel useless at times… when a 30 man zerg runs into a camp to cap it.

To clarify – I’m looking for OPPONENTS who don’t necessarily zerg all the time. Maguuma definitely has roamers, but you just rarely see smaller fights because everyone is running around in 30 man groups. It was the same issue I had when we were fighting Tarnished Coast – they’re just never not in zergs.

I play on Blacktide (currently vs Fissure of Woe&Vabbi) and i’m absolutely satisfied with the amount of daily 1vs1 and 1vs2 encounters. However it was much better when our oppentents were Ruins of Surmia and Whiteside Ridge last month.

Then I would say this… the lower you go the more roamers you shall find. As a Gandaran I miss the whole roaming aspect of things, running along and bumping into an epic duel that would either favour one party of the other or a stalemate that would lead to eventual boredom and running away by both parties lol

But I love my community so I’ll stick with them, I’m sure Anet will fix the zerging issue with A nifty little solution!

I can totally recommend T8. I am on Fissure of Woe and I usually completely avoid zergs (due to me lagging since the last patch). If you look for a bit of a challenge you go to EB or currently Blacktides borderland. If you want some easier roaming you go to Vabbi (worst Server) or the homeland. No matter what you can always avoid Blacktides zergs.

I play in euro tier #1, which is probably the most competitive tier in the world. I do roaming every time I play WvWvW, usually as an engineer, but also as a warrior. I know those professions are not solo roamer friendly. So you can do it anywhere, just that there is constant risk of being overrun by enemy zerg or getting caught by their 3-5 man roaming team. Especially Visunah Square (VS) has amazing intel. That is one the key reasons why VS has been the strongest EU WvWvW server.

Sometimes the enemy has been chasing me through half of the map, which is an obvious waste of their resources. Such type of playing really gets the adrenaline rushing, so I prefer this to the zerb blobbing. The funniest moments happen when I am actually in a party, but my team mates are not visible to the enemy. Enemy sees an “easy” kill and I lure them into a trap. Couple of times entire enemy zerg got destroyed this way. I flee and lure them into a strategically bad position and our zerg wipes them to the last man.

I would go with Ehmry Bay or Devonas Rest

You can roam freely, flip camps, an have small fights on any server. A 60 person zerg ball is 0 threat to a roamer, cause they don’t chase a single person. Worst case scenario they show up while you’re trying to take a supply camp or ninja a tower, just means you have to leave that camp/tower for a couple min an come right back when they leave~ (or hide an go /sleep to make a couple of them paranoid ^.~!)

Lower tier servers typically have lower populations of people WvWing, so if Dragonbrands population scares you out of roaming and trying to flip camps, you should consider transferring down tiers. :<

People will form large groups, and work together, and ‘zerg’, on all servers though, no matter where you go

FA has a lot of roamers/ havoc squads, but like you said TC has very little small teams to fight, Kain does have a lot of small groups and roamers though and I am always finding fun fights with my guild’s small groups. FA is more of a PvP server and we all love open field fights and don’t care that much about the score, and if you wanted to join a roaming/ havoc squad guild there are many to choose from. You and your friends would fit in with us well.
If you are looking for lower tiers, Ebay and DR both would be good servers to go to for what you want. In T7 HoD or NSP would be good for you aswell. All tiers will have large zergs though, even T8, although they might be less frequent.

As for servers with lots of roamers, the servers that come to my mind (having fought them) are Devona’s Rest and NSP.

Do you want to fight small roaming groups or be a part of them? HoD has a lot, but if you want to fight them you’ll have to be on SF or NSP. DR has a lot, but if you want to fight them you’ll have to be on IOJ or DH. If you wanted to be a part of a guild that does that, you’ll find them on most servers. Look at the forum threads for T6, T7, T8, but I think you’ll probably find what you’re looking for in T7.

Ah BP player…I can understand your sentiment.

Our roamers tend to help out our zergs when there is a collection of enemies being annoying to the good of our server.

Also ever since that night cap extravaganza y’all pulled to ruin things all those weeks ago we’ve made it our special mission to roflstomp any and all BP w/out any remorse.

That being said…..Ebay is well known for its roamers

So, the logical choice would be to join TC right? Have all those FA/KN small man’s to fight against, instead of joining them.

There are a variety of ways to respond to that but in the best interest of the OP, while eBay may have once had A solid population of solos/duos/etc actively looking for small
fights or 1v1s. They have either moved on, changed their play style or are not out and about much.

people who run ungrouped engage in combat keeping enemies at bay until more numbers arrive (a legit strat, works well and all don’t get me wrong) is not what the OP is asking about

Hmmz, you do know that we are T9, right?
Also, Vabbi is making some decent impressions as of letely (due to zergballing of course), so wouldn’t think that their borderlands is such a nice roaming area..
Eternal Battlegrounds however is.. I spend quite some time there flipping camps and sents and getting myself into 1v1 or 1v2 fights..
