Please, add some kind of casting time to teleporting in WvW
Great idea, I fully support this. (maybe 3 seconds of being stationary).
Only concern is when you need to use a WP to get inside a keep during defense. Maybe make it so that when you click on the WP it’s still accessible to you during the cast period as most of the keeps uncontest/contest in a matter of 1-2 seconds.

How can they teleport out of a battle? Am I not understanding the issue here, or did you actually meet players who could map travel while in combat? o.O

And then we need to give everybody the same armor and weapon so nobody has different abilities.
Unless you mean WP teleportation because you cannot do that while in combat.

what he means is that you spot an enemy, before he can deal any sort of damage to you to put you in combat, yo teleport away

Well – he says running up to a 3 vs 3 fight and 2 teleporting away. So it does indicate combat. Can’t teleport in combat.
You run up to a 3vs3 fight, attempt to engage, people escape by WPing. if you don’t want to PVP fine, don’t do it.
I can understand running from a zerg. But right now, people are escaping unless they have an overwhelming advantage. Between this and the Alt + F4 thing WvW PvP is quickly becoming a joke. Oh my god! we are on equal numbers! teleport away until we have a zerg to back us up, kitten they caught us! Alt+f4.
The amount of fights I have had in the last week or two is becoming depressing. Why PvP at all if you are only going to fight when you are guaranteed a win?
Myself and my guildies roam in 3 to 4 people groups, very occasionally 5. People hardly ever engage if they are on equal terms.
Since WPs don’t have any kind of casting time, are we meant to only fight when we have 20-30 people? or is it a “leave the guy without swiftness behind” scenario? we can’t force anyone to fight, but putting a cast time on WPing wouldn’t hurt anyone, and would actually force people to PvP more often. Crazy, no?
Can’t say that i have noticed much of this happening in any of the higher tiers of EU wvw, but it also sounds like you are looking for ‘group duels’ which aren’t very beneficial to wvw play. Fighting in open field is a terrible waste of time, and the players you are describing seem to be smart by reporting your presence and killing your group with superior numbers, or moving to tasks that help their teams score.
There is a fine line between cowardice and cleverness.

You can’t teleport to a waypoint when you’re in combat.
If somebody can run away from you and get out of combat, you wouldn’t catch him anyway.
ALT+F4 is a much bigger issue where the character should simply stay in the game for 60 seconds when connection is lost.
@lilith Wow! you’re good at assuming! we tend to roam around capturing supply camps and towers, or defending them, whatever the case may be. You know what we do when faced with similar odds against us? we report, then tackle the invaders. The main force has more important things to do rather than tackle small roaming groups. But hey, thats being clever, diverting resources like that, right? After all, we don’t actually want to PvP in WvW.
“putting a cast time on WPing wouldn’t hurt anyone, and would actually force people to PvP more often. "
It would hurt teams who buy a waypoint in their keep and post lookouts so they have a chance to port players back and defend a keep before it becomes contested.

You really think a 3 second cast time would create such an issue?
You really think a 3 second cast time would create such an issue?
I suspect it would. You don’t get a lot of advanced warning of incoming forces before the waypoint becomes contested. Especially if they are using mesmers to move their force around. And what little time you do have is usually spent trying to assess if you need to break off what you are doing and get back.
Obviously an easy fix to this specific issue would be to make the waypoint take 3 seconds longer before it comes contested. However my main point is that it would change the situation more than you suggest.
In any case I really don’t see the upside of this. Encouraging small scale PvP is good, but it would, by definition discourage (however slightly) the larger scale battles. I hate to say this, but if you are looking for small scale PvP fight, there is already a mode specifically dedicated to that.

I really don’t think the waypoint thing is a huge issue. If they do it, then you either didn’t even engage them yet, or they escaped far enough to get out of combat, so it’s not like you lost anything.
Logging out in downed state is MUCH more annoying, and MUCH more cheap.

what if it had a 3 second casting time, but if the waypoint became contested during that time, you would still end up porting there? making the situation of the waypoint at the activation of the casting the relevant factor instead of the conclusion of the casting. so you could still waypoint back to an area if it’s just about to get contested, but you couldn’t use it to auto-flee from eminent combat situations.
I wouldn’t mind this as the casting time makes sense, but it might encourage even more class/race imbalance since stealth-WP will be the only escape for roaming. You will still not have the PvP that you wanted AND you introduced more incentive to skew the class/race ratio.
ALT F4 is an issue and players need to be left in game for 30 seconds once disconnecting.
Teleporting is NOT an issue. If you can not get them tagged in combat and they wish to run by porting. Fine letem port. You won the engagement.
