As long as culling is where its at I suggest putting a 3 sec casting timer on portal or giving people who run through it a 3 sec. stun upon exiting it (which cant be broken with stunbreakers). or even making it so the portal has to stay up for 5 sec before anyone can enter it so people have a chance to respond.
Portal bombing is such bad thing atm because of the culling, you can literally not see anyone until your entire zerg is dead and there is just about no defense against it, hell I have seen people portal bomb a group of people about 10 feet merely to exploit culling.
We can take away the sideffects once culling has been dealt with but for now we need to do something about it. This is exploiting and not tactics anymore.

Just wait for the tuesday patch and you should see some decent improvement as they’re going to implement fallback models combined with the december test afaik.

Mesmer hasn’t been nerfed enough? Thing is, when they do determine a remedy to culling, they won’t take it away. So, no. Bad idea.

Or maybe we should just have thieves become stunned like that every time they leave stealth. For the culling bug….

So you think that exploiting culling is an awesome idea ? wow.
Culling is the main reason why portal bombing and stealth is OP atm, since that takes a long time for them to fix (and no, the 28 patch wont fix it, it merely helps people on slow computers), they have to do something in the meantime and this is something that could help. Oh and for stealth ? they should drastically increase the stealth debuff timer, 5 sec at least maybe even 8.

Actually I did and this is the main bi I got from reading his posts.

“Please note that this change does not eliminate delays due to culling, it only addresses delays due to asset load times.”

That is ofcourse an issue for many people but for many others thats not the problem at all.
Culling is so bad now that some servers use that as their only way of fighting, and stealth and portal bombing gains much more from it than any other way of fighting.
Its easily the biggest problem in WvW now and I think most people agree on this, it makes zergs exponentially more powerful, the more you the more powerful you are because not only do you have more people (duh) but more of them are also invisible.

When WvW is good (meaning smallish groups, 5-20 on each side) its very good and super entertaining, when its bad and people start exploiting culling as their main way of fighting its some of the worst PvP I have ever done.
If Jan 28 doesnt make a huge improvement (which I doubt due to Habib’s own posts) I really hope they make other adjustments so culling bombing isnt the main “tactic” out there and restricting portals would go a long way.

If you were to do that, you would completely break the awesome portal trains we’ve done on Maguuma. What do you have against coordination?

If you want to take advantage of culling yourself, have your own zergs group up, and have your mesmers spit out Veil’s and Mass invis. Every time they cross that gap, or take a mass invis they’re reset in the culling queue.

Culling is a double edged sword.

(Ps. Portal activation already has a 1 to 2 second delay from placement. Mass drop AOE on those portals. Punish them for using them.)

Of course since there is a cap on AOE zergs can just kitten through it and flank you without fear of completely dying.

Un-capped aoe = major threat to zergs and less zerging around in general. Look at DAoC for answers.

When you’re in a big enough group that the enemy wouldn’t have rolled you anyway you’ve got aoe-a-plenty for really punishing them as they come through a portal.

Also recognize that they are probably going to blindly charge out of it so any wall effect you put down is going to hit all of them- line of warding will probably knock them on their butts twice before they choose a new direction to run-
basically you only need to see the portal and be in range of it to do any of these things and seriously bring the pain to zergs.

If they’re just using the portal away from combat to amplify culling that stinks but it’s already been brought up that veil is a much more potent contributor to that and the devs are working on solving culling in other ways.
