That means everyones glicko rating will be reset to 0 on February 1st. I guess this week was just a good practice for all of us.

This could cause some of the lower tier servers to be ranked as the top tier for one week or two because some of the lower tiers are currently blowouts.

It could be Ehmry Bay, Darkhaven, or Sorrow’s Furnace that’s ranked 1. LOL.

This Friday’s Tier 1 through 3 matches will probably be close so it’s more likely they’ll become mid-tier at first.

The rating behind the movement is what changes. So it won’t be a SoR(which has lost 11 times to BG, won 4 times to SBI, won 6 times to TC, etc) that is there, it will be an SoR(with a 0/0 record) in T1. Everyone’s history is gone.

Next week SoR will still be in “T1”.

In reality, every server and every tier is the same and the movements will come after the next match.

The top 6 servers will still populate tier 1 and 2, everyone else is still going to fall by the wayside but it’s going to take months again to settle out.

The lower tiered servers that pump out 650+ ticks will be in T1 the match after next.

History cant get rewritten as much as we would like it to. But, the ratings can be! I cant help but feel this update is extremely biased towards the lower ranked servers.
I can only imagine jqs collective face when they realise they will have to fight there way to the top to claim no 1

What it will probably mean for YB is that after enduring weeks of unbalanced matches, we might get one good week next match only to be thrown back into the rankings melting pot. Then, after who knows how many weeks of possibly unbalanced matches, we will probably end up back fighting the same servers we are going to fight next week.

I understand that there needs to be some reassessment of rankings, especially for the lower tiers, but this way seems a bit disruptive.

LOL! This is probably amazingly close to the emotions being felt right now.

Definitely not booing. We needed a reset. I don’t see the ratings changing much in the top 3-4 tiers, but the matches for those folks in the lower tiers will be MUCH more pleasant, which is what it should be. Besides, it’ll fix my twitching over the lopsided numbers >_>

Problem is, the blowout tiers will go to T1, T2. The even matches will go T3/T4. So the “big 6” at the moment will start at T3/T4 after next match and then move their way up and the blowout servers currently at the bottom are going to hit the “big 6” on their way down.

It’s going to be another month or 2 of the low pop servers complaining they have to meet the high pop servers as they swap spots.

But, if Blackgate kicks kitten in T2 then they will have a higher rating (80+) at the end of next weeks matchup. This also says the same for the T7 servers; if Darkhaven kicks the crap out of everyone in their tier and they have 90 rating at the end of next week, then they’ll be placed on the top of T1. This is how the glicko ratings work in its early stages It’ll take about a month to balance out.

Edit: I believe everyone will start at 1500 rating

More than a month, in the beginning we had 24 hour matches. This will take another 2-3 months to balance out. The low pop tiers are going to be crying hard on their way down.

Blackgate/FA will be T3
Devona’s Rest will be T3
Borlis Pass will be T3

JQ/SoS/SoR/TC will be T4 or below.

Keep is mind that the reason the servers haven’t had a chance to balance properly is because of the shifting of mass amounts of people over the last few months. Even the disolving of HoD and ET caused problems for atleast a month as they fell. I don’t think it will take very long to sort out the new ranking now that we’re somewhat locked into populations. Bring it on!

Yeah, I’m struggling to see how they came to the conclusion that “A reset at this point will allow the rating & ranking system to more quickly and correctly rate these (effectively) new WvW teams”. Key words being “more quickly”. Pretty much the damage has already been done and the worst impact is over. The lower tiers need a bit of a shake out because of rating drops caused by Kaineng (and perhaps scaling of rating to bring them closer to the other tiers), but is this going to take longer than restarting from fresh?

And the burning question: we’ll never get to see if Kaineng could have made it to tier 1 the hard way.

Here’s how it’s going to work out.

The blowout matchs will be the new tier 1 for a week. Probably EBay, Sorrow’s Furnace and Darkhaven. The even matches will be tier 4/5.

In general:
The first place servers will end up Tiers 1 to 3.
Second place servers Tiers 3 to 6.
Third place servers 6 to 8.

This seems like a terrible idea. You are basically giving servers who don’t deserve it a free ride to tier one. Not only will this destroy tiers for months to come but like the poster above me said we will never truly get to see who deserved to be in tier one and who just road the coattails of the rating reset. Whoever thought of this idea should probably be fired.

Good point. I wonder if JQ will ever be able to get back into T1, with their tactic being always aim at red.

I play on Sanctum of Rall so obviously my opinion is going to be a bit bias but this seems absolutely absurd.

We just spent 5 months climbing from #17 to #2 in the overall rankings and assuming we finish 3rd next week (probable) we’re going to get sent right back to #17?

Good idea except should have gone back to 1-3 day matches for a bit immediately for the volatility to quickly reset so their won’t be too many blowouts

Probably because we dont want to be lollersk8te roflstomping weak servers for who knows how long in the coming months to get back to a tier we already belong in. Things will pretty much end up exactly as they are now, all they did was add weeks of boring wvw.

The funny thing is that next week will probably be one of the more balanced wvw weeks we have seen for a very long time.

This really benefits keineng more than any other server and punishes Sor, Sos, Bg, Jq etc. Anyone from those servers has a right to be kitten off.

Whether its SoS or BG or by some miracle JQ that replaces you the outcome will be pretty much the same. The reason T2 is such a mess right now is because of the meltdown of SBI (and subsequent fusion into your server) and the projected T2 quality servers that have yet to gain the rating.

Most Balanced in weeks? SoR spent how long getting throttled by Blackgate and only advance to T1 by fighting 2 weak opponents for 2 weeks.

So the solution to an unbalanced match up is to create more unbalanced match ups?

After next week SoR, TC and FA will all be sent to the bottom 3 tiers. They will climb back up at the expense of every medium sized server in front of them. However, they will not climb together because they are not equal.

TC is in the worst position of all. They’ll be beat handily by BG next week. Fall to the bttom and get beat by SoR. Fall to Tier 8 and have to work their way back up.

Instead of 1-2 more weeks of unbalanced matchups were going to have 2-3 months of unbalanced matchups.

I like the idea but it should be one week of DALY matchups to balance out fast

But the damage is already 110% done. It will be better from here on. Why try to fix something that’s already a past done deal, and create even more future problems? This is like throwing good money after bad money.

I think resetting everything with tier 1 all having a base of 1800 and descending 100 every tier, reaching a base of 1200 for tier 7 would be the absolutely best option at the moment. I think the major issue right now is that the high servers are just too high to simply reach and the low servers are too low to actually catch up. This will act to solve the issue because it will pull everyone closer together, while still making sure that we don’t have absolutely terrible matchups for the next few months.

If a course of action like this isn’t taken, the only other way to make sure that the current high tier servers don’t have snooze-fests for months is to make matches 24 hours for about 1 or 2 weeks to get back in the swing of things. Right now, I’m currently bored out of my mind in WvW on Sanctum of Rall trying to get to where we can get some competition. Running +500 or more PPT at all hours for a week straight is just not fun for anyone and I want to avoid that.

The question then is how much of a problem still exists, or will do at the end of next week. By the looks of it, there are currently 4 servers that are possibly 2 or more tiers outside of where they should be.

*Kaineng is still rising, but I think the time of them causing huge blowouts and messing up the rankings is over.
*CD is still dropping but could possibly still be a tier 4 or 5 server.
*IoJ is still dropping but their descent seems to be slowing.
*SBI is a complete unknown at this point.

The dropping servers could cause some disruption but could also help servers to regain rating lost because of the rise of Kaineng. After that, maybe the ratings could be normalised in some way so there isn’t such a wide spread.

I think the real irony would be if the tiers were deliberately thrown into turmoil just as they were stabilising.

EDIT: my apologies to the European servers – I didn’t look at your side. But then do both regions need to be treated the same way anyway?

Seriously, deal with it. WvW ratings where people can freely transfer between servers never meant much to begin with. Think of this more as the true ‘start’ to WvW.
