Hello all
Welcome to my thread, you may be wondering what this is about and i will say this thread is about WvW at its current-future state and how we can rectify this problem.
First i will state the problem
At its current state World vs World is going into the direction where only about 5-7 servers will be viable and 1-2 servers viable for taking the throne in tier 1. With the announcement of the closing of free transfers every guild is flocking to servers they see fit and healthy often being the top servers and to be fair i don’t blame them. However WvW was not intended to be this way where you have say very limited variability within servers because everybody is rushing to a select few servers (my own included). Now you may be thinking this is just another kid who doesn’t want to see his server die, but as you can see in my tag i am from the most succesful server and i am not posting this in fear for my server but in fear for competitiveness and the game.
Now the boring problem is stated i will say what my vision for WvW is and i’m sure many others share my dream. My vision is that all servers will be roughly equally matched in server strength and competitiveness so say a tier 1 server could vs two tier 2 servers and have a fun match.
Now the solution, WvW at its current state is not working effectively the tier system and ranking system is not adding any depth so i am here to arhcitect a new system taking heavy inspiraton from sporting leagues. Which is only possible courtesy of the guesting system which essentially makes servers for PVE obselete and the only use for specific servers is WvW.
So now servers have become your “faction” and for this new match up system to work there would need to be a reduction in the number of servers to 15 competitive servers.
Where everybody will be booted from there current server and forced to join one of these competitive servers.
Taking from the Football league inspiration there will be seasons in which servers battle it out. There will be fixtures in which your server (faction) battles two other servers for one week, the winner gains 3 points the server which comes second gains 1 and the server which comes last doesn’t gain a point . The reason why the winner gains 3 instead of 2 is so servers play for first as taking first place is more rewarding then second place. In the end of the season where every combination of match up has been completed similar to sporting leagues the servers with the most points win.
Now you may be wondering who’s to say the current imbalance won’t come to this aswell only it will be excacerbated because the top servers will often come into combat with the bottom servers, and i answer this with why the current balance exists and why guilds all flock to more healthy servers, it’s due to the tier system. Where large guilds flock to play with more competitive servers now due to competition in this set up if it’s fixture matches every week everybody would generally be more spread out.
Now how server transfers will work is also heavily influenced by the sporting league.
During the active season there will be paid transfers so no free transfers however when a season ends and a winner is decided before the next season there will be a 2 weeks to 1 month grace period where there will be free transfers and everyone can recruit.
So that’s all that i have thought of at the moment please feel free to post constructive feedback sorry for the long read.

And who decides which servers get closed to fill up other servers? Some players actually have loyalty to the servers the are on, to punish them for glory seekers/server hoppers (delete the applicable) doesn’t seem fair to me

that is a fair point, however one solution could be make completely new server names in the end of the day everybody will have to choose a new server due to the “dynamic server cap”.
This is a solid idea. Great idea, as long as we do not end up getting stuck into some kinda of bowl system. But brackets and a playoff a few times a year. This would be great.

NCAA college bowl system, the BCS. I was half making a joke about American college football here in America, but how would you know that…i was too cute for my own britches there mate.
That doesn’t really seem practical to me. How do you determine the population? Certainly not by just the server population because there could easily be servers where the WvW population doesn’t directly correlate with the server’s total population because of how guilds function. ANet can’t even use WvW population history since that doesn’t account for potential differences in the mix of casual versus more dedicated WvW’ers. You want to totally ruin WvW? Put in place a system that makes serious players not able to play.
I have edited seeing that dynamic caps wouldn’t be reasonable BUT come on guys lets not get this archived.

Also, if you want a more competative WvW, you should tell the people on your server to stop trying to poach Guilds from the EU servers.
simpler resolution would be winner goes up 1 tier, loser goes down 1 tier, 2nd place stays, apart from tier 1 ( only 3rd place goes down) and tier 8 (only 1st place goes up)….
How would large sovereign guilds be alloted to these servers in a discrete way and what would be the measure which makes the 15 servers equal? You give a guild a success index? Or a player?

Well if your server is so tight knit you could obviously organize your players to join the same faction.
I like the idea that all servers will eventually go up against each other. Still, rather than close down servers, lets just add 1 extra server making a season last 12 match-ups.
