As the title says, I stepped into Wv3 and was appalled by the heavy repair cost for my level 80 character which was leveled entirely in PvE.

I have died about 5 to 6 times and have managed to kill or assist in killing 75+ enemies from other servers. I did not make more than 4s while doing so.

Back to topic…I think the repair costs are extremely unreasonable – why not get rid of it altogether and bring back the death penalty mechanic as the good old Guild Wars 1?

My suggestion:

Instead of armor damage and eventual repair, just give 5% death penalty (DP) per death. If you reach 25% in DP (i.e. 5 consecutive deaths), you get booted from Wv3. DP leads to reduced stats, and can only be removed by killing (must be a finishing move) other enemies or fulfilling objectives – each kill/objective fulfilled removes 5% DP until no more can be removed. This encourages people to take risks first few times (resulting in some nice fights), and at the same time reminding them not to die 5 times in a row. Let the best survive and the weak weeded out, especially during peak times.

The repair mechanics needs to go to the recycle bin. What do you guys think?

Because, well, I make more money in WvW than I have to spend. So maybe you do something wrong.

Very bad idea, I really don’t like it.

The repair costs are fine for me, high enough to be a slight punishment but still payable.

People who play support builds will lose out on this if it was based on Finishing Moves. As it is they already miss out on loot bags.

Please learn to read, then post your comments. I killed many more people than the number of times I died.

Why on earth do you want people to pay to play against other players. Deaths are inevitable in PvP – the repair mechanic achieves nothing more than frustration and inconvenience to most players in PvP. Repair can stay in PvE but it has no place in PvP, PERIOD.

I now feel how well designed Guild Wars 1 was. Guild Wars 2 is turning into a massive disappointment, unless ANET does something about it.

I neither have a problem with the repair costs being there nor would I care if it was gone. The solution is to not die. Don’t do silly things that get you killed. Play smarter. Not harder.

Are you playing a level 80 character in Wv3 or leveling a character while playing Wv3? Because the repair costs are NOT the same – level 80 players pay much more in repair, just as they do in waypoint teleporting. However, the loot drops for lvl 80s in Wv3 are NOT on par with the losses from repair.

And just because you don’t like an idea doesn’t make it bad. Perhaps you never played Guild Wars 1?

I made 1g 90s from WvW today, even after repair costs were deducted. That’s at level 50 (well 58 now). Repair costs are negligible, the only time they would be an issue is if you are fighting away from a point that gives you a reward and even then you’d have to be getting 0 loot from enemies. If you killed 75 enemies as you claimed the loot you got would have far outweighed your repair costs even with no other rewards.

Why make sense, when it’s so much more fun to make nonsense?

I don’t know why you all keep bringing up the silly argument about how much you make in Wv3. I don’t give a ratskitten about it because lvl 80 PvE’s can make a lot more in PvE through dungeons. That said, I have enough gold to pay for the repairs, but I feel that repair MUST NOT exist in PvP, in any form whatsoever.

So what if you can make more in PvE than PvP? The point is repair costs in WvW are not that significant. 10s full repair in maybe 2 hours of play? How often are you repairing?

Repair costs would be much more manageable if the loot system wasn’t terrible in WvW and loot went right into your inventory. There are too many times in intense battles that I forget where all my loot bags were dropped (or just missed some) and therefore lose out on possible loot. And if I die, well that means none of the loot that dropped for me I’ll be able to pick up.

this is a bad idea for one reason. If this was the case, people would just simply sit out of combat in a keep or something and wait for the death penalty expire. It would encourage players to avoid fighting.

Unlike the others, I do find it to be a pain (I try to grind money, but its not always easy, and easily spent). I just don’t think this is the solution. There is already a run back time to entire the fray, which means the army is at a loss… having armor damage isn’t really needed/a great idea. Or allow us to repair with karma (easier to farm up).

You have to die a lot to reach a 10 silver repair cost. I only get a bill that high when I’m having trouble in a dungeon with repeated wipes. It’s pretty rare for me to die in WvW, and it’s always because of a mistake on my part.

My suggestion: Play smarter. And I don’t mean that offensively or to imply that you are stupid or need to “l2p” or any other kind of silly kitten-baggery. I simply mean to rethink how you approach WvW.

Don’t get involved in fights you know you can’t win. Don’t chase that player you’ve almost got down as he retreats to his zerg. Know when you’re outmatched and retreat accordingly. I’ve been in plenty of towers that were outmanned 4 to 1 and doomed to fall. Instead of making a ‘noble’ last stand and fighting to the death, I just made sure I was out of combat and ported the kitten out of there to take the fight to them somewhere else, without a repair bill.

And one more thing… if you don’t have a stunbreak on your bar, expect to have to repair a lot. They are vital for those times you get caught out of position and the zerg decides to zero in on you.

I also netted about 2g in a few hours of WvW last night and I probably died about 5 times. It’s true; the trick is to know how to choose your battles. Not only will it save your bank, but it will also save you the wasted time running back when you’re needed where you actually can make the difference. Know when a point is lost, and know when to fall back and regroup.

capturing supply camps or keeps will net you about 2s each, you’re not supposed to make money from killing just players when wvw is about whats building you own and not so much pvp

Price isnt an issue for me, unless my server is being camped by megazergs then i see it as an issue. Its hard to get enough people together to begin wvw when a sizeable number wont get enough money back for repairs.

So I do see the issue.

Also keep in mind that WvWers dont want PvE’rs jumping into WvW just so they can save coin on repairs. IF WvW damage is to be repaired for free, or a lower rate than it should only repair damage obtained IN WvW.

However this can make the game more confusing because there will be two different types of damage.

So i’m on the fence about it. I see the reason for it, and I also see the problems meddling with it.
