Removing free transfers will make wvw worse at the top.
Transfers should be cash only. No gem stores, a purchasable transfer ticket that can only be bought with real money. No gold involved.

You make it seem as if the players will pay for the entire guild to be moved, that is not the case, as you can freely if you so chose to, move from one server to another and still stay in the same guild, and would thus be an act of the “individual” rather than the entire guild. Of course, having an entire guild move will be more spendy overall, but considering it is the individual paying, not the guild, it doesn’t make any difference.
This game needs another gold sink anyways, a few more actually, and this will at least help in some aspects of the game.
Except players will know that the guilds that are making a server number one won’t be able to move servers easily, and so they can invest a few gold, get the gems, and transfer to a winning server. This will be about individual player migration, not guild migration.
If they don’t remove the ability to spend gold on transfers, this will seriously hurt individual player migration and dilute the top tier servers.
am i missing something? i thought they said the free transfers are only for the first few months of the game so people can get situated. I remember reading server tranfers would cost $ and you would not get the WvW rewards until the next round so people wouldnt server hop

Once a number one server is established, people will know which has the best chance of staying number one and they will move to that server.
Now imagine players individually know that the major guilds on those servers won’t be able to change servers easily.
800gems (testing cost) to swap servers = ~3g
industry standard of $25 = 2100gems = ~9g
For 9g people will be able to transfer to the dominant server. This is unacceptable and why the cost needs to be for money only, not for gold.

I wouldn’t know that; I’ve never transferred. Nor do I intend to (and no, I’m not on a top, or winning server. We routinely lose, often by 100,000-200,000 points).

The reason for gems is so ppl can buy bulk if they so choose, rather then having several transactions for say transfer, dye’s, boost’s, ect ect. Buy a lump sum of gems and spend them as you choose.
In the end its still costing real money.

Can’t people just trade gold for Gems?
Transfers should be limited to weekly window that coIncides with the weekly reset of the WvW. No fees just a lockout to prevent server hopping advantages for WvW games.

AFAIK players from JQ jumped to SoR for lower queues, and some from Yak’s jumped to SoR as well to be on the winning side, problem is those from JQ will end up in the same position with SoR in a few weeks if they keep winning and then they’ll probably want to go elsewhere again.

You guys see, to forget the fact of individual player skill, upkeep of top servers providing lots of players around the hours, and queue times. Yeah, a few people might transfer. But the thing you zerg bears are forgetting is the fact that smaller battles. aka lower tier servers are probably more fun, from a fun standpoint, not a “lol I’m on this server so that automatically makes me one of the good players” standpoint. even if transfers cost gems, transfers will slow to a crawl, not everyone wants to just upchuck gold to transfer to the bigger zerg with a 25 minute queue time.
In the coming months things will balance out. Especially after they cut off transfers, of course they will make people aware, so they can transfer to the server they want to stay on, and after that the charts and population do the rest. Eventually things will balance out, the game’s only been out for 2~ months, and these ratings change weekly now. Give it a few months and things will be less chaotic.
Not really so much a problem due to individual players hopping around, though that does give an impact which I agree. But you also must consider that moving say a mega guild/alliance who has over 300+ players has a much much larger effect. On the server they are going to and the one they left.
All I know is that free transfers is the major cause of problems in Wv3 on a whole and needs to be addressed in some shape or form.

I don’t think anyone has a problem with transfers. They have a problem with free transfers every 24 hours. Transfers should cost real money and be on at least a 2 week cooldown.

WvWvW should be disabled until the next round for anyone who transfers. That would stop the server jumping because of current match ups.
