I read this in one of the threads and i think its a great idea.

currently nightcapping is a major issue in www. its very apparent that na guilds seeking oceanic presence and eu seeking na presence.this can be solved by using factions where anybody from any server can play on the same faction. this will give plenty of social opportunities and Europe and NA to play together. paid faction can be brought in instead of paid servers.This will also show the true population of www instead of pve population like it currently shows.

it would also be fun to mix the offensive eu and defensive na.
na will get the coverage they want and Europe will get the fights they want.
it will also stop people from burning out and whining.

Interesting idea. And actually a good one. How would you incorporate all the servers though and ranking through the 3 factions?

More than likely, most servers will pick a faction together, will that put us in the same situation again?

Do you play on a clustered server for the WvW as the faction?

Do you get randomly assigned?

I like the idea, just needs to be fleshed out. And it may solve the nightcapping problem if both NA and Euro were queue’d into the same WvW servers as their team faction. But the maps would have to be large or there would need to be multiple servers and overflows and some way to track the scores.

Its not necessary to have only 3 factions..
U have have 30 and have the same tier we have now. Each tier will have 3 fighting against each other.

Population is not an issue as outside of tier 1 and prolly 2. Nobody has even 2 bus full even at primetime, leave alone off hours.

The problem here is that the EU and US are separate systems – if you are on a EU server you can’t guest on a US one and vice versa – so to make this happen they need to remove that barrier which i would like for them to do but don’t see it happening soon

I agree. It would be less boring. I want something storyline significant, not a meaningless excuse to charge for world transfers and divide the community alongside meaningless lines.

I would be more content to murder the other side if they had chosen a different side for an idealistic reason rather than server side reason.

I’m not saying it needs to be Kurzicks vs…

You would need to implement the storyline in such a way that roughly half the players want to be on both sides, and implement tribes style temporary team balance (rewards those who volunteer to switch to maintain balance). It can’t be simple good versus evil.

Many games do this successfully.

What the OP is saying that we have factions and not servers. It’s like Horde and Alliance in WoW, or something like that. (Making an assumption, so hit me on the head if I’m wrong.)

Instead of having so many factions, there should be a league of teams or something like that, and servers will be rotated there based on tiers and stuff.

ie) Desolation, YB and SoR in a team league called Vigil’s Watch, while SoS, IoJ and HoD in something called Ascalonian Keepers. The factions will be led into their own map and server time where they can WvW for points and stuff like that.

(Again, I just threw several servers together. GG)

I like this idea but it does really need fleshing out.

I don’t know much about technicalities but it doesn’t seem to be a problem in a lot of other games using this system.

I proposed this idea a long time ago and it got shot down pretty quick, but I’ll put it out there again. Why not a faction based set of borderlands completely unrelated to the greater wvw where people can just jump in and play on randomly distributed teams. Most of us don’t really care about the overall score, we jsut want to get in and have some fun. It could just be overflows on top of overflows as long as the numbers were equal.

I don’t know why they have ‘EU’ and ‘NA’ servers, they are all in the same place. Even having language specific EU servers doesn’t make sense as there are many groups on the NA servers that use their own language anyhow (check out the Asian groups).

If they do merge servers, it should be EU and NA, so we just have one server list.

I don’t know much about technicalities but it doesn’t seem to be a problem in a lot of other games using this system.

Right now ANet has set this up so that EU and NA are on separate systems. Eventually this will be fixed, but with what you’re saying is that this REALLY shouldn’t be a problem.

Factions would allow a server (or players, if it was implemented on a player-wide basis), to not worry about coverage at weird awkward times like oceanic for NA servers and NA for EU servers, since they will be sharing the same player base selected from the servers set up in the current faction.

Also the gem prices tied to population is highly misleading.
Example fsp is in tier 6 and designated as high population and see is medium designated but tier 1.

Salluks, this is because SEE is probably doing a blackout to get some guild transfers in right away. So once this is all settled, you’ll be able to see what kind of prices you’re going to be paying at to get in.

But I’m also relegating to the population is in terms of pve vs wvw ratio is as well. Using your example, that means that FSP is in a lower tier bracket because most of their population is just content with their PvE content and doesn’t really care much for WvW.

Nope sfr has always been medium populated. Also same for deso has much less www pop but huge pve pop. But still tier 1. u see the trend?

wvwvw is already very mindless and not enough rewarding, no nothing…we just do it for indeed to do something and try to have fun….but making it even more casual and more mindless is not thanks, i would definately completely stop playing. in any case they should delete wvwvw and make factions in the pve map…that would be easier and more fun than that idea.

for who ever said why Eu and NA, ive heard EU servers are localed in Germany while NA in USA, if this isnt true and all are set in USA so dumb idea from the start then to apply this kind of labels when you have wvwvw, and the only reason to have server in different parts is about the latency.

and for the other person which talks about night-capping, let me tell you a secret, the world spins for everyone, not only for you, hence there is no nightcapping, they could say the same for you, if your world doesnt have people at some hour, too bad for you.

Nice attempt, you forgot your sig is still there though. XD Its a nice touch though just in case people are wondering about your intent.

Some servers are more balanced in time so they have no night while other servers are for regions which span the globe and have allied with the other regions which cover their time zone holes..

NA is a small place time zone wise, while some areas have no night..

So yes, night capping does exist and is typically the result of everyone joining the same servers to be with their friends or region..

Also it would be solved if the lines of battle were drawn upon storyline ideals rather than region.
