Ladies and Gentlemen, we have done it. Today, Sea of Sorrows has finally reached Tier 1 in WvW Rankings.

Being in the server’s first WvW focused guild, I have had the privilege to watch our server rise from the biggest joke in the WvW scene to where we stand now. Our rise in the past few weeks was swift, but I want to remind everyone of all the painstaking setbacks we had to endure to get here.

August 25th, Sea of Sorrows was born. It was the unofficial home to Oceanics. Almost immediately we were labeled a care-bear PVE Server with no competitiveness in WvW. Our only advantage was that we were dirty night cappers who were amazing at PvDooring ghost towns.

But we fight on.

September 17th, guilds from another server wiped us out in WvW and spawn camped us for 5 days in a row. They entered our server and convinced many that SoS was a lost cause in WvW and the only way to succeed was to leave, and many did.

But we fight on.

October 1st, another 2 weeks of losing disheartened many WvW players on our server. Several WvW guilds and key commanders left our server to find an easier time elsewhere. The outlook of our server was at its grimmest.

But we fight on.

October 10th For the we barely held our ground in tier 5 rankings, our first WvW Oceanic-USA Alliance broke down and the few USA WvW guilds we had left our server. Even Oceanic guild leaders received server transfer invitations left and right, it seemed the SOS goal of WvW success was forever a dream.

But we fight on.

October 20th A major turning point. Major guild alliances disband across servers. Major hardcore USA time zone guilds began to move into Sea of Sorrows seeing the potential of having more Oceanic partners. They came, and they promised to stay.

We fight on.

October 29th Playing into our rising momentum, we begin recruitment efforts of European guilds to join SOS. Although it is still a work in progress, the number of European time zone players continues to rise to this day. Everyday our numbers swell, more and more WvW veterans join our call to battle from all over the world.

We fight strong.

And here we are, today. November 16th 2012 will mark the day when Sea of Sorrows officially enters into Tier 1 WvW Matchup. We don’t know if we are ready, most likely it will be an uphill struggle to the bitter end.

But it is in the uphill struggle where we thrive. This is where to will be conditioned through the bloodiest of battles.

I am proud of every single Sea of Sorrowrian who has stepped up over the last 80 days and pulled our server together. Together, we have proven that not a single minute of our time was wasted. Not a single piece of gold was ill spent. No matter how many times we wipe, we will keep smashing our tired bodies against the gates of our enemies. I also want to thank the guilds who have transferred to SOS. Thank you for training us and putting up with our lack of experience and discipline, we swear to continue improving, as a server together.

Tomorrow will be a challenging day. It just so happens that SoS’s ascension into Tier One falls onto the day of the Lost Shore major patch. The lure of the evil PVE is great, but we will hold the line regardless. Remember that your gear or shiney new toys is just a passing phase and any benefits will be wiped out within a week, but stepping up to tier 1 the day we rise is an event forever marked in your legacy. We need you to hold the line.

I thought Tarnished Coast was the unofficial roleplay server.
I used to be on SoS like many other Aussies during headstart, I left due to the irritating fellow Aussies actually, haha.. a lot of kids spamming ridiculous stuff in chat during that first week convinced me to bail out pretty quick. That’s probably changed now the “honeymoon” period of the GW2 community has settled. Well done and best of luck to you guys in the “big league”, I’ll be cheering for ya.

advice from a blackgate commander….

fight defensive, fortify towers first. THEN attack. flip supply camps a minute or two before the timer. send people to defend yours at that time as well. do NOT leave a supply camp without defense if you are planning on getting supply yaks from it. they will kill yaks and flip camps 24/7

never let up on sbi, they will have a weak weekend showing, and then they will pull ahead on weekday coverage.

play the metagame… dont piss off one faction if you do not intend to follow through and take and hold things. do that and you’ll have somewhat less 2v1. jq and sbi leave each other alone the vast majority of the time…. any reprieve you can get to restock your supplies you should take.

Welcome to Tier 1 Sea of Sorrows! You have big shoes to fill, as Blackgate has played excellently the three weeks they were here. As a member of Stormbluff Isle, don’t worry about the weekend as much, your biggest obstacle will be weekday coverage. You will be pressed 24 hours a day by both Stormbluff Isle and Jade Quarry. Welcome.

I wish SoR was there. Sucks we can’t be in T1 just yet…

I pretty much could care less about being tier one. All I want is WvW to be fun. That’s all that matters.

This isn’t an e-sport. I hope it never becomes one. Because taking things seriously kills the fun out of it all.

But all in all. Looking forward to the fun fights that T2 has given and the ones that T1 will bring.

I went to Gunnar’s Hold, a European server because I play during European prime as do you. I am sure you know that.

I have no problems with night capping, I just have zero interest in playing against it. I am not the only one as Desolation (European #1) has disintegrated this week and a quarter of the server has relocated.

I wish you all the best of luck in Tier 1 SoS but you’re not going to get any respect at all from SBI or JQ if you win. You beat on doors during your prime meanwhile SBI and JQ beat on each other during their prime. Very similar to how IoJ and SoR spent this entire week beating on each other.

You have a massive advantage that no other server has, it’s like steriods in baseball. No one respects Barry Bonds for hitting 74 home runs and no one will respect you for winning in Tier 1.

Regardless, SBI and JQ has a strong nighttime crew, SoS will have plenty of resistance.

That honestly just made me laugh, IoJ was oceanic, and Rall had plenty of skilled players on during our prime. (though they may have just been REALLY tired NA players). As for respect, both SBI and JQ have night crews and good ones at that. In all likelihood we will lose due to a lack of EU but who cares, T2 gives us great fights, (those pesky doors) and T1 will as well.

Gratz SoS free transfers made it possible. Can’t wait to see if turtleing will keep you in teir 1 now its been nerfed. How long will it last?

It really is. If I recall correctly we lost most of our map on 11/15 from around 9am-2pm because of some server (you know who you are) “PvDooring” us. It’s sad that we can get trashed like this for playing pretty hard, speaking mainly for the NA players as that’s who I have contact with, when other servers do exactly what we’re “guilty” of.

Peetee, quit dumping your PvDoor nonsense on multiple threads (can’t believe I see you mirroring your garbage elsewhere) and giving your server a bad name. You have some great people playing for SoR and it sucks a lot of forum-browsers are going to see your post first and label your server based on YOUR attitude.

Kudos to you guys. This is a very nice post without a lot of chest thumping. I look forward to fighting you guys this coming week and wish you the best of luck. My biggest advice is play for the fights and not the score. If you get focused on the score and get behind you get disheartened. Just play your heart out and have fun.

Sounds like you might have the coverage now to beat SBI. SBI really doesn’t have that big of a population. Queues are 30 minutes at most in prime-time. Out-man buffs are common during the day. If you can take advantage of that time period, you should do well.

I play on SoR. It’s been fun for almost 3 weeks now due to the competitive nature of T1/T2 servers.

Sea of Sorrows has so many bad commanders they dont even know when to switch maps

so many bad guilds like FoE and pW who will sit and defend something with 10-15 players even if there is no risk of it being lost

thank god. there wont be meaningless argument between commanders anymore. No commanders will be pssed off and leave the BL, we will fight tight as one, as we always did when diash was not around.

And plz, keep out of WvW next week, coz everytime you said you leaving, you came back 2 or 3 days later when we started winning.

And when you not in WvW, please dont judge other commanders on chatbox, every commanders trying to ignore you and make sure the community go well.

Sea of Sorrows rises with or without you, good player or normal players they are our brothers. Large guilds or small guilds they are all part of our family. Winning or losing we will keep fighting, ET humiliated us and now they fall, IoJ crushed us and now they lost 3 weeks in a row.

We are here because we kept fighting, we will guard our world no matter what. This is our world and everyone has the right to fight for it, its our duty, its our honor.

JQ and SBI, listen up, you are better or not we dont care, but we are coming.

Well said, I was going to point out something similar regarding Daish and the SOR/halloween match up.

Nothing hurts a team more than giving up, desertion and infighting, SOS will be much stronger this week if he actually sticks to his word this time and doesn’t turn up.

Congratulations Sea of Sorrows. From a Tarnished Coast player I know how you feel. When searching around pre-launch and post launch regarding the unnoficial RP servers. I came across a number of alliances that said TC was a carebear server and not worth it. So I know where you come from.

I have the utmost respect for you guys and I wish you the best. I hope your community is as strong as iron and your resolve as steal. A salute to your accomplishment. Overall since you never received the kind of mass migration of a large alliance super respect to all of you have have worked hard for Teir 1.

I thought Kaineng was the biggest joke in the WvW scene?

It’s not until you suffer through the tough times that you can truly appreciate the good times. It’s been an amazing journey for our server so far, most other servers put in our situation would have capitulated and become WvW ghost towns.

I think the elitist guilds (or wanna be elitist) and bandwagon players transferring off the server during the difficult times has really strengthened our Oceanic and SEA communities. Together with our NA friends we will be able to put up one hell of a fight. Well done Sea of Sorrows, we’ve earned our place in tier 1. This will make for an interesting 7 days.

I know exactly what you mean :) , lots of us have already experienced the worst though, if the same happens again and this week is a disaster then too bad.

I also wish Blackgate good luck in Tier 2, I’m lead to believe that the gap between the two tiers is not as large as it used to be with the arrival of SOR and SOS.

They had a night crew since start, the greatest advantage in WvW you can get. They were also in midpack tier, so no shame to have.

They also received massive transfer, and aren’t losing since release.

I’m not here so say SoS doesn’t deserve to be tier 1, or anything bad about OP post. But to say they had it “bad” is ridicoulus.

Just ask Kaineng, in the last tier since day 1, getting stomped this week.

My server also, Anvil Rock, we didn’t Win a SINGLE match up since Release, and we still aren’t a ghost town.

You do realize that IoJ’s primetime is Oceanic like ours is right? So in this case you were the ones who could be said Pvdooring but we did have a strong NA presence unlike IoJ which is pretty much solely oceanic and European.

Why? Last time I checked, all servers are receiving the new content patch, so every server has the same potential disadvantage in WvW due to players chasing shinies.
