Now I must find a way to hit 50 people with a ram.
I doubt the ram can hit 50 things because if an enemy ram is blocking the gate you can’t hit the gate…..is this a bug?

The ram #2 can hit 50 people. And I don’t doubt that, we build rams in pangloss tunnels. It’s epic.

I have a hard time believing this mostly due to specific instants where only a few people get hit by siege. Maybe there is a bug because there are plenty of times when people stack up near a door where a catapult is hitting behind it trying to knock people off rams to only see a few people fly backwards and get interrupted and sometimes it’s not the people on the ram. It’s only a handful and no where near 10+.
Also with Arrowcarts if it’s hitting more then 5 players aren’t seeing it. We see only handful of damage numbers on a few targets even when they are in big turtle balls.

I’ve hit groups both on the other side of a door and in open field, where a group of 25+ was bunched close together…I have NEVER seen a catapult hit more than 5 people. And yes, there was definitely more than 5 people in range to take damage.

As other players stated, did it get tested? I used siege to defend place, and I don’t remember hitting more then 5 players.

You guys must bd smoking some srong stuff cos firing a catapult into s crowed generates ALOT of numbers on the screen.

…I noticed that sometimes you dont see the dps numbers, but you still hit something and will get lootbags even if the whole time it “looked like” you didnt hit anything (cuz of the missing numbers).
I think its very misleading and might be part of the confusion about AoE limits on siege.
I would suggest to (optionally) show all dps numbers even if they might “obstruct” vision a bit?
Or some sort of audible / visual indication what (player/door/wall) you hit and how many targets got struck.
i.e. Screams/yells from hit players (echoeing the more player where hit or similiar).
Crumbling wall/breaking wood sound which can be heard even afar from a distance. Would also prevent “ninja-catapult-tactics” to some degree.
On a sidenote: Marching golems could make some loud and even far away noticeable sounds too.
Check your combat log. If they displayed siege numbers for everything you hit on the screen, it would create one giant mess. Arrow carts also hit on a tick basis so it doesnt do all its damage upfront. I have hit doors/chokepoints with catas and have seen lots of numbers and bags.
i can vouch for AC hitting more than 5 ppl, i have this pic as proof, half of them respawned, so about 40 dead bvodies from 11 AC and 1 cannon, that was so worth 81s for that screenie. so yes, AC and cannon DO hit correctly with thses nuumbers.

If there’s 3 rams on a door and a cata hits from behind the door, it’s likely hitting all 3 rams plus 7 players. If it were knocking back 10 people, it wouldn’t be hitting the siege. I suspect mesmer clones count as 1 each as well, and a cata would just straight kill those, and there’s usually several on the door if people are pushed around it.
As for AC, those absolutely hit far more than 5 people. However, it seems the attack from an AC behaves more like Meteor Shower from an elementalist than anything else. Looking at it from the perspective of someone being hit by an AC, I can’t say there’s ever been a scenario where I have stood in an AC’s fire and not gotten hit, despite there being at least 15 people in the radius. If the cap was 5, in that scenario any given player would only have a 33% chance of being hit.
Edit: And I read cata as a cap of 10 somehow instead of 50…AC part still stands.

Any word on target prioritization? Kind of annoying when you aoe a crowd and hit almost nothing but clones and pets.

should look into the target limit for catapult. when we gate stack while ramming the door the cata behind the gate definitely does not knock even close to 20 people back, even if u include some mesmer images and like 3-4 rams, with a target limit of 50, most of the entire zerg would be knocked back.

How about consolidating this thread with others and adding in range and damage to the above listing habib? Having a moderator go and clear out some of the other siege postings, like placement & wvw details, siege weapons and aoe limits, and stickying or wiki? Game has been out for 4 months now and it may help new users to wvw find siege data.
Kinda like the wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Siege_weapon, but with dmg to armor level # (pick an average number).
I’m certainly not the guy to hit 50 (can’t find 50 silly enough to group under my AC/Cata). I only ever see about 5 dmg text at one time, but then again I am just terrible targeting.

Not likely I don’t have any stability on my Mesmer and I have stacked and not get hit by cats when stacking against door and yes no one gave it to me either.
passing stability to 2/3 of a zerg is rare to impossible, and with 50 limit on a cata everyone at the door should get knockedback. while its possbile stability is screwing up some of the visual effect of the cata hitting the door while its stacked, i doubt it would be that big a difference. and of course, with a 50 limit, stacking at the door should have been completely useless since it will hit everyone and unless rammer has stability he will get knockbacked also. but this is apparently not the case.

I’m pretty sure it only hits one target if they are stacked on top of one another. For it to hit 50 targets they would need to be evenly spread. If they’re all stacked up on top of one another only the tallest player gets hit?
Arrow chart single attack consist more than one attack maybe 5 or 10 shots. So every shot may restricted to 5 or 10 targets.
Trebs should be 100, cause its a massive siege weapon
