Oh at higher tiers they camp all the exits …. Well some servers do … Glad it’s not all of them.
What’s funny is that it’s usually fairly easy to destroy those from afar.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Valid? Sure. It doesn’t violate any game play mechanics. In my view it’s bad form though. Being pushed to spawn on a map is punishment enough. Setting up siege is just plain mean and unsportsmanlike. Again, my views. Others will argue that all is fair in love and war. I just know I wouldn’t participate in it if my server was doing it. There are plenty of other ways for me to find some laughs that aren’t at the expense of others.

Whenever my server is being spawn trapped I try and urge them to follow me to the alternative exits that I have never seen be spawn trapped, alas, no one listens so I take matters into my own hands and raise a group of my guildies to create a flanking force and allow the others to rush. You guys should try this too if your server is being spawn trapped.
Nothing forces stupid people to run out that exit, but they will run out the exit providing a steady stream of fodder and thus people will do that setup every afternoon.
It is entirely valid and up to players to deal with it. That said I always find it funny watching them set that stuff up. Nothing screams ‘I am terrified of fighting’ like setting up siege at a spawn.
The way I look at it is,
If a military force occupied a territory and claimed it for their own,
They would patrol the outer border of their territory (IE: Your spawn exit) to prevent hostile invaders from entering.
They wouldn’t just let enemy soldiers wander into their land unchecked.

Think: why should they allow you to leave your spawn point to capture bases?
They are cutting your reinforcements. Which i’d call a valid tatic…

I find the best way to draw people out from their spawn and give us endless badges is to use fireworks. For some reason this makes people so mad they will just continue to rush over and over again.

Why not change maps then? You will only get spawn camped if you are outnumbered, and you can’t really do much on that state… Now if you are being spawn camped in 4/4. Your server have some serious issues…

That’s cool. You see it as valid. Others do too. But much like Liquid I like to find my laughs elsewhere …. And it’s cool, in the current t2 match we haven’t seen this happen, though they could have. But it’s good for your upcoming competitors to know that a good number of your commanders apparently view this as a fair practise, so that when they do it to you, you won’t complain.
Has any server out there camped all three exits. Not sure why people have an issue when there are alternative exits and maps to avoid running out to your death.

It’s a lot like camping in the jumping puzzles really. Some might say it’s not very sporting tactics, but in the end they are not exploiting or hacking anything.
Personally, I wouldn’t condone such actions, because I’m in WvW to partake in the fun.. Not derive pleasure from others misery.
WvW isn’t war… It’s a game. If people want to make that argument, then I say when you die, that’s it. No rezzing. No Way Points. Your character is dead and you lose everything they had.

While yes it is a valid tactic, our guild chooses not to do it as it does create that animosity and creates disrespect for one another. There’s nothing wrong with it, some choose to do it, others don’t.

For me, spawn camping is a tactic to break a server’s morale on that map and force them to move to another map. By doing so the dominant server can do upgrades and hold more points.

Yup it’s a valid tactic. It breaks the opponents’ morale while increasing yours specifically those opponents who are willing to be broken. What I don’t get is why people keep coming back to that entrance where enemies are camping though, personally, if I see our BL pushed all the way to spawn camp, I’ll come out on the other side exits…never in front, and try to be more unpredictable. I play on SEA time in our server (our weakest), and it’s when we are pushed all the way back to spawn in EB and also in our BL…so I get a dose of this camping almost on a daily basis even if my server is currently winning the matchup. Me and some regular WvW buddies at that timezone would simply walk out the other exits…problem solved. Though, the coverage issue is another problem altogether. But solely addressing being camped, simply walk the other way around.

I don’t like spawn camping unless it’s around asian time and a certain guild comes online with 50 members that steamroll everything!

i actually have had my fair share of “fun fights” at camp spawns. either being camped or my server camping. i’ve never used or seen siege being used when camping other’s spawn points… though i’m sure it’s happened on every server. individuals can choose to participate them or not. i do think a lot of these situations can be a lot of fun though.
just the other day when heading into EB, enemy server was spawn camping with siege. a bunch of my servermates were trying to push forward.. then i notice a fellow server-mate whom i’ve recognized and stood alongside in many battles.. drops shadow refuge. i step into it. a few more step into it. the house disappears and we all rush up, take siege out, a few of the enemy with us. and we’re on the map. all without communication and i thought that was kind of cool. : ))
valid tactic? sure. you’re preventing enemies from invading you’re land, even if you’re taken what’s not yours. gives time to reinforce. ensure yaks get in uncontested. finish upgrades… is it honorable? that’s a different story here and won’t get into that. to each their own i will say and who are we to define what other’s idea of fun is? we can’t impose onto other our own ideals.. but we CAN hopefully show them through action.
if you didn’t enjoy it or feel comfortable partaking in it, you didn’t participate so good for you. : )) keep playing the way you do and enjoy and you’ll soon enough notice, there are more like-minded players around you than you’d expect.

You cant get yaks into the keep w/out pushing them back. I have no idea how it works against competent players as there are plenty of exits.

You cannot spawn camp in this game. The term is derived from FPS’ers and referred to being insta killed upon respawning from a previous death. GW2 has a safe area where you cannot be killed in and in which you respawn in, however you can kill from this area or place counter siege there as well. So you have the advantage.
- If your moronic and run out and die more than once alone then I have no sympathy for you.
- If you don’t wait for a organized push attempt to clear then I have no sympathy for you.
- If you don’t check the other exits to leave from are clear again I have no sympathy for you.
- If none of the above occur and you don’t go to another map to play, again I have no sympathy for you.

No disrespect but they field 10 – 1 our numbers in that time slot and claw back the ratings for 4 hours a day at 550+. We want better competition for the rest of our coverage that is fairly solid and we are only getting that for 30 minutes at a time in T3.
Siege just aloud us to defend with less so we could hold off the marauding YB w3 EB players.

It’s a dumb thing to do. If you’ve maxed out every map, go do JPs or something while the other servers give you something to take back.
On this occasion FA was doing this in the middle of NA PT, I’m sorry but what else are we to do? DB is our threat to going to T2 due to their pvdooring SEA guilds. No disrespect but they field 10 – 1 our numbers in that time slot and claw back the ratings for 4 hours a day at 550+. We want better competition for the rest of our coverage that is fairly solid and we are only getting that for 30 minutes at a time in T3.
Wow. I wondered why we have fewer and fewer people in WvW every day.
Today I logged into Eternal Battlegrounds, excited for some good fights when I saw two commander tags at the Blue spawn point. I rolled my eyes and immediately knew what was happening. I ran down there to take a little peek and I was shocked. My server had set up SIEGE to spawn camp the other server…
Is this a valid tactic? Or does it just show the low morality of my server? I for one am ashamed and feel terrible. Essentially, I feel that the Blue team’s overall experience was being ruined by these members. I won’t mention names of either server, but I’m sure they know who they are.
There are three exits to the main spawn. It’s really hard to truly spawn camp.
I don’t get all this complaining. Of course it’s a valid and legit tactic. Not only for humiliation, but actually also has some tactical and strategic value. You set up siege at their spawn to keep them in that area and buy time while your defensive upgrades are ticking. Seems legit to me? If ANet didn’t want us to set up siege at spawns, they wouldn’t make it possible to set up siege at spawn. Easy as that.
As for the “fairness” argument: WvW isn’t fair at all anyways. It’s not really fair to jump on an up-leveled player when you’re running a lvl80 full exotics/ascended character yourself, is it? Should you stop doing it? Hell, no.
And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.
People forget that it’s a game and that the other side wants to have fun too, or they’ll take their ball and go home. Some people don’t care. Take your pick.

If it works, it works but I don’t think it does. Usually I’ve seen this end up horribly for the campers. Either most of them get bored and leave, with a few newbies staying behind not realizing what’s going on and getting stomped, or the other server’s zerg comes in and uses the two other routes to sneak up behind the campers and wipe them out.

So your one commander is attempting to demoralize them so they do not play and you are complaining they do not come out enough. Maybe you guys should get together and work out what you want.
