Suggestion for commanders
Not a bad idea actually.
Commanders also need priority queue. Being disconnected on a full map and logging back in with a 2 hour queue is devastating to your guild and the match.

I can see everyone spending 100g just to get in to WvW quicker, but I do agree in spirit.

So then we have people buying commander status just for priority queue. O.o
If you are willing to pay 100g to get into WvW quicker, you are hardcore and probably deserve to be in there.

IMO, Commanders should never be chat restricted. We use /s, /m, and /t constantly, well until I get suppressed then I have to have someone type it. Then they get suppressed and so on. There is nothing worse than /s at a certain time in battle just to find you cant say anything.
Gold is very easy to farm, and I only see commander as a pretentious idea. Personally I would like the ability to stop commanders from appearing on my map.
A problem I see with your suggestion means that they can commander title up, buff the group, commander title down. A group of commanders would buff groups probably too much. A fix for that is if you drop commander status you get booted from wvw so as to not abuse your suggestion.
All we need is a bunch of blue dots running around confusing the masses. There should be a limit as to how many can be used on one server at a time. I have already seen the problem of 4-6 people barking out orders in chat and only one commander on the map.

That works if the idea is for players to stay with their commanders. However when I run commander I am more traditional and fundamental in their operation. I do not accept twenty to thirty players as a zerg following me unless its a keep-strike or zone-defense.
There are a lot of things I can say about commanders as suggestions. However, I believe that if I open my mouth, every commander is going to point the finger and say “I am not guilty of X” rather than actually think about what is being said.
I rather help and support those who need and want help.
What I DO want as the commander tag itself is to be able to have four colors:
Red = Assault
Blue = Defense
Green = Cover (Floating) // Support
Yellow = Economy
Have me choose one when I activate the tag to send a message to everyone on what kind of an operation I am running. It would help greatly since it would have people follow the correct commander outside the VOIPs and other chat stuff.
If you are a commander you are already looking at your map 80%+ game time so your ability to fight is highly restricted anyway. If you spend alot of time and effort micromanaging your character you are probably doing it wrong unless your options are so narrow that winning the battle right in front of you is your only option.
I don’t know how you do it on your server but in Borderlands we frequently coordinate 2 to 4 separate teams and the commander isn’t necessarily running with any of those teams. Its entirely possible (I would say necessary) for a commander to be distanced from the action at times. I’ve seen people command whilst not even in the game. That was possible because the information about enemy and ally unit movement and numbers was accurate and consistent. If its bad and you are being fed incorrect or misleading information, the only use for your account is to verify the quality of that information.
I’m amazed anyone has serious problems with commanders who don’t really command. If you are a commander worth your weight in salt, you will already be influential enough that when you say something, other people will listen to you and relay in chat as necessary.
Piteous, how on earth does your server have 4 to 6 people barking orders at the same time? Part of being a good commander is being able to step back and see when your own team is eating itself. That sometimes means stepping down and letting people make the mistakes they are going to make, with or without your intervention. Its a learning experience for them.
To be honest, someone who talks and never listens to what is going on around them is unsuitable for command. So if you have 4 to 6 people barking orders and actively working against each other, its fairer to say you have no commanders online at that point.

And secondly, I lead the charge. I’m not a stupid range or cowardly Commander who stands near the back afraid of getting a bit of muck on my shiny armour.
Its not a bloodlust, its just good business.
Oh and on the note of Commanders shouting over each other.
It simply doesn’t happen, PvE Commanders or “noobs with com” generally speakittentle and get ignored (because they are just there to be wannab’s) compared to the consistent WvW Commanders who everyone knows, loves and trusts.
And every half decent WvW Commander knows all the other Commanders so if you’ve got a problem it usually boils down to your guild.
I mean, if say [OBEY] guild Commander and guildies are leading a zerg then why in hell would I step in there, say as a [LOL] guild Commander, and order them about. No one does that.
And then inside my guild, the [Os] guild, we have a hierarchy anyway. Inwhich I’ll shadow the ranking Commander and reinforce his/her wishes.
Simple. Social. Understanding.

He could be like a juggernaut with lots of health similar to a golem and plenty of knockbacks like the guardian elite or a really loud shout that fears alot of people but can’t kill very well
As for switching from commander to non commander make the buffs attached the commander himself if he goes down or switchs out buffs go away

That’s a great idea, but I have yet to see that many commanders on the same server often. I think it’s a great concept, but people get bored if Red commander out there kicking kitten and taking everything most if not all people will be with him while the Yellow,blue, Green commanders will be ignored. If they raised the player cap for amount of players i could see this happening but with the culling and lag I don’t see this happening

The cooldown on a fear skill that would mimic a normal attack skill would be lethal in WvW. And I’m a Guardian anyway, I passively heal my zerg and add might etc as I run about. I couldn’t see the benefits unless they are extreme. I can just picture people now constantly being scattered about by fear and running back and forth.. Snoooooore. Theres not fun in that.
Don’t get me wrong, its a good idea even though I’d dislike it personally. But anything Anet came up with would either ruin WvW because it would be too Overpowered or ruin the Commander rank, to which the Commanders would probably disappear and WvW would descend back into its less organised and boring state.

I get targeted anyway by enemies because they can see my Commander buff tag without a Giant “Hello come kill me because I’m important” banner above my head. Even with the same HP as a Champion you can’t last very long in battle against a Keep or Towers siege which would surely be raining down on me.
Oh and on different coloured Commander tags for Attack, defence etc.
As a Commander you switch from attack and defence so often that that would be really pointless.
I have supply teams running behind me as I attack a tower. Only a terrible Commander would be doing one thing at a time.
But I heard talk ages ago that Commander wasn’t finished and that we are supposed to have ‘unique’ emotes, like /Defend and /Attack
Not sure what they are supposed to do though, probably a map shout.

Well what I would do with this new “commander”
40k hp
not sure about armor/toughness
Maybe special Aura that gives special boons within range
Maybe be able to switch Aura
Red-might few stacks maybe 5?
Blue-healing 15 sec regen
Yellow-Swiftness 10 sec swiftness
Green-Idk not sure
Keep in mind these Auras aren’t going to be game changing miniscule
I’m not sure about these numbers so i’m just throwing them out there
As for the flag
- Smack with giant flag doesn’t do much dmg but it’s something autoattack
#2Paint a target like target for everyone to see who to take out/what seige no cooldown
#3Grant some swiftness for commander idk how much
#4Loud shout that fears enemies like 3 second fear for like 30 sec cooldown idk
#5Remove the flag/tag/boons everything he is normal player
Give commander more ultilities such as different color name in chat so it can be easier seen and Priority queue for commander and other stuff
Commander should also be changed so it is earned with like badges of honor or capturing a certain amount of objectives
Commander role should be a risk and honor to hold.
I am just rambling now and that’s why I’m putting up random sentences
If you are willing to take the role you should risk you life
Give commander more tools like maybe a seige pouch just for holding seige
Lastly if your guild knows you and will follow you and you want to fight you can do so without a commander tag. The tag is like a beacon for other people to follow
*note i’m speaking from a suggestion stance so don’t take my words literally
And i very much doubt Anet is going to impletment any of these tools anytime soon because of other issues

Different color name for commander in chat so easily seen
Seige pouch for commanders
Priority Queue
And on a side note as a commander you are important and stand out maybe i’ve watched too many movies where you see the commander on a white horse like in civil war with all his men behind him on foot
