I’m looking at you, Rev..
This thread is directed to whoever is thinking in joining a T1 server or a server with big potential of reaching T1 before transfer fees are implemented, then seriously reconsider it first. Here is my story for anyone interested to know fundamental facts and experiences that might serve for you to decide otherwise in this situation.
I play WvW 90% of the time I’m logged and I have helped and witnessed my server (Seafarer’s Rest) raising from low-mid tiers to tier 2 with a medium populated server, organization and tactical thinking was the key to success, it was quality over quantity considering most of the servers we went against were normally bigger in numbers but even still we managed to hold our grounds and slowly rise to top tiers, when we eventually reached T2.
Our WvW community was aware of how difficult it would be from there on, so like any other server in ascension was doing at the time, we resorted to recruiting in other servers, including NA servers, after a few days we had a large influx of guilds who were able to give the server a nearly 24h coverage which made the fight in T2 much more easy, thus we won and it was finally the time to meet the big ‘sharks’, the top tier and holy grail of WvW, but it wasn’t really that, no.
It was an utter disappointment, everything I thought T1 would be, just backfired miserably when you see enemy zergs so large and clustered that they sweep anything on their way without contest because the culling and skill lag makes it very difficult to act, anything you’d try to achieve with smaller numbers and tactics would just be blown out by the endless zerging which is the main aspect and defines T1 – Zerging.
Honestly, I hated the fact that this server was corrupted by the need of resorting to outside help to reach this state, I find myself having a lot difficulties having fun whenever I try to do anything alone or with my guild group, everything is easily undone by the zerg, it’s a powerless feeling and the lack of satisfaction that I’m actually not contributing a nickel when I used to think otherwise in the past when it mattered what you’d to raise potential points.
Bottom line is, if you want to have fun, don’t think that high tiers will be more entertaining or more competitive, there is nothing competitive about being in T1 other than who has the bigger zerg and outlags the other server to death, guerrila tactics do not apply here, the zerg tactic prevails in every possible way.
I find it a shame that after playing in this server since the start to see myself with the need of changing because of this frustrating situation.
I feel you. T1 is a complete zergfest. I’m anxiously awaiting the WvW improvements coming in the next 2 months. I’m hoping they will, at the least, slowly start to change this dynamic. Along with better rewards, they really do need to make it more profitable to defend to break up this zerging mentality.
I found that happening in T2 as well, it’s very sad as it takes the fun out of playing. I recently moved to Yaks, a T4 server and discovered the “Joy of WvW” again. heh
I totally agree with Tripp, I mean really the only other option is to move servers like I did, and it shouldn’t have to be like that.
I look at it this way. A large map with lots of different objectives gives each server lots of choices … choices that make strategy and tactics important and provide opportunity for both large and small groups (even roamers) to make a significant difference. For me, that’s where the fun is.
A tier with hoards of players in it is the equivalent of a small map … a tier with fewer players in it is the equivalent of a large map.
It seems to me that the most desirable conditions for any server are to have a reasonably uniform population around the clock and be in a tier where the populations are similar among the three servers. Other than that, I personally see little benefit in being in a higher tier that doesn’t involve lots of ego.
Honestly I don’t think any guild should be transferring to Tier 1, they already have WAY more WvW population than TWENTY ONE other servers. :P
I’m currently in a T7 Server, which should soon be going up to T6. We were once in T1 for a while at the very beginning of GW2, but as soon as the zergfests starting hitting in (Our server was also guilty of it to a degree at the time), the whole experience was ruined.
Now we’re in T7, I really enjoy WvW with my Guild, the choices we make as a Guild have a real impact in WvW . Something we cannot achieve in the high tier Servers.
I could not agree more, I’m from SFR rest myself. And I would love nothing more than to drop out of tier 1 but seeing our point total, it’ll be hard to stay out of it permanently.

a few friends and I have been contemplating moving to YB ourselves. we are really tiered of running into a 50 plus zerg every time you round a corner. kind of figure if we move to a lower pop tier it would be easier to get into some small scale skirmishes. we will probably wait a bit after paid transfers and see how things settle out.
zerg fest is part of wvw even if you move to low populated servers they will increase their population I don’t exactly see how t1 is bad XD eventually every tier will be like this
btw is quite fun having 8 ppl defending a tower against 30+ ppl haha
Hey guys, just wanted to give my opinion about my recent experience in T1 NA (I recently transfered). It’s true that the numbers are much higher than what I was used to see lower on the ladder, but it doesn’t equal “mindless zerging”. Unless you roll with a PUG the guilds are all working togheter and communicate well and every squad moves with an objective in mind. It’s certainly not the place to roll with a 5 man gank group like you’d do in lower tiers, but so far the players I’ve met in T1 are all very skilled and there’s just as much fun to be had when running with an organized 20 man guild.
For players looking to experience small scale skirmishes I’d reccommend to stay away from T1, but if you enjoy large scale battles like I do, T1 is awesome !
This is not the truth. There are zergs in T1. There are also small squads, solos, roamers, killers, contract teams, specialized build groups, dance parties, golem rushes, siege battles, underwater warfare, bribery, trickery, feints and counter attacks, three way battles…
In short everything.
Remember folks, you have a mind of your own. If you want to join us on T1, JQ would love to have you and I would love to personally show you how wrong this guy is.

I’m from SOS and I support this message. But move to our server instead.

I especially love the feints in the dance parties!
I mean last Saturday night I had a Fever, so I decided to be a little bit Dirty, and Step Up 2 the streets and Stomp The Yard around in WvW. So I took Center Stage and gave a little Flash to my friends on SoS of which I will be Saving the Last Dance.

I thought SOS was full?

Not to burst your bubble but no server has “rose to the top” with lesser #s. don’t know why servers always want to claim this
For sure Tier 1 server will defend those tier, they have to recruit people.
I prefer the casual nature and gank squad of lower tier. More fun, less zerging.
Tier 1 = few really good guilds with millions of pugs running around yelling where is the Zerg in map chat. Then if they lose make post on forums about how it’s unfair.
Well, tier 1 = high population servers, so, of course you will encounter all kinds of zerg size and type there. Furthermore, the queue could be terrible as well, and the long queue is the reason why I avoid T1 servers.

And less people to fight. There is still a lot you can do as a small roaming group amidst zergs of people. I and my roaming band of merry men (and woman) do so every time we’re out. Also even when my guild is not on I find others like me and group with them.
For sure people in other tiers will tell you there’s is better because they want more people.
Honestly, just go where you want.
