You arnt rendering those people because the server hasnt told you they exist yet. Server side issue.

While that would be nice…it still wouldn’t allow me to attack them.
As it is when I get into those fights where my teammates are telling me in teamspeak that we are “surrounded” but I see absolutely no one…all I can do is spam my ground-targeted attacks and hope I’m doing something useful….Meanwhile my screen is filled with green teammates…which I can’t really target or do anything directly to…so the fact that they are all showing up is kind of pointless.
But like the other person said…it probably wouldn’t work anyway since the problem is about loading the players and not about the number of “characters” on screen at once. Regardless, this is hopefully one of the highest priorities right now. Fighting in a battle where my framerate is in the 40’s, but for some reason I can’t see my enemy….it’s just ridiculous. I remember someone saying that holding ctrl should show their names…that doesn’t seem to work either.

I agree that deception should be apart of “war”….however it should be deception that we all have control over….not deception in the form of the game deciding seemingly at random who can see enemies and who can’t….like selective stealth that no one has control over. That isn’t deception, it’s just “chaos”.

I don’t believe “unable to see target 1m in front of you” can be called deception when it’s clearly not an intended game mechanic (like stealth)
Dots might be a easy temporary fix. But range of it should be very very limited. At least half of the range compared to friendly dots.

It provides location info on the enemy, so unless it only draws enemies in in direct line of sight (ie nothing outside the screen or behind stuff) it gives out information that should not be available to the player.

I fear this is true, it’s inherent with the engine and poor optimization within it. Sad because this game will have no longevity for me in its current state.

Pvp is unplayable in this condition.
This is a pvp game. Without pvp it has nothing.
It used to run great. Even at cap wvw population. The second we heard them use the word culling the entire game fell apart. Its costing them millions in revenue no doubt and with pvp centric beta programs abundant thousands of players every week.

I’d agree with Kracin. Get the game client to display the names an a generic model first.
The issue is that the server sends a huge list of all of the players in the zerg down along with details of what gear they are wearing etc. The game client gets all this quickly enough, thats not an issue. The issue is that the game client then has to load all of those textures and models into memory. On top of that, by the time it starts getting to drawing all those players, they have all moved and it has to process the new positions etc and redraw at which time the have ganked you and half of your team.
If you’re lucky, you get to see them running off.

something else that might help and they could kill two birds with one stone.
Make loot in WvW auto loot into your invi. Would not rendering bags help some? Most of the time in large fights my bags of loot render before the corpses do!!!!! The Animations also appear before players do even miles away couldn’t they trim that way back?
Maybe also getting rid of nameplates all together giving the game more strategy and depth wouldn’t that make pvp better all around?

^ they have stated already that autospawning loot in your inventory caused too many issues
No re:red dots.
They were handy in GW, but in GW2 I`ve been able to (had to, I play Ele` ;p) hide almost in plain sight & watch dozens of enemy toddle past a few feet away.

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
if we’re really lucky, a friendly botter will solve the problem for us and tell us how to remove the game models or replace the textures/models with a simplified version, making loading faster etc. Seen it in a few other games where pvp was bugged and induced crashes, so a few resourceful individuals figured out how to remove the animations that caused the problems long before the devs fixed it.
Good lord, no dots please.

Not quite. The server does transfer the data to your client, you can in fact do damage to them when they are invisible, and you get the damage number, which means there is communication between client and server. To deal damage you must know the position.
The issue lies in slow loading of model textures and data from the disk. It is most likely queued in a background thread, and it takes just ta few seconds too long when there are many people incoming. This results in them appearing way too late, on top of you.
The fix is, I repeat again, to render red dots as enemies on the map, this way we would at least know something is there, even if the models are still loading. You only need position for that, and that you have.
Don’t like the idea of spots on map. All they need is to show name tags. If it really is a problem with slow loading models then at least let some kind of model load. Like everyone has human low res model with just solid colour skin.
