to break WvW as the gloom and doomers had forecast. When I see them used, which isn’t all that often, they’re used tactically as opposed to being smeared all over the map. We don’t see thieves hiding in corners with their dangly bits exposed unable to stealth. We don’t see people abandoning mesmers in a pool of tears.

I think we’re seeing a classic example of people over-reacting before we had any facts to go with or experience to fall back on. At least, that’s what I’m seeing.

The biggest fail in this story that they could have added the reveal trap to the ranger class and bring the class somewhat back to WvW life…

Personally i run WvW almost everyday for hours. I never get ripped off by a supply trap neither our guild thiefs moaned they got revealed by a trap.

The traps are too expensive, and almost useless without it being profession bound.

Agreed. It’s a love/hate thing, I love that ANet releases information on changes but I hate how they give us nothing other than 1 sentence which leads to all the topics and mass panic.

I will say: if they make “user takes no damage” and “oil can not be damaged” as a part of this mastery, WvW population will go insane. More damage – longer burn duration – small range increase are the only viable updates I could see happening, then again Oil is almost pointless because it’s the first thing to go, might be why they want to introduce a trait line. Why give a trait line to something that never lasts past the first 30 seconds of attacking a tower/keep?

The AC changes made hitting a door pretty difficult and if Oil Mastery gets a big boost, we could see more treb/cata sieges which would be exactly what most of the WvW community doesn’t want. Time will tell.

You know… the reveal trap idea in interesting. However, I wonder if that would result in rangers being pigeon-holed into that type of a role. If that’s a utility skill, for example, should rangers be “required” to carry it, much like many mesmers are expected to have veil and portal on their bars? It would have that potential as a skill.

Now, if it were tied to a “profession specific” thing (on an “F” key) with a decent cool down I could see that being a lot more viable and not burdening.

Well if it would become a “required skill” for rangers at least there would be 1 thing in WvW that requires ranger presence. Mesmers have to run veils, portals for the teamwork, why cant ranger have something like this. Also It could be a utility trap like every other ranger trap but with reasonable cool down and less reveal time. For instance 10 sec reveal instead of 30 and effect only 5 ppl instead of the 20.

Also your idea with the “F” skill is viable as well. But we know this is not going to happen.

I know we use a ton of the supply ones, as they are ridiculously broken and can be made OP if used properly.

I think the main reason why the QQing about them went by the wayside is the method of obtaining them and arming them. It just makes it as so the average WvWer doesn’t bother with them.

But trust me, in the right hands I have seen the supply traps turn imminent/impending failure, into an easy victory while defending objectives.

Have yet to see a stealth one, that I know of, which makes my thief and mesmer happy.

Karka traps.

15 badges, 525 karma (I think that’s right), 1 karka shell.

When a foe triggers it a certain number (10 maybe) of baby karka spawn and do that baby karka thing that they do. Have them be indiscriminate when they spawn, however, attacking foe and ally alike.

Alternate cost could be that it requires 10 supply and 1 karka shell to set the the trap, removing the karka shell from the purchase price.

Good point. OK, scrap the karka shells. I still want babies.

It does add the potential idea of a third component for specialty traps however.

You cannot farm Karka shells in WvW so this wouldn’t work.

Take out the shell and perhaps increase the karma cost and I think a lot of people would find that sort of trap hilarious. I would certainly use it and would laugh mightily at my foes as they ran around with karka on their heads being shot by cannon fire.

The fact that they made it the only way to reveal the perma invis thief’s was to use a trap that cost 10 supplies and 4 seconds to cast, not to mention the cost of buying them, and then you have to relay on the thief running threw it was a joke in the first place, they should have just stated, we are happy with the perma invis thief’s and left it at that.

Most probably don’t buy em due to cost. Am sure it will be part of the random loot table for the upcoming changes to wvw achievement reward chests Anet mentioned a few days ago.

They’re not used a lot because they’re expensive and impractical for 95% of encounters. If they were a lot cheaper, or cost karma only, I think more people would be inclined to use them (not that we want that).

Honestly, ANet could have written a 10 page blog post, ran a 3 min advertisement on every TV station during primetime, and it wouldn’t have mattered — thieves still would have collectively flipped their kitten. Heck some of them still are.
