Ascalons Requiem – Blackgate
Public Blackgate WvW Forum: http://bit.ly/X3Bifl
Q:
Have they released a full or partial list of the WvW Abilities that will be purchasable with World Ability Points?
I searched and couldn’t find anything beyond the March 22nd Blog post: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-vs-world-introducing-world-ranks-and-more/
World Ability Points can be spent on unique WvW abilities that improve your character in whatever roll you may find yourself in—anything from increasing the amount of supply you can hold to increasing defense from siege attacks to new siege weapon skills. You can train multiple times in the same ability, which increases the effectiveness of the ability, but also increases the cost.
Is it something along the lines of this (from a discussion on these forums about 4 months back)?
Were I to design a Realm Ability like system for WvW, this is what I would do. Maybe some of these will give anet some ideas, who knows.
WvW Ability List
- 1 hour reuse timer on each ability
- 3 levels for each ability
- Ability points earned a max of 1 per week
- Requires completion of WvW weekly (points given for kills, captures, and defenses)
- World based, so you need to start over from scratch if you move to another serverName – Effectiveness per level – Description
Scrounger – 5/10/15 – Player summons x supply.
Combat Repairer – 50/75/100 – Player takes x% less damage when repairing. (30 seconds)
Combat Resser – 45/70/95 – Player takes x% less damage when ressing. (30 seconds)
Yak Motivator – 10/20/30 – Player gives targeted supply yak an x% speed bonus that stacks with other bonuses. (120 seconds)
Yak Protector – 45/70/95 – Player gives targeted supply yak a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Siege Protector – 25/45/65 – Player gives targeted siege item a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Guard Leader – 25/45/65 – Player gives targeted veteran guard a buff providing x% damage reduction. (30 seconds)
Battlefield Healer – 50/100/150 – Player gains x% healing bonus when ressing downed or killed enemies. (30 seconds)
Pocket Sieger – 15/30/45 – Player MacGyver’s together a makeshift version of the selected siege item that works at x% effectiveness compared to a normal one.
Secret Passager – n/a – Player can port into a contested waypoint due to knowledge of secret tunnels.
Dodgey Sieger – 25/45/65 – Player takes x% less damage when operating siege equipment. (60 seconds)Can anyone think of anymore?
Can anyone steer me to a post or blog with more info? The new system sounds intriguing.
A:
Nice catch.
Name – Cost – Descrption
Guard Killer – 1/2/3/4/5 – Increases damage to enemy guards.
Defense Against Guards – 1/2/3/4/5 – Reduces damage taken from enemy guards.
Mercenaries Bane – 1/2/3/4/5 – Increases damage done to, and taken from, Mercenaries.
Siege Bunker – 2/4/6/8/10 – Reduces damage taken by siege.
Siege Might – 5/10/15/20/25 – Increases damage done with siege.
Supply Capacity – 20/40/60/80/100 – Increases supply capacity.
Cannon Mastery – 5/10/15/20/25 – Improve cannon use.
Ballista Mastery – 5/10/15/20/25 – Improve ballista skills.
Interesting stuff. Siege bunker seems like a bargain if my price estimates are correct.
Edit: corrected the cost of siege bunker

Mind linking it?
(yes, google, search, etc… hoping for some community here)
The opening post has the WvW update post link.

IMHO its all fairly mundane and doesn’t qualify at all as character progression. Your suggestions above are far more interesting.

Well, they said they plan to add more. Starting off with more mundane ones is probably safer balance-wise.
I’m pretty excited to try them out. It’s exactly the type of system that will always give me something more to look forward to when running around and having fun in WvW.
Now the big question is what the kitten do I want to focus on.
Your abilities, along with theirs are not very good, and provoke zero reason to actually both to do World vs World…
Though you at least a better job at it.
Anet just doesn’t understand the game they poorly tried to copy (daoc) despite all their hype of “Oh we loved DAOC”

A lot of the DAOC Realm Abilities became some core concepts in GW2 character design.

I agree that they’re not nearly as impactful and defining as DAOC’s were, but long gone are the days when designers could get away with that level of affect in an earned system like WvW Abilities.

Rofl, you realize the amount of abilities DAOC has now without taking into account RA’s….
Vastly more then Guild Wars 2.
The new WvW abilities coming are being done kitten to try and stop the amount of players who are just quitting the game out right….They threw together the system in a very short time…

What does the “amount” of abilities have to do with anything, aside from cluttering your UI and making class balance even more of a nightmare?

The whole class balance thing is a cop out.
I’ve watched MMO developers continue to dumb down their game, and reduce the amount of options on class diversity…Remove the ability to distinguish your class from another, Remove the ability to have real options with your class only to have the same balance issues as games that didn’t have this option.
GW2 has had balance issues, just like DAOC, and comparable.. the difference is DAOC had 40+ classes, and a vastly more complex PVP and character system.. making it flat out the better game.
Hell at this point, GW2 can’t even compare to Warhammer Online, which is is like DAOCs kitten little brother..
Nice catch.
I played TF2 for years, so I am accustomed to hidden easter eggs in blog posts. This was just blatantly obvious.
I think Siege Bunker is actually 2/4/6/8/10. It looks like he spent 6 points already on it if you add up his total points (assuming 0 points at rank 1 and 1 point per rank earned).
It looks like abilities will take 15, 30, 75, or 300 points to maximize, and maximizing supply capacity may take as many ranks as maximizing every other ability combined…

complex =| good
deep = good
complex =| deep
GW2 does have a depth issue in more than a few places, the game could really really use more build diversity and options in general, but plain sticking more crap on the screen just sounds like it’d make it a ginormous confusing clusterkitten than more deep, interesting or meaningful.

The ability list is failing to give what alot of DAOC players wanted… the ability to be stronger vs actual enemy players. At this point i think most people are just waiting for TESO’s 3way realm vs realm system because it is already confirmed to have a DAOC style realm rank system in place and consists of 3 skill trees to keep building your character in AvA / WvW/ RvR

Yup, you’re right. He has level 2 in Siege Bunker and it costs 6 points to get to level 3. I’ll edit my post to correct it.

Hard to accept your valid points when you overstate to this degree. DAoC is a shadow of GW2 in sales and success. It was also primarily PvP focused unlike GW2. Even still fights were often sparse and it had its share of issues including development that drove it over a cliff.
Warhammer… ughh… game sucked and was super buggy. It bombed hard.
Also number of classes has zip to do with how great PvP is. Plenty of games have few skills, few classes and are fantastic PvP platforms. Even GW2 including combos makes for a surprising amount of cross class dynamics that are hard to quantify.
DAoC regardless of its many issues, is still widely accepted as the best faction vs faction PvP game ever released. Will GW2 be able to make any significant claims in 10 years? I think GW2 is a lot like WAR, great potential, but hindered by one poor decision after another.
This WvW patch will result in people leaving the game.
Would love more info on the march update. Wish they wouldn’t last minute patch notes all the time.
Gotta love those blanket statements like “PvPers want this” … no, SOME pvpers do. Personally one thing that I like about the game is that there ISNT such things that make you more powerful vs other players.
I’m sure that were most of these same players to lose to someone else with a higher rank than them they’d blame it on them having the extra rank points “rewarded cos they play more” instead of concede they could possibly be outplayed. Pretty sure they’d claim the opposite when they won too.
If you want it, that’s fine, go ahead and say so.. but blanket statements like “Everyone wants this” are just ill founded and wrong. I play only WvW and I don’t care for such things one bit, I’m also not the type to quit once the grind is complete so carrots aren’t needed to keep me interested.

You are responding to one person, since only one person said anything resembling what you describe, further that player did not say ‘everyone’ or ‘PvPers’, he said ‘a lot of DAOC players’, which is probably a fair assessment regardless of how you tried to spin it.
While I personally am not sure I want a vertical progression system, I do know I was expecting more then 8 of the most boring, unimaginative abilities that they could come up. The rank system, details that we have seen so far, is likely best described as ‘bare minimum’ of what they could have done and shows an incredible lack of interest in making WvW a major part of their game.

It’s far more than this thread, this thread is just the one that made me go “Urgh.. kitten #8221; :P
Not a lot of new info here, but still worth reading.
