In light of the coming WvW enhancements, I started rolling around some scenarios in my head, theorizing how the overall WvW landscape might be altered by systemic changes.
These aren’t suggestions exactly, but more of a brainstorming excercise in “how would we play the game differently” that I found fun to think about, and I figured I’d post ’em up and see what theory crafting went on.
1 What if: Players could only pick up supplies from non-supply camp sources.
2 What if: Supply camps had walls.
3 What if: You had to own your borderland’s keep to access EB
4 What if: You could repair siege with supply
5 What if: Score was tallied based on how long you owned something, rather than who owns it when the timer rolls over.
6 What if: You could command and store NPC allies
7 What if: Defensive siege upgrades were auto-manned by npcs.
8 What if: Workers for upgrades upgraded from the outside of the objective.
9 What if: Orbs were reworked as single use siege WMDs that “powered up” at their pedestals
10 What if: Siege had to be finished by NPC caravans.
Have fun!
What if: Winning a WvW match rewarded you with gems?
What if: You could see the WvW map while not in WvW?
What if the jumping puzzle didn’t exist?
What if the JP was the lobby for WvW?
what if culling never existed
What if WvW QQ’d as much as PvE’ers do?
What if WvW earned bonuses only applied to those who participated in WvW and not to those whose whinged and cried about WvW kills in the monthly but still get WvW generated server bonuses?
What if the next round of ‘new gear’ is only available exclusively through WvW for months, like ascended gear requires fractals?
What if the WvW BL didn’t have a boring lake and actually had a beautiful forest in the middle instead….
Sigh… Underwater combat /facepalm
What if killing the enemy had a substantial impact on the score?
What if outmanned is not just +20% magic find (-.-)
What if wvw give something for wvwers (8 dungeons for skins and just 1 for wvw??? \|##
~€!!!!!) ><
What if there were no free server transfer, ever.
What if anet had actually paid attention to wvw.
What if support players that heal and buff would actually get some rewards from assists?
(I am broke here trying to keep 20 players healed and buffed)
What if there was a point system for guilds and individuel players. And Bonusses where given accourding the points they earned.
What if the queue system actually worked in a sensible way rather that the asinine lottery way it is now?
What if you could gear up from WvW instead of EvE (Exploit versus Environment)?
What if players you kill droped all the non-sb gear and coin they got from wvw (including harvested mats) and didnt bank on a “open loot” bag?
What if: You could use the commander and squad system for your guild without getting harrassed by other commanders and players that are leading the zone.
How about some flexibility and making a /private option so multiple groups can run together without showing the pin to anyone not in the squad.
Actually, I can tell you what would happen if Supply Camps had walls.
We’d have Pangloss.
OP5 What if: Score was tallied based on how long you owned something, rather than who owns it when the timer rolls over.
The score should be tallied based on how many people there are in the whole of WvW. The more total people, the more you score. So if you have a ninja night squad, you don’t get so many points if the enemy doesn’t turn up.
What if you could loot supply from dead players?
Most of my what ifs are around supplies. Most have been mentioned, but it is such a poorly designed part of WvW with so much potential.
What if you you could repair siege with supplies. (would have to be out of combat only or maybe like 30 seconds after last use, or some things would never die)
What if you could run supply to the tower/keep yourself and deposit it in their depot.
What if players who died with supplies had a chance to drop supplies.
What if you could drop supplies, like you can drop siege equip, to be picked up.
What if supplies came in cans, and you could throw them at enemies with a chance to knock them down.
What if like the yak you moved slower when you had supplies.
What if you could catapult supplies…
Ok I made the last couple up. But I do like my supplies!
What if engineers had some siege related abilities:
- Build siege weapons for less supply
- Increased damage from siege weapons when operated by an engineer
- Faster turning of siege weapons when operated by an engineer
- Ability to salvage siege weapons for supply
- Ability to repair siege weapons
- Ability to carry more supply (15 normally, 20 from upgraded camps)
- I would say increased range but I think trebs would mess that up so increased range on everything but trebs
- Faster movement while operating siege golems
ps – I don’t play an engineer but that class needs some serious help and everyone would want one around if they had siege related abilities.
Actually, I can tell you what would happen if Supply Camps had walls.
We’d have Pangloss.
But everyone would have one or more!
Actually a lot of these sound interesting.
-What if the number of guards at a keep/tower varied depending on how many keeps/towers you already own (across all maps)?

1 What if: Players could only pick up supplies from non-supply camp sources.
2 What if: Supply camps had walls.
Imo Supply Chain works good as it is, both cause you can defend a camp even without Walls, both cause that way it is atm you can always have a chance to fast swap em without having to deploy siege.
3 What if: You had to own your borderland’s keep to access EB
I like this idea… MUCH!
4 What if: You could repair siege with supply
On paper is a good idea but it could lead to give defenders too much upperhand.
5 What if: Score was tallied based on how long you owned something, rather than who owns it when the timer rolls over.
Seconded!
6 What if: You could command and store NPC allies
Nice idea if i could give Guards, let’s say, a more “aggressive” or “defensive” mode.
7 What if: Defensive siege upgrades were auto-manned by npcs.
I reckon this is a hidden suggestion to make Guards stronger when there are few defenders / they are outmanned, too much AI involved i guess.
8 What if: Workers for upgrades upgraded from the outside of the objective.
To make em killable? I don’t think it’s a good idea, i managed to defence / buy time in a 3 vs 20 situation with workers upgrading, should work that way imo.
9 What if: Orbs were reworked as single use siege WMDs that “powered up” at their pedestals
Aoe bonus in Range from Keep where they are stored? I concur.
10 What if: Siege had to be finished by NPC caravans.
Nah :p
Have fun!
