Seriously, I was very disappointed at the game yesterday when jade quarry got into our garrison with 8 golems. That just show me the game is centered around what…. MONEY.

@ANet: Siege Golems limitation is required as well as a limitation to the numbers of siege equipment you can have in a certain radius.

Agreed. Never underestimate the power of rear area attacks. Cut off the supply lines and disrupt reinforcements. Get your thieves to do it, since they aren’t well-suited to sieges in the first place, and they move REALLY fast.

You can just help build someone else’s siege equipment since they do require more supplies than a single person can carry. Your server has guilds that can afford to fund siege equipment even if you cannot. Your server is really good, so you have to expect they’ll be using advanced tactics even if it costs multiple gold to do so.

You can also scout to see the 8 golems early enough and say 8 golems are heading to your keep in map chat or your server vent/teamspeak. Your server is good enough that a lot of people will come defend if you give them enough warning that they can still use the waypoint at the keep.

You can also get siege designs every once in a while from loot bags, so be sure to loot everything.

Or you can take advantage of free server transfers to jump onto a worse ranked server where siege weapons are nowhere near as common. WvW plays very differently on the top servers, and it just might not be your definition of fun. But please don’t try to suggest ruining our matchup (HoD, JQ, SBI) by limiting siege equipment. The players on all 3 servers are just too good to get through defenses without planning and siege equipment. Keeps would literally never fall since people would respawn and run back before you could get a wall or gate down. The fact that we have a matchup where nothing is safe is a really fun thing for a lot of us playing on these servers.

i dont see how siege equipment = pay to win
about 90% of the items you gain via RL money are consmetic. So if having better looking armor is blinding you to death or lagging your computer thenkitten. i don’t know what to say.

no you can buy gems and sell for in game gold, letting you literally buy armor and siege equipment with irl money.

however, i dont think they spent irl money on their siege equipment.

people whove farmed dungeons for days have a lot more money than people spending irl money, unless the person spending irl money is buying hundreds of dollars worth of gems

yeh thats true but still its not pay to win. you can purchase the siege equipment via in game currency too. just one way is faster but i highly doubt thats what ppl did was spend rl money on something that doesn’t really last that long and to me pay to win = stuff you can ONLY buy with RL money thats godly.

Yes, that would be a lot of supplies! That took some good coordination to pull off IMO.

Golem Blueprints can be obtained not only with gold, but from random drops ( rare) and as a reward from the WvW jumping puzzle (random chest reward).

Now that match-ups are a lot longer, people will need to develop techniques to break down heavily fortified locations. Although very costly, it looks like one strategy has already been implemented.

I despise pay to win in my PvP and I still can’t believe Anet did this to us.

Limiting siege isn’t the answer, however. I haven’t bought golems, but I have bought other siege gear, and I certainly never opened my wallet to do it.

The proper thing to do is have a WvW currency that can’t be purchased with real money. But some greedy bean counter somewhere decided that Wallet vs Wallet would make them a lot of money. It’s virtually impossible in a close match to control all the supply, the best you can do is make it inconvenient by forcing enemies to travel a longer distance with it.

OP, go do WvW jumping puzzle. In borderlands it’s easy. Usually takes 10-15 min if there are no griefers and it rewards you with 3 blue/green items, 4-5 WvW tokens and 2 random siege blueprints. My elementalist is packin’ insane amount of siege overall and 5 golems so far just from that. So – less QQ more SPACEBAR SPACEBAR (for jumping, you get it?)!

The more you play WvWvW, the more money/badges you will have at your disposal.

WvW jump puzzle gives blueprints, you can also buy them with badges you get in WvW. It’s not alway’s gold.

I transfered to VS because I need that world completion achievment. The rest of my guild followed today.

Why? Fighting off other servers’ players in the puzzle area is preventing them from obtaining more siege. Plus, in my opinion, getting 2 more BPs for your server is a bit more valuable than, say, a lvl 4 character following the zerg. But that’s just me

You don’t need gold to buy a Siege Golem. Just spend Badges on them.
8 Siege Golems is merely 8 people that WvW enough to have badges to spend.
Pay to win is spending money to buy gems, convert to gold and buy a full Exotic set of Armor and Weapons. The difference between an 1-80 in masterwork or rares compared to an 80 in full exotic is massive.

It just shows how little you know about the game (and thing) you are complaining about…

sorry but pay 2 win does not exist here, any normal person can be decked out in top gear, unimpeded by other players in a few weeks.. once at the top, everyone has equal chance to build the same amount of things as the biggest limiting factor on siege is just the supply… it still proves so because i have had 8 golems in my inventory since the launch, havent had a reason to use any yet!

There were multiple times when my server had access to enough supply to build siege golems, but 8 gold for 8 of them is expensive.

You can also buy siege with badges BTW.. Also 8 is excessive.. I bet some lonely dude on vent said “hey lets build a golem” and 8 people built one lol

but the problem you don’t see is that 8 golems at any time is not useful at all.. only in very specific times are they even remotely useful.

go walk a fleet of golems into even a supply camp with 4-5 ballistsas, lemme know how long they last (fyi, #3 attack on a ballista will nearly 1 shot your 1 gold)

this is a very very poor argument because you dont need siege all the time.

my guild took the entire borderlands on more than 1 occassion with nothing more than a group of people dpsing doors down… flame rams come in handy on reinforced doors, but they arent needed with numbers and coordination, which will outdo siege in a lot of cases (not all, and the cases that siege can win a fight, it doesnt take 100 peices of it.. just a few)

I buy all my siege with badges. You don’t even need gold to compete if you don’t want to use money.

dont tell them that they can purchase siege with badges, or that they can get siege from 4 different puzzles, that give 2 siege each, and only take 20 minutes at the very most to get (when was the last time you made 1g in 20 mins?)

or that you get random siege drops for killing WvW npc’s (could be a little higher of a drop, but i still get plenty of these).

I spent an hour in Orr yesterday and made about 6.5g from DE and selling items and mats gathered then hoped into WvW – Eternal Battlegrounds. We had just captured SM so I dropped a gold on upgraded, I personally bought 3 Trebuchet’s and ran supply from the camps to set them up and then spent 2g on Golems so we could go take Durious, the only tower my treb’s weren’t pointed at.

After 2 more hours of WvW I made my money back mostly due to the fact my trebs and golems helped us run around the map dominating.

Right now the Gem-to-Gold exchange rate is so low that you’re just throwing your money away if you’re converting it. I think something like $20 = 1600 gems ~= 3.5g?

It would be nice if Siege Golems showed up on the map like Trebs do.

If JQ can amass 8 siege golems quickly, they deserve it.

Cut off supply. One week format is still EXTREMELY young and people don’t know proper tactics. I’m trying to teach my server (SBI) how to play in the 1 week format, but many — even the guys in TS3 — are resistant and still try to maintain the crappy tactics that worked for the 24-hour format.

I’m glad that the majority of the community see that WvW isn’t pay to win…ok yes you can pay to get stuff but that doesn’t give you and advantage as it’s more profitable to do it in game with puzzles, gold or marks…

Don’t change WvW, I like it, it can be an unfair animal which eats you alive but that’s the whole point.

You don’t know that any of those golems were bought with real cash. You got beaten and you are rationalizing your loss. Oh it must be that they are spending real money. Sounds to me like you just got outplayed. Imagine the coordination and supply needed to build 8 siege golems outside your front gate. On my server if we are gonna take a garrison/keep someone (usually one of the commanders) announces what we are doing in /map chat and asks for donations from everyone on the map. usually they come rolling in. 10 silver here and there adds up pretty fast.

imho, i would love to know that someone spent actual cash to buy a siege golem.. because when we take out a siege golem in under 20 seconds witha group, we can laugh and say “kitten that was 7 bucks wells spent!” lol

A lot of players actually have a crapton of money already just from playing the game. Just last night, this guy I know first got 3 siege golems and failed to assault a keep…then he bought COMMANDER. That’s ONE HUNDRED GOLD. And he got it all from playing the game, not buying with gems.

So if people are already paying 100g for commander, it’s more than possible to see all those siege golems.

I’d be more worried about the food buffs and buffs you can get from locked chests which all work in WvW (+15% run speed buff for an hour, 5% dmg reduction, …)

That siege costs in-game money is normal imho. (that other RvR based game was the same.. siege had a monetary cost there too)

You do realize that you can buy siege with badges of honor, right? A lot of us don’t use the w3 gear because the stats don’t go with our builds, so what else is there to spend them on? Siege, and LOTS of it. I’ve acquired over 1000 badges and have never spent a dime on gems, or paid for siege with silver/gold. The w3 gear just doesn’t fit my build, and it looks ugly too. Make sure you pick up your bags!
