Charr Female (player) voice.
If the voice wasn’t feminine sounding, what would be the point in even playing a female Charr?
The voice and their overall size is the only thing that is actually different between a male and female Charr.
Well, I guess the females do look more like actual cats too, but that’s besides the point.
And as usual, my wording makes my message sound different that it is. I think too little on what I say…
It’s not the feminine sound of the voice that makes it sound not charr-like, it’s how high-pitched it is. Most female charr I’ve encountered have a lot lower voices than the player character, which makes it sound weirder. Then again, I might have not seen the possibly numerous higher pitched charr voices in the game.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. The voiceactor is great and all, the lower voices just feel like they do more justice to charr in my opinion.
I’d agree it’s not one of the better female charr voices. Glad I didn’t pick one of the rougher looking faces or there’d be a total disconnect.
I made an old lady charr as my elementalist. Her young lady voice combined with her constant annoyed look makes for a hilarous charr
I found my female charr’s voice so awkward and annoying I deleted her and remade her into a male charr >< I feel bad
It never bothered me. Fits my charr perfectly. But I guess my charr does look quite small and young compared to many other charr.

Well of course the voice needs to sound female. That’s not what the OP meant. Sounding “female” and sounding “feminine” aren’t the same thing. “Feminine” implies that the voice sounds girly, happy, graceful or delicate. And Charr as a race don’t bring to mind happy, delicate things at all. A voice that sounds “female” doesn’t have to sound “feminine”—what the OP is asking for is a voice that sounds female, but more harsh, since Charr are a harsh race.
That said, in my personal opinion the female charr voice isn’t that bad. I have two female charr—one of them is an evil-minded villian intent on bending others to her will. The other is a spiritual and thoughtful leader who loves to learn. The female charr voice fits my “spiritual and thoughtful leader” character, but not my “villian” character—and I don’t think it fits the average charr female either. Overall though, it’s a strong voice and it’s all right.

The female charr voice is far from being feminine……heck it’s not feminine at all.
That’s a voice for a strong independent / courageous leader woman and it does fit the female charr’s pretty well.
I guess people want a little grrrr in the female charr’s voice like if I use the skill For Great Justice. It will go like For Grrrreat Justice!

This is pretty much what I meant. The voice actor isn’t bad, she does her part well. But her voice is a bit too high-pitched and well… as you said, girly, for a charr. I really prefer the other charr female voices, like Shredskin in the Blood Legion storyline. Her voice is low and harsh, perfect for a charr in my opinion.
I do like the voice actor of the charr female, I do, but her voice just doesn’t seem to fit the charr as well as the lower voices in the storylines do. This is all of course just opinion based.
I disagree with Elexus Shredskin’s voice being right for female charr. It doesn’t sound like a female soldier, it sounds like a woman trying too hard to sound like a man.

i’d like you to think of the society charrs live in and reread what you said.

I don’t know…I know its an opinion, but the way you’re viewing the female charr’s voice as if they were female asurans and to me female asurans have the girly too high pitched voice than a female charr. The female charr voice is like medium pitched with a tad high pitched when they want to /laugh or use shout attacks.
Opinions are opinions…
I admit I’m a big fan of the Asura, loving their culture and aesthetic more than anything else in the game, but it’s not part of my opinion here.
I just feel like the voices like Elexus Shredskin (thanks Drarnor for reminding me of her first name ;P) fit the Charr character’s look more. It might also be in how I made my character, a clear, fairly girly voice just doesn’t feel like it fits a Blood Legion warrior.
I disagree with Elexus Shredskin’s voice being right for female charr. It doesn’t sound like a female soldier, it sounds like a woman trying too hard to sound like a man.

Umm, what I said still makes perfect sense. Elexus Shredskin sounds like a woman trying too hard to be a man. In all legions but Flame (Elexus is Blood), there is no reason for this as males and females are equal. The female Charr PC voice just sounds like a woman who is serious about her duties.
Elexus actually has the worst female charr voice in the game.

Actually, that’s the actress’s real voice. When they interviewed some of the voice actors live, I knew she was Elexus as soon as she spoke. It’s not a fake attempt at being masculine, the lady honestly has a very deep voice.
Also, while men and women are equal in the three united Legions, Elexus herself has good reason to be bitter and distrustful towards men. Her apparently all-male warband betrayed her for Flame Legion, and expected her to submit her equality and go along with them. This suggests there may have been some rare sexism in her warband even before they defected to Flame. If this is the case, it’s understandable why she tries hard to be assertive.

I did not know that about the actress, (though I shouldn’t have been surprised, take a look at Steve Bluum/Rytlock) but I still don’t think Elexus should be held as “the ideal voice” for female charr.
And she isn’t necessarily trying to be “assertive” but “masculine” (which is a very different thing). You are right in that, for her, at least, it makes some sense to try to sound more masculine due to her former warband likely not being the most equality-minded.
Hmm. I don’t feel the female Charr player voice is “too girly” at all. Are there specific lines that people think are too feminine, or is it just the general tone, or what? Because I’m really not seeing it at all. “Too girly” is the last thing I’d use to descrribe the female player voice.
Is it just the clarity of the voice as opposed to the male voice which is gravelly / raspy? Or “growly” as someone said a few posts up?
To me, the pitch is quite high -which usually coincides with size, given norn females are pretty deep, I feel charr females should be also.
The difference between quite pleased on the male charr, I think the female one doesn’t carry the same gruffness associated with the race.

I felt that way too about female Charr voice doesn’t sound girly at all. I guess if they had a little “growly” in their tone maybe this topic wouldn’t be brought up.
Agreed. Female charr sounds like a human.
And a righteous-sounding human, at that.
Cats, even large cats like cougars, don’t necessarily sound low-pitched and growly. Some are outright embarrassing for animals of that size. Examples:

Even housecats have a huge range, if you think about it. While this game has many, many inconsistencies in terms of voice acting, I think this one is pretty easily justified.
I bet you guys wouldn’t be complaining about the voice if it was Jennifer Hale~

“Clarwr Island.”
Bear in mind that your Charr is a young one, nearly fresh from the farhar, she leads a warband but is only just now getting some experience of full-on war. She’s learning and growing, getting to know the world around her and the threats that menace it. She’s on a hero’s journey alongside…a shrubbery (oops, did I type that out loud?)…but for all that she’s still a young Charr who is growing up fast. Even Rytlock Brimstone asks her, “When did you get so wise, cub?”
I’m quite fond of my warrior. She wiggles her nose just like an inquisitive kitten…then swings both axes. Her young-sounding voice tends to be the last thing those pesky undead hear.

Have you done threaten emote as a female charr? Sounds like a weak kitten.
I think I would’ve been okay with her voice if she sounded more growly.

I threw up in my mouth and then died a little on the inside. Thank you very much XD
I actually agree with the OP. The voice acting for female Charr is actually probably my favorite in the game, but it doesn’t seem all that fitting for the race.
I definitely like it more than the female Sylvari voice (bleh). And the female Human voice is just… boring. Same with female Norn. But anyway, who am I to complain – my main is a Human female.

I think the human female voice is ok (but yeah, kind of bland), but I hate the human female attitude. Every time she accomplishes something, she makes arrogant comments about how awesome she is. That and her confident-flirty idle animation. Haha it’s very at odds with how I envisioned my character.

I agree about the attitude. Although, it doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the Human Male arrogance/over-confidence. Probably because I’m a male IRL, and I am NOTHING like that. If anything, I’m practically the opposite of that.

Most of the female Charr could stand to have a growly effects pass. The voices are just too smooth, IMO.

Wait, doesn’t she voice that one female Charr NPC in this game? I know the name, but I can’t think of it…

Somehow player voice fits my charr perfectly, and I like that voice really much. But I understand that it doesn’t suit rough looking ones at all.

Detha Tremblebones. “Your plan is just stupid and won’t work!”, “Here it comes, ready cannons!”. (You read that in her voice too.)
A bit later in that video the actual charr player VA gives a few comments.
Personally I think it’s one of the best player voices in the game. While I wasn’t sure of it first, changing it now would be a disaster, I’m too accustomed to it.
