Charr Legionaire
Dragonbrand
The little cubs running through the Ascalonian ruins, trying to win the dare…
“Do you want to see my scab…”
“Grosssss”
Male and female charr: raised from birth to be living weapons. If anything, the females would seem to be fiercer, given their history with the flame legion.
But when the little cubette sees a scab…grossssssss.
Really?
We are still talking about juvenile charr: a kit, who has not graduated yet from fahrar, is still by nature immature and who was most likely born in Black Citadel and has not felt horrors of neither flame legion nor their Shaman Caste who were defeated on year 1116 AE (current year 1325)? so i see natural she frowns upon such little thing as scab.
Those particular cubs are a bit odd. The female screams “I’M TOO PRETTY TO DIE!” a bunch of times. That makes no sense because there are no gender roles in society. Both genders decorate their horns and manes, but females certainly don’t care about being “pretty”. In fact, the whole charr society is built with function and conquest in mind, not appearance. A female cub would be more likely to scream “I’M TOO STRONG TO DIE!”
Cubs are natural killers. For a child who has grown up killing and torturing little animals for fun, it’s certainly weird that child would be put off by a scab. Also, female cubs are probably socialized to be extremely dominant and to throw their weight around. Female oppression is still a sore spot among the adult female populace, so mothers probably teach their female cubs not to take any bullsh**
Here’s a cool theory: Maybe that cub is a flame legion female. Maybe her mom escaped flame legion with her, and put her into fahrar when they got away. If flame legion socialized her to be submissive and easily-frightened—she may still be overcoming that.

Sorry, but even cubs play even in nature. You ever watch national Geographic? I’m pretty sure the devs intended Charr cubs to be more similar to human children with wild active imaginations and play believe and stuff.
They are kids, and kids are wild, imaginative and unpredictable. From what I’ve seen, no different from the other races kids mentality wise – at all. And they are the first generation not to be brainwashed into hating humans as well – a much more liberal education etc.
So yeah, I see no problem with the lines they say, its quite entertaining and well done.
There’s been serial killers whose childhood were completely adorable and naive.
I fail to see the interaction between repulsion and “thick skin”, more so on kids. Most of the transformation and military training occurs during puberty anyway, so I’m willing to bet they’re similar to human children until their teens as far as attitude is concerned.
That makes no sense because there are no gender roles in society.
Only if you assume it was the result of a gender role.
It’s the same as kids playing “army”.
“Bang bang I got you, you’re dead. 50 bullets in the head”
“No you didn’t, you missed me”.
That kind of pretend game is what I imagine they’re at the stage of, and saying they’re too pretty to die could be just self approval of her own image. Frowning on a scab is natural as a kid as children seem to be unpredictably repulsed or unpredictably curious on objects of interest that we as a modern society would otherwise see as unclean or silly to mess around with.
Some kid’s icky, flaky, crusty scab isn’t the same thing as a warrior’s glorious battle wound. I don’t see anything wrong with a young charr cub having this reaction, warrior culture or no. Children are silly – the same cub who was squicked by the other cub’s scab would probably ooh and aah over a soldier’s bloody gash, the same way a human child might gleefully roll around in the mud in their backyard, then later get upset when they spill a little ice cream on their clean clothes.
(Well, childhood experiences may vary, but that describes my young self pretty accurately.)
The way I see it, the “wanna see my scab?” comment isn’t that different from saying “wanna see my wart?” Gross. No thank you sir.
They’re kids / cubs ..what the heck do you want them to say? I’m going to bite off a ghost leg roar???
People these days argh……..really?

Did you grow up in Yugoslavia or something? O__o

I believe they were referring to the mud/ice cream comparison
I definitely agree with the OP though. The scab thing makes sense to me. I’m less fond of the “I’m too pretty to die!” line though – after all, kids pick stuff like that up from somewhere, so unless they’ve been spending a lot of time in Lion’s Arch (which isn’t impossible, there’s definitely cubs there) it’s unlikely she would have picked it up from other Charr. I wouldn’t say it’s totally ooc though.

Obviously, she learned it from Maverick, who is obviously her hero.
Cub’s got good taste.
Granted, Maverick’s not Dinky, but spice of life and all that.

Personally, I think female Charr do secretly like pretty things, I imagine a Male charr showing his affection for his chosen mate with the gift of a highly engraved/jeweled weapon he saw her longing for at the weaponsmith’s. She likes pretty, as long as it’s pretty and DEADLY

This kinda makes me wonder… are charr even opposed to ‘pretty’ things, or does pretty just more or less coincide with ‘functional’ to them? I never really paid any attention to it, but now I wonder, if you go around and poke all the NPCs working on some kind of tank/cannon/thing in various zones, do they imply they like the aesthetics of it?
One of the lines the Charr soldier toys marching around the black Citadel during wintersday was “Three E’s of battle: Endurance, Efficiency, Elegance.” Seems to suggest the Charr do care about appearance, as presumably a Charr would have provided the voice for the toys. It’s just not the number one thing they’re concerned about. Unlike say, the Norn!
My main’s a Human (don’t eat me), but coming from GW1, I was fully expecting to not like the Charr at all due to what their ancestors did to Ascalon, as well as how “evil” and monstrous they came across then. Even Pyre Fierceshot gave me an “I’m not going to shoot you in the face… for now” vibe, though I vaguely remember him actually saying something along those lines at some point. After I started playing GW2, I kept a wide berth between my character and any Charr I came across, and was a bit offset by the sight of Charr being in Divinity’s Reach. I held this discomfort until at some point a Charr cub ran up to my character (I don’t remember where) and said something cute/innocent/childlike.
AWWWWWWWWW!!! Heart melted! Warm and fuzzies everywhere! All is forgiven! :P

Was it the “IT’S CANDY DAY!” cub from Halloween?
Was it the “IT’S CANDY DAY!” cub from Halloween?
I probably would’ve died if I came across that one. (Looks it up on YouTube.) Oh. My. God.
The newer generations of charr have a much different way of thinking than their ancestors did. There’s several older charr in the game that verify this. It’s not out of the question for those cubs to act like you’d expect any child to act. Oh and to answer the question, do charr value “pretty”, yes, they do. Not every charr are born warriors, see the little charr in the strawberry garden in diessa, or the farmer charr out there too. Not to mention the rancher charr, who take pride in their cows, not just because the charr love their meat, but they value the quality of the cows themselves. I know the BC isn’t finished (it’s still under construction, for those who do not know) but even now you can see the artistic beauty they put into it. I only hope when the game expands to the other legion’s homelands we get to see other such superstructures with charr artistic flavour added.
The Charr legion weapon skins all have gold inlay, there’s no REASON for them to have it, the Charr just prefer a weapon that’s effective AND flashy to one that does the butchery just as well but looks plain. I imagine a male charr buying his mate a shiny new richly decorated blade to try and make up if they’d had a row. Humans say it with flowers and chocolates, Charr say it with elegantly decorated weapons, and bacon!

BRILLIANT /15char
Is that actual gold? I remember matching it with my armour once and the colour was something like copper or brass. Though, I’m not sure if those colours are considered ‘real’ but still, it could be another (lighter, less expensive) metal.
