4/10 on your first name
8/10 on your last name
I simply went with “Barrish” for my Engineer, he is a big bad brute with a pistol and shield.
My warrior Norn name is Melcroma Lupe
Her colors are black and red. I wanted to give her a dark theme
@Janira Ishkardotir 7/10
sorry forgot to rate ya xD it’s a cool name
Someone rate mines please xD? I was skipped hehe
(edited by Brutalistik.6473)
That said, I wish I could change her last name now to “Grimmsdottir”, after seeing the number of Norn around with similar last names. I always liked the “dottir” portion of Nordic names.)
Grimmsdottir reminds me of Splinter Cell.
I’m Anya Wulfsdottir.
9/10
Svellbjorn Stígrson
I like it. Sounds very norse-like.
My newly created engineer is Gunnar Muskingevär. From what the internet tells me, Muskingevär is Norwegian for “machine gun” and since my guy is an engineer and uses guns, I thought it fit. Gunnar, it said, means “warrior” and the name fit in with the whole “gun” theme so I thought I’d use it.
Awesome name, both gun-wise and nornlike 9/10
My Norn Necromancer’s named Tartus Souldrift. I wasn’t going with Norn naming conventions in mind really just stuff that sounds grim or deathy. Tartus is a shortened form on Tartarus( The deepest darkest hole in the Greek mythological underworld) and Souldrift pretty much speaks for itself. I guess you could say he’s some kind of Havroun……………no?
Tartus Souldrift…. Sounds like a Son of Svanir to me!
Nice name, it actually fits really well. 10/10.
My Norn warrior is called Hurak Frostheart.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zkT2uZAGA – GW2 – A world of wonder
Hurak Frostheart… Well it sounds very fitting to me. I’ll give it a 9/10 because I personally prefer Old Norse names.
Mine’s called Úlfr Skjótsson, which with some artistic liberty translates into "Son of the swift Wolf.
Ragna Spellsinger
Norn Mesmer
Last name fits Mesmers well or Elementalists for that matter. Norn last names go either by title / achievements or heritage name passed down. This fits both of them well. And first name reminds me of Ragnarok from Norse Mythos. I like it. 8/10
My norn is called Buvalu Berosus, the name is actually Babylonian and it means The Giant Saviour.
Buvalu Berosus – 9/10 for humor since I find ur name very funny for some odd reason… And ur sir name just makes u so manly, I’d picture ur guy to be short but angry looking, idk why XD
Mine is Bear IV the Great
4/10. It’s cute what you did – the Great Bear and the royal names pun – but you should have picked only one of them. This way it sounds as if your first name choice was already taken so you had to improvise.
Mine is Siri Thunderbird, female guardian.

Mine is Siri Thunderbird, female guardian.
Heh your name reminded me of the Iphone & Mozilla Thunderbird – 5/10.
Siri Thunderbird sounds super fast :p too fast for a guardian though ahah
Mine is: Evelyn WhiteHawk
Nice, I like the first name but not so much the WhiteHawk, 7/10
Mine – Amalia Peláez
6.5/10!
Annelise Wildwood female ranger
My Norn’s name is Setun, a warrior by trade, but a shaman to Bear by heritage. Hobbies include introducing enemies to the face of his hammer, and shouting “Shake it, for great justice!” at the ladies.
Sounds like a great name for a norn living in cantha.
My female norn ranger.
Merida Bravestarr
With the power of raven, wolf, leopard, and bear.
Some one posted earlier that the norn body tattoos had a native american fell to them. I mixed that with my love of 80s cartoons, and a pixar movie called Brave.
Merida Bravestarr, I like the sound of that, with the mix of our real life cultures that go into norn culture I find it very fitting. Plus that 80s cartoon is awesome!
Well here are my norn names. All males.
Guardian: Skallagrim Kveldulv. Skallagrim can mean "the helmeted one, the bald, the one with a grim visage, grim skull a.k.a cranium/deathskull. Kveldulv means Nightwolf but can also refer to werewolf. (Wolf spirit)
Warrior: Gard Blodstrup. Gard modernisation of Garthr, can mean yard or in earlier use guard/protector. Blodstrup means Bloodthroat. (Bear spirit)
Ranger: Hilding Hrafnson. Hild or Hildi means battle or chieftain, -ing = descendant. So Hilding would be Kin of Battle or Kin of a Chieftain. Hrafnson means son of the raven. (Raven spirit)
And yep there are many norn body tattoos that are native american looking, I do prefer the norse looking ones, the knots. The hand patters, facial war tattoos and such remind me of native american or gaelic warpaints.
(edited by SneakyErvin.3056)
Hmm Skallagrim Kveldulv, Gard Blodstrup, and Hilding Hrafnson…sound too norny :P. J/k /jk they’re good. Hilding sounds kind of femine though for some reason :/ (like I’d call him Hildi for short)
My female Norn ranger
Tarzana Kneeshooter (breath-takingly awesome I know)
(edited by Stazee.6749)
I like it, but it sounds like you live in a jungle and swing from vines.
My norn warrior is Sigrid Icedale.
Sigrid Icedale… That’s a very nice norn name.
My 80 female guardian is called Freya Steelhart
I’ll suck volcanus for stability.
8/10 for Freya Steelhart – good solid Norn name, but it feels like I can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Freya of some kind or other…
My first character in this game is a Warrior named Thrud Thrymsdottir. Thrud is a Valkyrie and daugher of Thor in Norse mythology, and the Thrym part is inpsired by the Icelandic word “thruma,” meaning “thunder” (couldn’t find an Old Norse word for it).
9/10. It’s a very norn-sounding name. I like the inspiration behind it.
Galrik Vulfson – Male Guardian
9/10 Galrik sound like a very strong, authoritative firstname. And the last name sounds like it has enjoyed a long and strong bloodline.
My female Guardian is Kristrünn. She’s supposed to be a bit of tomboy…necessary when you’re a guardian…. Her last name is unknown to me.
My friends guardian name is Norian Light =D
Kristrunn is epic! 10/10
I’ll suck volcanus for stability.
My friends guardian name is Norian Light =D
7/10 not bad.
Lidende Krigsman, Female Warrior.
If you can translate that name, you get a cookie, and you are also probably from Scandinavia.

Not gonna lie, googled it. I dig the name, last name isn’t my cup of tea though. Still 8/10.
Mine’s currently Zeqmont Stormcry. Not sure if I should change the first name to Zygmund. Sounds enough like my original name, but more believable. Not sure if the “q” fits in with Norn name phonetics.
Nice. I agree that Zygmund sounds more Nordic to me as well. We have similar surnames though…
Amiri Stormhowl, Female Warrior
Technically half-nord (via back story) and raised in the Nord culture. Hence the non nordic-like first name. Never knew her real birth parents. Her first name is the only thing she has from them. Fully embraced/accepted the Nord ways, complete with dreds and tattoos.
The last name sounds rather nornish! Amiri, on the other hand, is rather exotic-sounding for a Norn, which for all purposes and intents to fit her backstory of course. 9/10!
My Norn Guardian goes by Kell Oakheart. Took the name Kell, from the kitten Protagonist in the Clockwork Vampire Chronicles. (Look it up, pretty swell read. No twilight vampire bullkitten either.) Then I made him like look like techno viking :p. Pretty happy so far! Oakheart was something I needed to reference, or rather remind himself of his guardian roots I suppose.

Lohengrin, guardian =]
I can’t help but see the “grin” part and think of something more cuddly… So 6/10.
Just made a max height, max fat Mesmer named Gabe Nornwell.
(edited by GoZero.9708)
@ Kell Oakheart: For some reason the first name doesn’t sound like a Norn-type name to my ears. It’s not the name itself, just the sounds/letters. I want to picture him as a very svelte-looking man with long hair. 7/10?
@ Gabe Nornwell: I feel like this name might be a reference to something but can’t think of what it could be. The name Gabe also sounds like more of a human name to me. I like the Nornwell part, though. 7/10
I named my male norn “Olaf Motherpuncher”. And he pretty much looks like the kind of guy who’d punch someone’s mother, too.
D ; That’s such a terrible name (I’m a mama’s boy, so I have a bias), but it’s a funny name though. Granted, in Norn culture, I really doubt he’d be respected with a name like that. XD 7/10
Akna Svellfiskr- Female Thief
Akna Svellfiskr, I like it 9/10. Sounds like an authentic, strong Norn name.
Sigmar Skyhammer – Male Warrior

Sigmar Skyhammer – Male Warrior
7/10
8/10 if you wield a hammer or infinite light
Whenever someone sees your characters name he will think of Sigmar and compare your avatar with him. You can only loose this fight.
Tarotyr – Male Warrior
Tarotyr – I like this reminds me of GoT
Drobo Jelt – Male warrior
I’m a fan of viking history. My family comes all the way from Denmark. Anakka Svaarblade sounds spot on. Very old icelandic. I give it a 10/10.
I’m not trying to be a.. kitten? Buuuut, as a native speaker of Icelandic, a language which hasn’t changed much since antiquity I have to point out that Anakka Svaarblade is nothing even closely resembling an Icelandic name, past or present :P
I minored in linguistics. I am not saying you are wrong, but.. hear me out. First of all, the Icelandic language base is a huge area to cover. You say it hasn’t changed much, and from someone from Iceland, that is mostly true.
However, there are some fundamental things to consider. Without the benefit of an Icelandic .keyboard some of it gets lost in translation.
‘Anakka’ is a name that is found in the name databases online. There are multiple variations of it. The most common I found was the first name ‘Annika’. My norn necro has a variation of that name ‘Anneke’. While its spelled differently, it has enough in common phonetically to pass muster. This is the part I mostly disagree with you on.
The next part I can partially disagree with you on is the fragment ‘Svaar’. It is basically a syllable, but one that clearly sounds like it belongs. ‘sverð’ is the Icelandic word for Sword. Its not a terrible leap to consider. Some graphemes can be lost in translation, but it shares enough on the basic level to me that I’d let it through even on a stretch.
The component ‘blade’ is ‘blað’ in Icelandic. Its basically the same word. There is enough evidence to suggest that they were in the spirit of the language, even IF they couldn’t put it in its most proper terms. I don’t think its an important enough semantic distinction to come down on. Besides, using that component in a surname in a fantasy setting is pretty common.
I doubt the name has very little in common with the modern naming conventions of Iceland, but it shares enough components (especially in a fantasy setting, i mean come on!) that I let it through.
If one were to put it more finely the approximation would be: Annika Sverðblað.
Visually, its different in the print. Phonetically, its very similar. As a Norn name I like it. :P My vote of 10/10 stands.

Gerd Odinsdottir – Elementalist using mainly Air
I like the last name Odinsdottir, not sure about the first name.
Hymiron, male warrior.
Hidesplitter. Norn Guardian though he’s really only a half-norn.
His mother was a corrupted Kodan named Runs Backward and his father, a Son of Svanir, was merely called Bob. They met at a corrupted ale moot and fell instantly in love. Though he was a son of Svanir, Bob was a loyal father and stood by his decaying, man-bear partner.
Sadly, their love would not last as Runs Backward was eaten by Jormag during one of his all night benders. But Hidesplitter survived. Nestled and nurtered in the belly of Jormag he grew earning his distinctive scars and acerbic wit in the bowels of the great beast.
And after some twenty years (Svanir histories are notoriously poor on dates but this period is commonly referred to as “The great gastrointestinal anguish of the powerful and ornery Jormag”), the dragon finally passed Hidesplitter in so foul and painful a manner the Northern Shiverspeaks have seen neither hide nor scale of the great dragon since.
Lore has it the winged monster fled to the far North to nurse—but hopefully not lick—his wounds leaving behind his Lieutenant, The Claw, in charge. And The Claw, having witnessed the entire proceeding, dubbed the object of Jormag’s discomfort: Hidesplitter. He then banned Hidesplitter to the hinterlands where legend has it a pair of kindly old Norn took him in as their own… though only after bathing him no less than fourteen times.
Edit: I forgot to rate the name above me. 2pts for creativity, 5pts for nornishness and 1pts for length: 8/10.
