Guild Wars 2

Hi, all -

First time playing Guild Wars, just bought it yesterday. My question is, how easy will it be to switch names once the GW1 reserved names are released? I understand there’s no time-frame for that currently, but it’s a pretty big deal for me personally when creating an MMO character.

If I could at least be guaranteed that one day these names would be released, AND the ability to change to one of those names would be relatively easy (whatever it costs in game from a monetary standpoint or otherwise) then I’d create a character ASAP and worry about the name prior to hitting 80.

Until then, I feel like I’m in a holding pattern, and haven’t enjoyed the game yet. I’m getting really good at creating a character and then deleting it though :/

I guess my point is – if this is going to be similar to GW1 (which I didn’t play, but read about the $14.99 charge), then I’m going to just wait it out instead of giving any more of my money.

I know the one’s that say “Name is Taken” I can’t do much about. But will there be a time in AreaNet’s future where the “Reserved Guild Wars 1” names will be massively released? I know there’s no timetable currently, just didn’t know if the possibility of it never happening was on the table.

If one day the GW1 reserved names are changed, then I’ll make my character now, come up with any old name and go from there. If the prospect of GW1 names never being released is real, then I’ll have to think a lot harder for a name to use. I’ve learned from many years of MMOs, do it right the first time, or don’t do it at all…

Thank you – just the answer I was hoping for! In that case, I’ll just use one of the backup/alt names, and that way my account at least holds on to one name that I could use in the future.

Maybe I could use this chain of posts for a discount on my inevitable name change (just kidding).

Hey Gaile, I’m just wondering if there will be any option for Guild Name changes since you said there might be one for character name changes? I would not mind even if I had to buy it from the Gem Store. You can even have it where you’re only allowed one time to change your guild name for a fee.

But I would really like a guild name change feature if you guys are thinking about doing one. I’m not asking for a time- table or anything, just if you guys are considering it. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Gaile, I’m not very worried about character name change because if you really really want to change your character’s name you can always create a new one. However, being able to change our Display Name(name.###) imo is more important as there really is no way to get/change the display name we want once our accounts have been created.

I really hope that the character naming thing that you can purchase for gems comes soon.

I originally planned on having an engineer main, but I found out that I like my elementalist better. I was hoping to swap their names so My main doesn’t have the lame “X Isms X” X’s in it. It would be really great if there was a way that we could swap these names instead of having to buy THREE name changes!

I am also very curious about being able to switch my display name (name.xxxx). I thought that I had to use the name to link it to my old gw1 account but I would much rather have something that identifies with my current characters rather than a name that nobody recognizes. I know that this is a problem for a lot of my guildies as well.
