Hello,

The Guild Wars 2 Serial Code used to create your Guild Wars 2 game account was initially purchased from https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/. NCsoft has found that the purchase of the serial code was a fraudulent purchase. This resulted in the provided serial code and game account where that serial code is registered to be permanently closed.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to assist you further with this issue.

If you purchased this account creation serial code from any other website, we recommend contacting the unauthorized reseller from whom you purchased the serial code for a full refund. To ensure this does not happen in the future, if you wish to play the game, please purchase a retail copy/serial code from an authorized retailer. Authorized sellers of Guild Wars 2 serial codes can be found here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers#UnitedStates-physical.

Regards,

So in short: I bought my gw2 cd-key on a legit site before the whole key problem when many of the keys werent working correctly. There were no information on “authorized retailers” on gw2 page anywhere on that day so i had no idea about any problems . I had no problems with registration or playing the game till now. And now this happens …. i lost everything my lvl 80 chars hell i even was going for legendary weapons …hah not anymore. its just so much time iv played this game but in anet eyes it means nothing. I cant even get my money back the site i bought it from is telling me it was too long since the purchase (before beta 3). Why am i posting this? i dont know im not mad, more like sad and resigned. This is how my GW2 story ends and … heh and i was the one always defending anet the most… betrayed? yes maybe i feel that. Sorry for the hectic writing. If youre reading this look out you may be next. Peace im off.

How did you buy it? I’d print that email, whatever invoice you got from the site, and forward it to your card’s issuing institution (or paypal if you went that route) if the site will not refund your money.

Maybe Arenanet would be very nice and allow you to buy a serial, and then use it to re-activate your old account if you explain you are the victim of a possible fraud?

A lot of people purchased keys from unauthorized websites because it was cheaper than the GW2 official site. I assume the website then did a chargeback close to the end of the grace period for creditcard disputes. When that happened, everyone using those keys got terminated. While working in the banking industry with risk management and security, I’ve similar situations with website businesses. It’s extremely difficult when the business is in a foreign country.

Word of advice: Just because a website is online and has a nice layout with pretty pictures, doesn’t mean it’s legit.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

Yes, that is exactly what happened in many cases. And it’s a shame, because we lose, the player loses, and the seller sometimes declines to make good on the purchase.

I would strongly recommend that you never purchase from an unauthorized seller. Nor would I purchase from a reseller on eBay or Amazon or any other site that promises a “sealed box.” I get my games from the source, or I get them from a trusted supplier like Amazon (the main site, not the individual sellers), EBGames/Gamestop, etc.

What do you do if you’re a victim of a dishonest reseller? Get in touch with the seller and get a refund. Then purchase a legitimate copy of the game from buy.guildwars2.com or an authorized retailer.

There is a good chance this could happen – it’s happened in the past.

generally if the account was not terminated for the -user- fault (and in this case the fraud is from the seller site, not the user), arenanet has no problem at you adding another serial to your account.
obviously they wont let you play without buying another account, after all -they- have not been paid for the account you are using, the fraudolent site has basically stole the money you gave them.
