First of all, I’m sorry if this is the wrong section of the forum to ask this.

Will we who couldn’t access the 3-day headstart get any kind of compensation for that?
I mean I/we did give around 10$ more or so, and couldn’t access the game for 3 days.

I do have all the necessery proof that i was suppose to access the game earlier, so giving any kind of proof for that is not an issue. Tnx for reading, and again… I am sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum for this.

Could you elaborate how you paid more to access the headstart?
As far as I am aware you gained access to the 3 day headstart if you pre-purchased the game. The pre-purchase game price was/is apporximately the same as the price for the game now. (Though that can vary a little bit between different retailers.)

There were several different levels of Pre-purchase, and two of them came with 72 hours of pre-play time for slightly more money than the regular purchase price that came with 24 hours of pre-play time.

Overall Anet launch has been robust, individual circumstances aside. I had no issues with the head start.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

I don’t know how they would compensate anyone. Imho, from a business point of view this would not be a wise thing to do, because people would start asking for compensation for any time they couldn’t play or even anything they think is worthy of a compensation, for example: Losing an item, getting hacked, etc….

In my case I haven’t been able to play, even tho I own 2 pre-purchases (3 day headstart), so how would they come up with a compensation for all the different amounts of time people have “lost”?

All pre-purchase came with 3 days head start. The costs were not more than the normal game. There were 3 versions of the game, but they cost the same as a pre-purchase as it does now. Some people pre-ordered where they didn’t have to pay the full amount and were given 24 hours head start. I don’t know of any of the official retailers charging more for 3 days headstart than if you bought the game now, just the difference between regular, and digital deluxe. So not sure why you where charged more than the typical cost of the game. Who/where did you pre-purchase?

You recieved 72 hour Headstart when you pre-purchased the game.
And you had a 24 hour Headstart if you pre-ordered the game.
The overall price should be the same, no matter if pre-purchased, pre-ordered or bought after release.(Other than differences between retailers)

Could it be that the different levels of pay you’re thinking about are referring to the
Standard, Digital and Collectors Edition?

There was no difference in the cost of Pre-Purchase as opposed to Pre-Order. One was a full commitment to buy, as opposed to a deposit, but it did not involve a higher cost.

there defenitly is a diffrence in cost!!!!!
stores here sell the game for 42 euro check www.mediamarkt.nl and i bought the game for 55 euro so dont say there is no price diffrence when there is one. and a decent one aswell.

but seeming al i could do was play the headstart and not anymore after i most likely rendered myself immune to asking a compensation. but for those who didnt mess up the serials themself they have the right to demand it in my opinion!!!

Not officially there wasn’t.

From retailers it will differ from place to place, since they work off a recommended cost, and, sell it for a price they want to.

From an official sale perspective, the cost on https://buy.guildwars2.com/ has always been the same. I paid £50 a couple a days before launch, and, the prices on the above link still reflect that value (when copies are available).

Well, I pre-purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition which was £64.99, I received all in-game items as part of that tier of pre-purchase but simply didn’t receive the 3 day headstart due to the consistent log-in server problems. In total the log-in servers and game servers provided me with a total of 24 hours I could log into the servers with the other 48 hours not letting me log in at all due to whatever ArenaNet were having problems with, problems such as log-in servers weren’t contactable or ‘Transaction in progress’ error and so forth. These problems weren’t anything to do with me as I had intermittent access the first 6 hours or so the game went live. So I didn’t actually get the 3 day headstart I was pre-purchasing for.

With that in mind, would I not be entitled to some form of compensation?. I couldn’t say what they could compensate me with but I do believe that a customer should get what they paid for and I can say I never received 100% of my pre-purchased time.

I understand I will probably get nothing and so be it if that’s the case, but this kind of act will travel through the gaming community for many years and will be remembered for a long time. I won’t be utilising ArenaNet’s microtransaction (Gem store) system as I think it’s unfair to give more money to a company that doesn’t uphold it’s end of the bargain when customer’s don’t get everything they’re supposed to. I spent £64.99 on that tier to help support ArenaNet that little bit more than the Standard Edition because at the time I felt that they simply deserved it, and they still do, I am just dissappointed that I never got my full 3 day headstart access.

I will however continue to play Guild Wars 2 as it’s a seriously immense game and they’ve done a fantastic job on it the last 5 years. I just wish the initial headstart access was true to word and give me access for 3 days instead of 1 (although I’m not ignorant of the fact that these things do happen on games like these and I am pretty sure they worked their very hardest and continue to do so on remedying the issues in the game).

Good luck resolving the other issues

EDIT – the issues involved were widespread across the EU log-in servers and was acknowledged by ArenaNet as being a problem on several social media sites etc.

I pre-purchased and it’s true that I didn’t get to play the first day – I couldn’t log in when I was home for work, except for two hours before I went to sleep. I was a little disappointed, that’s also true, but I realised it’s just part of life – life here being what happens when you suddenly flood some new servers.

I don’t think I’m entitled to anything special. It was the launch of a new game – I knew it was going to be crazy and likely nigh unplayable – and that it was only going to get worse for the “real” launch.

I don’t think this will be remembered as a terrible, negative, unfair event – just as yet another not-so-smooth launch of a brand-new game. What could I reasonably expect from a situation where servers were going from 0 to being bombarded endlessly by hundreds of thousands of people ? Even games that have been active for the better part of a decade still have problems with launching new content, even when they already know very well how taxed they’ll be.

I’m nowhere near petty enough to withhold funds because of a completely and utterly predictable hiccup in launching a brand-new game. Like you said, they worked FIVE YEARS on this game and you LIKE it. What is two days that everyone knew weren’t going to be the most playable, anyway ?

Aliken it to having a custom piece of artwork created for you – chances are the artist is going to work on initial sketches for you and none of them are going to be exactly what you want. Are you going to fire that artist because they couldn’t do the impossible ? Get it right without testing and feedback ? All firing them is going to do is put a talented artist out of a job and you will never arrive at the product you desire to purchase if you keep cutting people off for unavoidable “mistakes”.

I’m experiencing some unpleasant bugs in game right now, but I’m going to continue giving them the benefit of the doubt as they have done nothing but keep us informed and worked to fix things.
