Is there, or do you think there should be, any form of in-game compensation for people who have been wrongly banned, say for a false-positive botting ban?

I don’t think there is. I don’t think there should be. You are asking ANet to favor a group of players over another.

I think they should. They offer compensation for people who got in jail because of a wrong decision. Every error has a price. 10-20 gold per day looks good.

It is not asking them to favor one group over another without good reason, however.

If you have contracted to receive a game service and have complied with the terms of use, and are wrongly accused of non-compliance and subsequently have your account re-instated, there ought to be some form of recompense for the nuisance caused. It is a small group of players, we hope, that will be wrongfully banned, so it would not have a noticable effect on the game and would make those players less unhappy about the situation.

I have been banned for 2 days for botting and am waiting for a reply to my ticket. I have never used a 3rd party program… I miss pvping a lot. =(

What mouse / keyboard do you use? I use a Razer Naga mouse and a Logitech G510 keyboard. I don’t use any of the macro facilities, I just press one key for one action in game.

I use a logitech cordless desktop ex110 keyboard and a logitech mouse. They are both old and have no macro functions what-so-ever

That’s mildly reassuring then. I wouldn’t want to have to get rid of mine. Do you happen to play in a very repetetive style, like, do you often use the same rotation in specific circumstances?

when im farming i tend to do they same thing when an event pops but nothing precise as a macro would do because im controlling my character. I think they are banning people for farming and mistaking them for botters.

Yea, that’s probably all it is. I spent a lot of time at Plinx lately, over the last week or so.

I was banned about 6 hours and was thinking what could have caused the ban as I’m not using any third party programs at all.

Hardware I’m using is the Razer Naga mouse, and Starcraft II Marauder keyboard. For the naga i mainly just spam the button 1 on the side panel as its easier to hit with the thumb that using my left hand to hit 1 on the keyboard while moving around using wasd.

As for repetitive movement, I am farming so i pretty much just do the same thing over and over, when I’m on the shelter’s camp, i pan the camera left and right every half second to see which side is getting attacked so that I may AoE tag them with the guardian staff, I also do quick turns to monitor if the undead is attacking the top right corner of shelters (where the npcs are).

As for penitent pretty much the same thing, just moving the camera on all directions to see if there’s a group of mobs I can tag.

I’m not sure if it’s those actions that triggered it or programs running from the mouse and keyboard that I am not aware of that triggered the flag for me getting banned.

So I went in and killed the spiders to rejoice in the discovery. I wonder if someone reported me for being a bot at that moment? lol

I got banned this morning wrongfully. Every day this ban lasts i’m missing about 12g from my farming. I would love to have compensation to get that back. Sadly i do not think it’s going to happen.

Not sure, for me I was in the Harathi Hinterlands questing early yesterday.
When I was doing the Heart @ Modniir Gorge, obvious bots crossed my path.
I choose to continue with my questing.

after taking a break (Logged off) I returned to complete the rest of the map.
Once I had 99% complete I noticed that the point of interest @ Modniir Gorge remained.
While trying to make my way thru and failed (Level 39 Mesmer) all was contested.
I did run into another player and decided to help do the event to gain the area back.
at that point, my wife joined me both in party and zone to help me complete the task plus get the point of interest.

@ the last Veteran kill started to attack, my screen goes black, ( WTF remark) wife asked what happened, then noticed that her screen went black.

restarting the application. we got the botting message.

Mind you, if I got flagged by another player that I was part of that bot group (which I was not) other players can make the mistake. that doesn’t explain why my wife has gotten labeled as she has not played at all yesterday until I asked for assistance on completing the map/task.

From what I can recall, after my break and heading back to the Modniir Gorge, I did not see the bot anywhere.

As a player I can try to take the false label and wait for a resolution.
As a husband, I feel @ fault for my wife getting hit. If I didn’t ask her to help, she might be able to be online, applying Dye which she like doing as well as playing her characters.

wrongly banning legitimate users is very wrong.

i believe anet should compensate the users at least for their errors.

compensation or not, really, the only thing I want right now is getting my account back online as I have invested so much time and effort on it (I requested vacation off of work to work on my legendaries which has been progressing greatly).

Add me to the list of wrongful bans. I never post on forums here I am though. Needless to say I was shocked I do realize it is just a game however. I really thought this would never ever happen to me. So I sent in a support ticket and am willing to see what they have to say.

The message I got when trying to log in was “account has been terminated do to botting…”. Funny thing is I levelled both the characters on that account to 80 by crafting hopefully they will do some research and check things like that. Oh the irony. Anyhow it sounds like there are quite a few players that got swept up in some kind of wrongful banning so I hope they resolve these issues. I think during my play time on my wife’s and my accounts we have reported about 1,000 bots also more irony yum.

So do I think they should compensate players for wrongful banning well that is up to them. I think those of us with their accounts suspended or like mine says “terminated” should at least receive an apology that would be a good start.

On topic though, I asked about compensation already but my post got moved/merged and without a reply. I got falsely banned, missed my daily and guild activities, and who knows when they will get to my case to unban me.

It already sucks to be wrongly accused and banned and I believe it would only be fair to get some kind of compensation for the trouble and annoyance. I don’t know, like 100 gems for each day they ban us?

I dunno about you, but with my farming strategy, i can pull in about 12g a day. Im banned for no reason right now and every day im banned im losing 12-15g. I want compensation for that. This is gonna put my legendary farming back by a TON. That’s not fair.

I wasn’t able to participate in WvW because of this ban.

So I feel my server should be given a 50k point bonus to compensate for not having me there.

I play the game casually these days, just to have fun with some friends for a couple of hours a day. I stopped worrying about legendaries a month ago.

So, obviously downtime from this false ban is different from one person to another, and hence compensation would have to be symbolic, as a form of apology in the least, if they would ever offer it in the first place.

This reminds me of when they banned loads of players in gw1 that actually did not use 3rd party or were not using bots, it happened to me i was farming on my 55hp monk was not my fault bots were in the area i was farming well they were in most good farming areas in gw1 lets be honest and u could easily see i was not following a set path or running into walls like them.
I got my account back but they still insisted they were right and i was not telling the truth looks like same happening here in gw2 tut tut anet do u not learn.
And a tip for anet some people report to spite others just because the other person did not like what they just did, so this way is not always reliable.

i got baned yesterday for no reason i can think of… i never bot and honestly, i dont know how to set up bot program or where to get it…

to subject: i think there should be a compensation for players, but please tell me this, how can anet compensate me for possibly missing the cursed shore event?

i just think they do not learn from past mistakes do not get me wrong love there games gw1 and gw2 so not a hater of them at all just think they need to find a better way to finding bots and hackers than they have at the moment as it cannot be working to well if people who are truly not botting or whatever else are getting banned and yet i still see bots runing around

That’s is because the people, or ‘companies’, that uses those bots to do whatever actually make a profit doing so. They will just buy another GW2 account to run their bots when one of their accounts are banned.

We, on the other hand, spent time naming and levelling our characters, thus generally have some sort of emotional attachment to our account. That is why we are here trying to get it back.

Providing in-game bonuses would only encourage inappropriate behavior – if you could get a few hundred gems or some gold for your trouble, some people would follow bots and mimick them in hopes of getting “banned by mistake” or have their friends report them as bots or gold sellers then recant the accusation a few days later and say they were mad at him for something and wanted to get back at him.

I totally Agree with you Ruith, I have the same situation when I was running around at Kessex Hills and basiclly playing like the way it should be ( doing hearts, waypoints etc.) when I suddenly my screen turn to black ( which I thought it was my computer error). I close the guild wars 2 window and re start the game. Next thing I see , my account is terminated due to a botting issue?!! I was so pissed that anet could have done this ( who else) accusing my account that is not true. For almost 7 years I played and a fan of Guild wars 1 I never done such a accusation or anything that will break the rules of the game, now they will just melt my heart out of this game for accusing me that I did not do. I even bought the CE ( $150+ tax =$ 164 and few cents) and this is what I get. I hope this issue will be solve and I feel better if anet ( guild wars2) will do some compensation for wrongfully terminating my account.
I will not feel better if i’m wearing a slipper then someone with a soldier boots stepped on my foot and will only say " oh! sorry" I didn’t mean to stepped on your little toes. I hope Anet get the point…

The bots are crazy in this game. I can’t seem to go anywhere without running into one. It was funny though. Some poor player was getting mauled by like 8 bandits. I stopped by to clear them all out. And he thought I was a bot. I told him if I was I would be using a bear and not the jaguar. :P

Sorry to hear of your situation Vulcar. I know how you feel, my husband and I too have been with GW1 since the release. Funny thing is now, we are actually playing GW1 since we can’t log into GW2 lol
