Issue: The Block/Ignore list is currently mostly useless

Solution: Certain actions should be disallowed if either user has the other on Block

1. Prevent joining groups via LFG if someone in the group has you blocked
2. Prevent merging groups via LFG if someone in either group has a block in place
3. Prevent seeing the character name/location through the Block list
4. Say/party/guild chat shouldn’t be seen by the blocked individual

Pros: Protection from harassment that is currently possible

Cons: Dev work to put protections in place likely better utilized in other areas of the game, if people weren’t being rude

Usage Example: Currently even if I have someone on my block list, that person can still join my group via LFG group postings.

What good is the block function if it doesn’t block anything?

I’ll agree about the LFG restrictions, if they build in a LFG too suspension tool to be used on reported and verified cases of people using the LFG tool for non-allowed activities – such as an ad space for off-BLTP trades.

I agree that blocked people shouldn’t be able see if the blocker is online via guild, block, or friends lists. But not the blocking of chat.

This would not be an Account Issue, but rather a suggestion better suited to another sub-forum.

And I know there won’t be an answer to this or the other thread by a red post, I understand the pattern. I accept the fact that harassing me is condoned, but my posting might help someone in the future so I had to try.

It is not an account issue, it is an issue with the game design therefore it should be posted as a suggestion thread in the game discussion forums. As for harassment, it is not accepted, so you need to report and Anet will review and decide if you were being harassed or not. From what I undestand you’re trying to use the LFG tool as a means to advertise a sale of a legendary, ie. using LFG tool as a grey market and from what I understand that is not something that is allowed in game so if people take down your group in my eyes it is not harassment. If they call you names or are hostile towards you in any way than I’m sure Anet will deal with it. However I don’t see anything wrong with people taking down your group.

From what I understand when this issue has been brought up before, this is just not possible because the contacts system doesn’t communicate with the LFG system, and it would break other systems were they to link them.

I grant you this is a very condensed synopsis of the issue.

Harassment and being able to effectively deal with it is an account issue, not a game suggestion.

I hope that you never have someone just decide to dislike you so much that they call you names, change your LFG messages to offensive slurs and otherwise demean you as a person. I’ve had all of those things done, and the argument I’m hearing back from users on the forum is that it’s okay because they don’t like what I’m doing to cause the harassment.

Interesting, it’s very similar reasoning that has been used in the past for allowing racism, disregard minority groups, remove or disallow rights for LGBT groups, etc.

On these forums, according to the people responding to me, bullying is alright, so long as the group of people being harassed and bullied are doing something you don’t like.

Unfortunately, this is not the correct sub-forum for suggestions. That is why it is stated this is not an Account Issue. The Devs that would program such a suggestion would be found perusing a different sub-forum, such as GD.

This is the EXACT opposite of truth. Have you done some screen captures of the harassment (or video) and opened a ticket with Support? If you are truly being harassed, Support will most definitely do something about it.

Your immediate implication that all of this is Anet’s fault is rather questionable to begin with but I don’t see anyone here saying it’s ok for you to be harassed and Anet certainly does NOT condone it.

The more simple solution that trying to alter a system that works fairly well (granted, it’s not perfect) is to PUNISH the person harassing you. Anet WILL do that if you give them the information and a chance.

The major difference being that a person who is a minority or gay cannot alter that fact, while no one is forcing you to advertise in LFG. You could, theoretically, simply … not do it.

Misusing a game system does not make you a persecuted minority, I’m afraid. You’ll need to address harassment claims through support channels. Your suggestion for the improvement of the Block function has, as I said, already been addressed when LFG was first introduced.

This topic is not about harassment, it is about the suggestion to improve the in game block function so it should be in the game discussion forum. No idea why you keep saying that everyone here says harassing you is ok, have you not been reading our posts? All you need to do is report it and if you were actually harassed Anet will deal with it. Take your own advice, report and move on. If they are calling you names and verbally abusing you I’m sure something will be done about it.
