I just created this account and was going to join my friends on Borlis Pass. I was clicking on different servers to figure out how the server list worked, and now I’m locked into a server “Sorrow’s Furnace” for 6 days. I haven’t even created a character yet. I am afraid to create a character now as it will cost me to transfer once I do. I’ve submitted a ticket several hours ago to get my transfer opened up immediately as this is a brand new account with no characters on it.

I’m wondering if I do create a character and start playing can I get a free transfer? I’d like to know if I can start playing without being punished. It’s really frustrating that I got the game, and now I’m waiting 6 days so I don’t have to pay for a transfer. This is a really silly concept that it will lock you in to a server before even creating an character. With no characters you would assume there is no actual ‘transfer’ so this is honestly so silly.

I don’t know why you should be locked in for six days before you even have a character made. I do know that normally you should be able to switch servers if you have no characters. Try making one, deleting it, then make another. See if the option to chose a server pops up then.

If you are forced to wait the full 6 days, you can transfer for free then by deleting all your characters at the end of the 6 days and making one more. You should get an option to chose a server then. You can always guest to Borlis pass to play with your friends while waiting.

I’ve already tried making a character and deleting it and I’m still getting this…

This is not an option. Why would I play a character for 6 days a delete all of my progress? Guesting to Borlis isn’t an option, I would like to WvW with my Guild. I paid for a fresh copy of the game, I should have the ability to be on any server I want at the start… this is ridiculous.

This information isn’t useful to me. I’m not considering a server transfer. I have a brand new account, why the hell would I pay 50 bucks for a new game, just to pay more money to do a server transfer?

Bottom line is, you accidentally clicked on and selected the wrong home server. Because there’s an internal 7 day cooldown, you must wait it out. So if you decide to make a new character, the options are to delete all progress so you can transfer for free, or pay Gems to retain your levels. Because it’s a new account, it’s cheaper just to delete your toons. Keep in mind that you can keep whatever non-Account bound items you have in your bank.

I’m not being belligerent… anyone would be p|ssed if they got a brand new game, and they clicked on the wrong thing, and it will cost them 6 days of playing on a character that’s going to cost them more money to swap, or delete all the progress. The fact that it locks someone into a server before they even create a character doesn’t make any sense.

What exactly am I transferring, when I have nothing to transfer??? This is a bug that should be resolved if anything.

Well, if it’s a bug then the only people who can help you is support. They should be able to get to you fairly quick. You could spend that time making a character, checking out the low level areas and finding out where stuff is.

It states matter of factly you’ll be able to transfer once every 7 days. Whether you pay gems or not. As long as he doesn’t create any characters, after 7 days, he’ll be able to change server, free of charge.

That’s not a bug, it’s a statement that Anet has put out repeatedly. Although their rehashed statement does not include that particular line of being able to change server for free if there ARE no characters present on the account what so ever. That usually has to be repeated by the players in these forums.

I’ve already read some of the Copy & Paste statements given to the players from Support. That particular information is left out on some of them, which makes it look like new players would have to be forced to purchase Gems in order to fix. Several players have already displayed their displeasure about that omission.

The 7 day wait is for people who have already transferred one time already and then there is a cooling off period before they can transfer again. How does this relate to someone who has just bought the game, have not yet made a character and therefore has not yet previously transferred?

Two fold.

It keeps people from immediately transferring for WvW season start.

And if the account was immediately compromised, where a hacker is attempting to move a new account to an area, where they can bot. There are certain servers which I would say are LAX with bot patrol, in certain locations.

Anet does have security reasons in place for certain eventualities. We may NOT like them, we may NOT agree with them…but there it is.

You can shout all you want that “I’m a customer, I should come first.” There’s nearly 3 million customers of the game, and each individual is given an equal opportunity to state their case, through a Support Ticket, and hope for the best.

However, since support is backlogged, that could be anywhere between 2-7 working business days, NOT including the weekends. By the time they do read the mail, or are in a position to deal with the problem, chances are seven days may pass.

Then again, they maybe able to deal with the problem fairly quickly, BUT a Support Ticket again must be created.

Support Tab is at the top of the screen, just follow the instructions layed out. Be patient. If there are any complaints, the support staff always listens, AND forwards those complaints on to their superiors. This is how Customer service is usually improved upon for future transactions with the public.

A clear line of communications is always needed between the consumer of a product, and the manufacturer of the product. Namely you and the Arenanet team.

Well, according to the Wiki, even the very first choice of a Home World is considered ‘transferring’ and enacts the 7-day cooldown. Though, I don’t know how or why you can choose a Home World with no character created.
