Appears when I hit ‘login’ from the launcher. In searching for similar posts or potential fixes, I’ve seen this pop up a few times, though I haven’t ever seen an actual fix or selection of potential fixes/solutions.

I did see one linking to a .NET framework update, which I tried but still nothing. Checked firewall. Not having any other ideas.

Has been happening for a few hours. Anyone else experiencing it, today?

it is still down for service it is the same code that has been there all night

Without having to send an email first?

Honeslty Im sick of having to log into my email to aunthenticate the game so I can log in. Mainly because I use Hotmail and sometimes the e-mail from anet takes ages to come through. Can’t I just click the game and go? Is there some way to do this in the settings?

If the servers are down for maintenance it kinda would have been nice to have been notified ahead of time. I’ve been working all week and was going to sit down today to do some serious GW2 gaming.

They did, six hours ago. In game it’s reported the message there included the word “unexpected”.

I’m worried because i’m not having the same error as other people. For me it says that my account name or password is invalid.
I didn’t play the game for 1 year and now because of that error i tried to re-enter the password…i don’t think i remember it. The awesome part is that i can always change my password but it requires the serial code that’s in my email (a digital copy) but i don’t have the email anymore…lucky me.

EDIT: Nevermind…i bought the key from Green Man Gaming and i can see the serial code in there. As i said 1 year has passed so i didn’t remember how or where my codes were and worked.

If you have a mobile phone you can use Google Authenticator… it’s a bit hard to set up, but then it’s way faster to log in.
I think you activate it by going to “My Account” → “Security”. I can’t remember and now that’s activated I can’t guide you through there.

Another thing you can do is check de box “Remember this network” when authenticating. So when you connect from the same network you will be authenticated automatically (but this means that if someone knows your e-mail and gw2 password, he will be able to log into your gw2 account from the same network you’re in!)

According to the 9th or 10th reply in that post, there was an in game message that said the servers will be going down for maintenance.

anyone know how much longer till servers might be up?

Also, there’s a way to save your IP settings from your account profile on the GW2 website so that you don’t have to authenticate each time.

Less than an hour.

I wonder how difficult it would’ve been for ANet to have that message on the client so people who weren’t online to see the message, like myself, wouldn’t be totally clueless. Thank god we have community forums.

It have been down for 2 hours as they said, but can we get a new timeline on when its ready again?

Actually, I just noticed that the very first page of the forums ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum ) has a little column on the right hand side, cleverly disguised by the word “announcements”. In this column is an intricately ciphered code that may have shed light on the situation even sooner had we decrypted it’s arcane meaning at the start.

I’ve received a random email about Authorizing a log-in attempt, from RU I believe it should be Russia, I wanted to log-in to see if there is anything wrong but I couldn’t and it showed me this message the ‘Guild wars2 has encountered an error’

Same here, no idea why…

I freaking Changed my password and reset my router then tried the -diag and -repair function. Then wouldn’t you know I checked the forums LAST like an idiot and found out it was down for maintenance Hope I didn’t jack up the game with my stupidity.

Yeah, I wasn’t online when the message that the game was going to be down went out. It seems that it was down and I can now login, you guys should now be fine.

You should remove that screenshot as displaying your log-in information publicly could be dangerous to your account security.
